SOLAR ENERGY

Post by lumpuk » June 4, 2008, 7:31 pm

There is a company called ThaiGerman Solar which is in, I think, Khao Suan Kwang which is 11 kms north of Nam Phong.
As you pass through the village on the A2 going south it is about the last building on the right side over the duel carriageway. They have a sign up so you cannot miss.

Thanks I've seen it, have threatned for years to stop, might be time to do just that.

It was interesting on the other Site I found in Korat they have a basic system that runs one airconditioner TV and five lights. That would be a big help in our household. But the is no mention of costs and a said not distrubuted in Thailand.

I found a comparable system in the states the cost was $12,000 But that would be with a 50% tax rebate. Plus any excess power is sold back to the grid which may lower actual operating costs. With rates in the states under that formula, it wouldn't take long to recover your costs.

That cost is installed labor costs are much higher in he states, so I would assume cost would be lower here.

Thanks for your input

bump, im sorry to say that i think solar powered anything in thailand is going to be a non starter because of cost. i looked at solar powered hot water system in global house at 79,000 plus instalation, and as much as i wanna be green, i could not justify the cost. maybe in a few years when the solar panels become cheaper but not now. so as weve just started building, im trying to make the house as cool as posible, with the materials used and the direction the house faces. i also think the wind turbine thing is a non starter here, it just would not be practical.

I have an electricity bill of 10000 Baht plus each month therefore I am very interested in solar power to try and save money.

When I built the house I installed a high quality Australia made Solar Hart hot water system. It has worked flawlessly with out the need for any electric heating during cloud or over cast periods. So my monthly electricity bill

I contacted a number of solar energy companies to discuss the installation of a solar power system.
One company sent 3 representatives to my home and evaluated the demand and the system I would require.
To power the many items in my house, 2 large fridges, 4 x water pumps, swimming pool pump, 3 TV

This is supposedly a manufactor in Korat, they don't have a distributor here, but if you have a installer and can purcahse without the import tax may bring the costs down considerably.

The biggest manufactors are in China and are way beyond anyone else.

Hot water here if you have a metal tank above ground you get a lot of that free. That would be such a small precentage of usage in our house, showers only two people, twice a day. I only use the water heater in the winter.

Could you please list your contacts I would like to talk to them, my needs are much lower then yours.

Solar power here is exceedingly expensive, for a country that has sun daily or enough to power solar panels it is a travesty. However I know that betwwen here and Nog Khai ther is a new solar power farm however rather than make the panel 8-10 feet above ground thereby allowing cattle to graze thay have put the panel about 3-54 feet above gorund needing a man with fossil fuel to trim the grass..
It is only experimental but it a move, Thailnd is realising that solar power is needed but as with all things, people with the money do not care, peole without it need it, but cannot afford it. Impasse.
Hopefully over the next few years Solar panel prices will come down and installation costs minimal making it more economical to install. selling excess back to the power people I should thenk will not be in their thoughts at all.

solar will get cheaper in time, especially as oil costs increase

it takes many years to recoup your original outlay and start saving ,so until the costs of materials falls to parity with your existing outlay its really not worth it . but time is running out with escalating fuel costs so they had better get a moveon with new techs.
or buy a horse and cart
