New Fitness Center in Udon

Post by papaguido » May 13, 2008, 2:36 pm

Just got back from checking out Big City gym and I was very impressed. The following is my report:

I met with Steve, co-owner and he showed me around. He’s got just about everything, including free weights and a few machines he designed himself. Brand new equipment in a facility designed as a fitness center in mind. It reminds me of fitness centers back in the US (24 hr Fitness). All the machines are set up in “fitness stations” i.e. chest, legs, arms, cardio, etc. There’s even a small running track laid out around the property (14 times around=1K) and another that is not completed.

The facility includes a restaurant with healthy food in mind and reasonable prices. Lockers are available, free for day use or 100bt monthly. The lockers or kind of small (12x12 inches) are really only suitable for storage of keys, eye glasses or other small personal stuff you don’t want on your person while working out. There’s reasonable amount of parking out front just off the ring road. The only negative is there are no shower rooms. Toilets and wash basins only, but Steve stated that your welcome to a Thai style bath if you desire and there is enough room for in the head to accomplish the task.

No membership available, 100bt to join and 50bt for day use. There’s a form to fill out (passport info, address, etc) and 2 pictures 3x3mm are required for an ID (which is needed to sign in and use facility).

Big City is located approximately 3.8 K from Tahon/Khon Kaen intersection (Honda showroom) heading towards the airport on the ring road. It’s located on the right hand side in what (I thought) looks like to very large houses (also, it’s half a kilo past an intersection with flashing warning traffic signal.

Well now, there's a review, pictures and everything. It certainly does look
"big", the signs may be necessary just so one does not get lost. I guess
fitness is coming to Udon, this place looks really professional. No coyote
dancing girls? Is that really to much of a stretch to ask for?

The machines are less dangerous and I think that circuit style training may
be more healthy for you. With the free-weights, there always seems to be
some barbarian around loading machines up with hundred's of kg's of plates.
But yet they never unload them when finished...because...they're...so...big.

damn Rito, nong prajack, fitness club, will we reconize you at next meeting.

making me look bad. as if i need help. i can only mik this bad back/hip so long, you guys aint helping. tho i did fix my flat and rode about 20 kms on bike the other day, before going out and about. changed my mind about buying motorbike, pollution and dust is just too much for me. tuk tuk maybe. also had my first real bike accident, no injuries except pride, tho lucky i can't bounce back up like i used to, i would of thrown my bike at the bittch and took the bus home. she thought it was way too funny she made me crash, and she did it on purpose.

oh well, on topic, might have to do some exercising myself. saw the weight bag there, tho have to be empty for me to use that, unless you guys really want to laugh. 8)

Good membership concept. Many people are not here long enough at a time to commit for a year membership at some of the other places.

Rito, have you tried the food? I couldn't read the menu that well, but I thought I read something about pancakes. :D

No I haven't tried the food. I see banana cakes on the menu, I'll let you know tomorrow about the pancakes.

Been going for 2 weeks now and have only run into another member, it's great I can workout without any distractions.

Steve and his wife are both very nice people, and the sister who makes the shakes and food is always happy and smiling. The amount of detail and work that
Steve has put into this place is amazing. It is really a work of art and well worth going to have a look.

The amount if equipment available is huge. You can get a great work out here for sure. Some of the machines might be easier to use if they had cams. The only drawback that I see is there are no treadmills and the aerobic area is not fitted with really first class equipment like the rest of the gym.

All in all, it definitely is a good place to go, and I really hope that Steve has success here. love, swami

Aw ---- you found me out :D Actually, I never really had bad eating habits. It was the lack of exercise that did me in. Been going at it for almost 2 weeks now and lost 4 kilos.
