Are There Too Many Farangs in Udon?
When the U.S. service people show-up for their annual exercises, they usually
do go off and perform a variety of community projects. For the most part, they
are really polite young men and women who try to maintain a good image here.
You can't get away from some of these misbehaving people, they are everywhere
in Thailand, they're loud and obnoxious or aggressively drunk or approaching every girl they come across as if she is staff in a bar and it does form impressions.
Well, the only point I was thinking about was whether there was some small charitable cause or mission that people from the local group of farangs could
contribute time to because I don't see any other way to affect local sentiment.

More on the night market meetings/gathering can be followed up here and usually someone will post a reminder near the end of the month:Steve3 wrote:You'll even let people come and have a look? I don't even have a problem with people that would like to come and have a look as long as they don't damage the farang image or act like millionaires for the short time they are here. The reality is this is a different world than a normal tourist destination. Anyone that visits should respect that. Of course my opinion is worth what you paid for it.
To be honest some of you come off as looking like grouchy ol' farts, but I really must take in one of the Night Market meetings just to dis-spell that image. I'm sure you are much nicer in person. Is there a regularly scheduled meeting and location, or just an impromptu sort of arrangement?
We've been to the Night Market a few times but since teelack and I aren't big drinkers we haven't wandered back to the area around the big screen to investigate.

Tonight is kind of an impromptu gathering and anyone is welcome. I myself will be there along with my family, so it's just not about old/young farts sitting around drinking and being obnoxious
Actually the NM meetings have never had any obnoxious behavior that I have noticed. Some loud laughter at moments, but nothing offensive!Other than beer drinking,I think we have been good examples to the community!
I have seen some falang drunks stagger through and maybe they are asociated with us by some Thais,I don't know! Not much we can do about that though!

with these 2 together, unfortunately, we would never know the true answer, as my answers about farangs and Thaïs would be bias, as to the farangs and Thaïs I know. do Thaïs read the forum, IWould be interesting to hear if the local Thai community feel there's too many falang in Udon..
Are there any Thais that read these posts?

Won't be back in town for a couple weeks, but the first Saturday of the month should be perfect.
Teelack could use some new friends that will be a good influence on her.**
