As a beginner I prefer the Lions course but have played the Army and Surat Thani courses. The Lion course is closest for me.

Nong Khai is fairly quiet on weekdays.

As a generality for all the courses around Udon, most westerners will play Monday to Friday as the courses are fairly quiet; Wednesdays tend to be a bit busier as some Thai golfers take a midweek break to get another golf fix, but still relatively quiet.

Most of the Thai golfers play Saturdays & Sundays as they are working through the week; they will also play midweek when there is a public holiday, so keep an eye on those before arranging to play as Thailand has quite a few public holidays!

Lions Military (Note: Wing 23 is Thai Airforce not Army) seems to be the busiest of the courses, but it is the only golf course inside the ring road.

Judging by the response so far, not many of the western golfing fraternity are members of the forum or maybe they just don

The local Chinese businessmen keep asking me to play a round at Nong Khai but the back is not up to it at the moment.Sounds great an empty course after the nightmares in the UK.

I enjoy the the game but what I play would not be golf in the truest fashion it's a reason to walk off the booze and chase a little white ball. I base my choice of a courses on how well stocked the club house is and if they sell beverages on the course 8) I like to call it aiming juice or score improver

My favorite pass time, watching the grass grow where they hit a silly white ball around, as long as it comes with Bundaberg Rum
