ideas of what to do and where in Udon for marry
I think I went to the same place as Paul. Charge for translation 500Bht, when I asked where ministry of foreign affairs was, they offered to get it certified for me, cost 500bht extra. plus 40bht for EMS postage. total 1,040 bht. Duly received it 3 days later in post everything done.
As I did my own affirmation, just had to pay British embassy standard fee, I think 320bht.Total cost 1,360bht.
A tip. While preparing affirmation, include proof of income, ie; pension and how much. Then this will do for subsequent yearly visa applications.
Marriage license 20 bht at amphur, and you've got yourself a new wife.

Hmmm - When I did my first 1yr extension at Udon immigration, I had enclosed a copy of my affirmation along with even the receipt from the Embassy for 'legalising' it.
Upon offering up the pile of documents to support my extension application - my affirmation was quite literally thrown back at me. All they seemed to want was the marriage certificate (copy).
Another thing: Due to time restraints (we did not anticipate the sluggishness in Bkk) We went to register the marriage (and get the certificate) in Bkk. On our first attempt they turned us away and said we need to provide an interpreter!!! - regardles that my wife (to be) is fluent in English.
On our return the following day having 'hired' the receptionist from the hotel - we then got told that it was close to lunchtime so they couldn't possibly deal with me. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
The hired receptionist told me to take a seat and to give her my wallet !
5 minutes later - we were invited over to begin signing the documents!!
seemed like lunch for the whole office was on me that day !
Incidentally - there was not one thing that required translating that couldn't have been done by my wife - so having a translator was a waste of time and money. And of course she had to be paid for her time too - I guess when you get so far down the path and the end is so close - you just do whatever it takes and whatever people ask just to get it over with.
I would certainly not like to do it alone - thats for sure.

I know they advertise their charges in English pounds on the board and convert it according to the rate of the day (and it was 6 years ago too)

I talked to my english friend this after, and he says he is not getting married in BKK, so therefore wife does not need to be there. He is just getting his paper work done, so that they can get married in Udon. (the embassy, translation, & ministry). I guess I do not see the difference. So Paul, it sounds like I should wish him luck!
TG had called the ministry a while back and they said it would take two days to get it done and the cost was 400 baht! But, if we paid 800 baht it could be done in one hour! About the same as buying lunch! Oh, they also told her she would need some papers from here in Udon, which she plans to get before we go, I don't have the foggest idea what they are!!

Translations
Dakoda, Jack says that we may have paid as much as 8,000 Baht. But this included all the nuisance fees required at each stage. All we did was first go to the Canadian Embassy and complete the English declaration form. I'd not been maried before, so provision of proof of divorce or a spousal death certificate didn't apply. It cost about $50 to have it notarized there at the Embassy. This was our first step.
With this form in hand, we then selected the translation office of choice on the short list--or maybe a cabbie did, since we were't familiar with the area. As the Embassy had instructed, the declaration form had to be translated into Thai by "professional translators," and they supplied the listing of whom they considered to qualify.
And the translator took over from there after we accepted her offer to run every ensuing stage on our behalf!
Because Jack has two sons, part of the paperwork she had to get from Udon apparently included something relating to "Investigation on Right of Guardianship of Children," and also an "Interrogation of Petitioner Who Requests for Investigation of Right and Power of Guardianship of Children (Not Effecting Marriage Registration)" and "Interrogation of Witness In the Case of Requesting for Investigation of Right and Power of Guardianship of Juveniles (Not Effecting Mariage Registration)." All of these are dated May 30/2005 (the date of marriage). We have several copies of each, all certified as correct translations.
There is also another doccument dated December 24/2001 relating to a petition from Jack acting on behalf of herself and in the stead of her minor children to have the last names of the latter changed to hers--apparently they had borne the father's name, even though he and Jack never married.
Another document was a petition serving as Jack's birth certifcate in which it was declared that the original was lost and the "counterfoil thereof kept by the District Authority was also damaged and could not be used for verification." Dated March 25/2004, Jack has two witnesses signing in affirmation.
There is also a House Registration: "This Document is an evidence of the Authority as prepared under the law governing people registration and it is given to the head of the house for safekeeping. This Head of the Household shall have the duties under the law." Essentially, the requirement is for the Household Head to report new-borns, resident deaths, or change in residents (i.e., reporting of when a resident moves, or another new one moives in). It seems that there is a 1,000 Baht fine for failure to comply with doing these things! I have two copies of this several-page document that identifies Jack's change of family name to mine.
So all of these documents, including the birth certificates for the boys and the final marriage certification for Jack and I, amounted to a fair bit of paperwork at the end of it all. So I don't really begrudge the final tally charged of us.

Figured mine and the offer of 9k baht, would have been fine, except I would not get to go to Bangkok. I figure the whole trip will be in the 20k baht range. Since I have been in Thailand, have only spent 4 days in Bangkok, and most of that was spent computer shopping. In the past a stop in Bangkok was a min 15 days. Like the time I call to say I missed my flight to nam, and they made the mistake of asking me when I would like to reschedule!
My paper work should be simple and the american embassy only charges $30 USD or 1240 baht or $36 CD! I just asked TG and her paperwork has to do with family, father dead, house etc. I would think that the only thing being translated is my documents! So I am thinking will be able to turn over everything, and for little baht have them finish it all and mail to us. So that the remainder of time (thinking 7 days) can be spent sight seeing from my list of places to see and things to do in Bangkok. Last time there spent 200 baht per short one. That break from the rain cost me 1500 baht!

Found Asia Books around 4 pm and while there down pour started. Asked for place to get beer, cabs were impossible, plus traffic was not moving!Care to expand a little ?????????
Closes place was Western Hotel, the name had western in it anyways. Ordered a heineken, what came was a small heineken, rain lasted, so I ended up having five, TG made up the difference with food. Lesson learned, check the price before ordering!
I guess we need to find you a job, Paul; beside the one you now have reading between the lines. I thought I was bad by having a beer or three at lunch time, while my neighbor's drank water, but then I read Garnet's comment about breakfest, reminded me of 40 years ago, when people would be woken up by a cold can of beer on the chest! At my age I will stick with the five short Heine's story!

Paul, not sure its a good idea to paint during the rainny season! But yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon was real nice out my way, part sunny and coolish! Was thinking today would be the same, maybe by afternoon!

Don't go there with the painting saga !
Suffice to say its almost finished and it was by no means a quick job.
I so want to get it finished I once went out painting in the rain - although the bit I was painting was sheltered.
By the way - anyone know what this topic was supposed to be about ? LOL
