Spam Spam and more Spam
Spam Spam and more Spam
Every day I go into my mail, and if I have 30 messages at least 20 of them are Spam. Most of them are Canadian Pharmacies or American sites for erectile disfunction ( how did they find out ) or ads from India for Viagra etc. I've never even visited any of these sites but still get bombarded with emails. Is there anything I can do ???

Yes, I understand how you feel,Aardvark wrote:Every day I go into my mail, and if I have 30 messages at least 20 of them are Spam. What I've done, is mark each one as Spam, without opening them, and that seems to be working, I'm getting less each day
Which e-mail service are you with Aadvark??
Most have settings that can identify some e-mails & stick them straight in a junk or bulk folder & then automatically deleted after a set period of time....only downside to this is that you have to keep an eye on what mails are going in there as it can divert some that you do want to see. You can then "approve" these senders so that they will come into your in box in the future...

Bob, I have McAfee Antivirus which actually marks each one as Spam but have not found a way to quarantine them. Maybe a good idea to go through it all again and see if I can do what you suggest. Thank you :DBobHelm wrote:Which e-mail service are you with Aadvark??

Aardvark, I'm using gmail (from Google) and it automatically removes all my spam... I didn't even have to set it up. It does it on its own but I did find one email in the spam folder that I really wanted to receive so I only had to click on it as 'not spam' and that's all it took.
When I look into the spam folder it contains nearly everything you mentioned initially and the program automatically dumps anything over 30 days old so the folder doesn't get too full.
Oh, did I mention, gmail is free and you also get about 6 Gig of free storage space so you don't have to worry about deleting your email every few days (especially if you've been away for a while).

You might want to pass your email through Google's Gmail. You can get a Gmail address and just use the web interface, or use a POP client such as Entourage to download email.
I have my email (which includes the "catch-all" for my domain) forwarded to Gmail, and then Gmail forwards it back to my POP host. Google cleans over 1,000 emails per day from my inbox, leaving only a half dozen or so that I have to manually discard. I think that's pretty good (105:1)! I am sure they could reduce your spas substantially.
If you use an email program such as Entourage or Outlook/Outlook Express, another thing you can do is make sure that the spam filter is turned on.
Or get an unlisted email address and don't tell anybody about it (I have some very rarely used email addresses, and they do not receive spam.)

Always same old ----.Selling Viagra, free ipod, sex video free(its not!)Or a begging letter from Nigeria wanting to share millions of dollars from some non existent deceased person left a legacy!

Open any of the spam mail and you have triggered a new lot.I have a new daughter to be inlaw and she decided to make contact with me!
So,I was checking my junk mail to make sure I didn't miss something I might want, and I see,''HELLO'',sender ''Ola''.It was a name I had never heard before,so I didn't open it because similiar types revealed porn sites!
I got an email from my daughter later that mentioned her brothers new fiancee ''Ola''!Sure enough,it was her!
Later on when I contacted her,I explained why I didn't answer! She laughed and said ,''well I used to work in a strip joint'',but now I am in Narcotics Anonymous with your son''!Both recoverying dopers for 14 years!

You get most spam because your internet activity is being tracked and that info is sold to spammers.
If you want to get rid of them you need to hide your IP so that they can't track you. After awhile the spam will drop off.
Stan's right about opening and/or responding to spam. Particularly if there is an option to unsubscribe. If you clink of that all it does is tell them its a valid email address and you are moved to a more valuable list to be sold to other spammers.

I use a small software program called Proxomitron. It does many things. One of which is hiding your IP.
There are many other programs that do so. Some are free, others have a fee. I suggest visiting http://www.auditmypc.com/
