Marmite soldiers

Does anyone know if Marmite is available in maybe Pattaya or Bangkok?

It is, I understand, available in BKK TC, however I bring in my own supplies.

Just like Worcester Sauce, there does seem to a Thai Equivalent; I could get the details of these if you are desperate for some Marmite on your soldiers. Or bring in supplies at cost on my next home run.

Of course this will probably become a Marmite/Vegemite debate

Mum's bringing my mate marmite over with her, 2 kingsize jars full, Mmmmmm!

I've never seen it on sale over here, however you can get Vegemite at the international supermarket in Pattaya.

Is vegimite the same as marmite ????
Doe's it contain yeast extract and vegetable extract and also 100% vegetarien just like marmite contains ?

Seriously. Beer Monkey, yes. Its a classic Forum/BB/Chatroom Aussie/Limey debate, usually very entertaining. But to my rough palate, its virtually indistinguishable.

Marmite is better of course

Well i will stick to marmite also, and there's nothing like opening a new jar and being the first to stick the knife in, the same go's for a fresh jar of peanut butter, try marmite and peanut butter together on toast the creamy and crunchyness coupled with the twang of marmite on warm toast.

I just pity those that 'hate it', they really dont know what they're missing.

I think I have tried the NZ Marmite (www.marmite.co.nz) that can be bought in Carrefour (maybe other places), it was pretty good for a replica

I suffer "Marmite withdrawal symptoms" very badly. I was force fed Marmite soldiers since I was a baby and am a complete addict. Once during a very bleak period I tried an inferior substitute but it didn't help, I had to use DHL to send a jar over.

I am not returning to England until late summer so if your "home run" is before then please let me know.

Only hearsay, but if you get really desperate I understand Tesco Lotus stores in BKK carry stocks for the more discriminating palate.

Yes, they must tried to fool you with Vegemite.....I know...to the more discerning even in a blind taste test, its not the same. The real Marmite is also a mossie deterrent I am led to understand...although whether it needs to be applied internally or externally eludes me as yet.

At least 2 home runs on the cards before summer, do you need the minor addicts version or the full monty?

If TC won't mind changing topic only slightly is BOVRIL any thing like vegimite and marmite, i believe it was non vegetarian up until a couple of years ago,and is spreadable and can also make a hot drink,don't think i've seen that in Thailand either. In some branches of TOPS there is a Marks and spensor section perhaps that is the place to go.

Nothing more tasty than two poached eggs on toast with a thin scrape of vegemite on the toast and then the eggs.

Vegemite is made from yeast leftovers from the beer brewing process so how could that be bad????

Not to impose the "minor addicts" size would suffice. Please let me know your travel dates. If those dates are not public send me "pm"(I guess that means private message) Sounds clandestine the importation of Marmite

Yes very clandestine, I hope not to get the rubber glove treatment if I sneak some past for the addicts.

My agenda flexes TC, I work in the UK (simple economics being not yet of retirement age) for myself, so go back and forth as the IT industry demands, and as the Thai end demands (just kidding..

)

I will be in Thailand for sure in April (tickets already sorted) for 8 weeks and probably can fix a 3 week visit in February.

A small jar??? Disappointed! Not a true believer I see.

I was just being polite....ok then the 500g jar... and and and ok we wont mention catering size.

Apart from the true British "banger" with my breakfast (Sean, help! help!) instead of the bland hot dog things that seem to be all that is available (nope, the german things in Nong Kai do not hit the spot) this is all I miss from a food point of view.

9 years of patient training, and I get 2 tiny Thai eggs, Square "ham", the hot dog things, bacon thats mainly fat,....and bland bread smeared with tasteless jam for my breakfast every day. My "treat" as they sit down to Som Tam, bits of meat, i guess pork but I cannot identify it, sticky rice etc in the morning!

72 and a half???????? I will try not to take offence! Only a middle ager, that having hooked a woman who is the "same same" on the inside, all over the world, despairs a bit at the we and them posts.

Rant over....maybe better posted in Pauls thread. Marmite, easily delivered TC

Is that the mental picture you had of yorkman, TC, I don't know what any of the members look like on this forum, but can only make a mental picture, other people must do the same i'm sure, it's human nature i suppose.
