Should we eat more fish?

Post by Naam Jai » June 16, 2008, 11:17 am

Does it improve brain function?
Would that make any difference to living here?
Make for a better community?
Solve our behavioural problems?
Improve learning difficulties?
Improve the diet?
Encourage more breast feeding?
Get smarter?
Have a greater regard for Eskimos?
Treat depression?
And other obsessive compulsive disorders?

Yes of course!

Would contributors consider increasing their intake of sardines, salmon, makerel and fresh tuna?

Accordingly intelligence must be inherited not acquired then?
But I will take your comment as a compliment.
Others might be more cynical, or at least suspicious.

They won't like it but three seconds later they'll forget what you asked so it won't matter anyway...

Naam Jai,
Q 1 to 5, Ans. Not correct.
Q 6 Yes it does.
Q 7 to 11, Ans Not correct.

Have always been a fan of sardines, salmon, tuna and mackerel. A lot of myths were around for fish, but have been disproven over time.

Ron, I dont know where you got the Idea that Red meat is bad for you. All the latest studies show that Red meat at least twice a week is very beneficial, with the fat trimmed off of course. Enjoying the skin of a Chicken is probably o.k. as long as its not every day. And Omega 3 fish oils are definitely good for your heart and your Brain function as well as preventing hardening of the Arteries. Just remember what your Parents always told you...." everything in moderation "

Q1 to 5. I am no scholar but will try and explain in Laymen's terms.
Q1. It was a myth that fish improves brain function. Any healthy type food will do this for you. You could eat if possible 5 kg of fish a day and your brain function will not alter. However the essential fatty oils, omega's found in fish improves your blood, bad fatty buildup and of course blood goes through the brain, cleaning it out a bit also.

Q2 to 5. Living here, better community, behavoural problems, learning difficulties is no. Eating fish would not alter those requirements.

Red meat is good for you in moderation. Yes cut away the excess fat and do not cook in oil. It contains iron, essential for the body, especially healthy for women. When you donate blood, they supply you with iron tablets for a quick fix because you would not be able to eat enough red meat in a short amount of time to replace the donated blood. You may have seen here in Thailand, women eating a lot of liver in their foods. Having said that, I never cut away the fat off a T bone or sirloin when doing a bbq, best part of the steak for me.

Also the chicken skin, its just fat, not much good for you, but love it also.

Wizard
Spoilsport.

Q1, IS understood to improve childrens immediate and long term response to questions. Reduce the onset of Alzheimers disease and joint arthritic conditions, among other things. You can buy Fish Oils Capsules at the better pharmacies here. What we had as Cod Liver Oil as younsters during and after the war. Natural Omega 3 nutients as 12%EPA and 8% DHA.
Q2 - 10 are written with tongue in cheek, because if eating fish or fish oil capsules improves, one of the comedians who post here, as suggested, I will be more than delighted. Of course Q2 - Q10 do have a relevance. Just check it out on a search engine before shooting from the hip.
This thread is about fish, feel free to start one on the pro's and con's of red meat.

Naam Jai,
I was asked something by a poster re the red meat and answered it in a short reply. How about you checking out the original poster regarding the red meat and direct that last sentence to that poster.

And I maybe able to find on a search engine myths/fallacies which have proven to be only that. Your turn, back to you.

It is a great pity that so many things are given medical credence largely because of medical experiments which are of dubious reference to human beings.
One years "fad" is next years danger & visa versa.
Couple of actual cases of this in the UK....
1. Eggs are good/bad for you depending on which year you are in.
2. Fish - cure for everything one year, serious danger of mercury poisoning the next.

Is just about the best advice anyone is likely to get on the internet- for diet or life. :D :D

Doctors will tell you everything in moderation, you can occasionaly excess one or two times, however more than that can lead to problems.
Excesses of the flesh are an exception though
