A few more like that and the driving license pays for itself.

I came across a new dual priced place yesterday. In Nong Khai they have the place with all the large statues called Sala Keo Ku (not sure of spelling). I have been there several times in the past six months and it was the same price for everybody. I thought it was 10 baht per person but my wife says it was 20 per person. Yesterday we take some friends there and they have large new signs stating in english foreigners 20 baht and in thai stating Thais 10 baht. Additionally, they state Lao people 20 baht as well. It is not much money to worry about and is and excellant place to visit if you have not seen it but I was just surprised to see the new signs.

How can they tell Lao and the local Issan people apart.
They ask everyone, except whitey to show their passport? :?

They can tell when you speak. Lao is not the same as Issan, despite what some farangs might say. The locals can tell the difference when they speak.

I plan to take my Lao GF there tomorrow (who speaks very good Thai, but not Issan) , so will see what they charge for whom.

Take heart, after a couple of visits, you get all the photos of Sala Keo Ku that you can imagine. After that, its only escorting friends.

They can stuff it.

Went there this morning with GF and daughter, 40 baht in total - 20 baht for me and 10 for her and 10 for her daughter. There were clear signs in English 20 baht for foreigner and Laos people, and then written in Thai 10 baht for Thai people.

20bt seems reasonable to me. However 400bt to enter a national park on Koh Chang really gets my back up, especially when the Thai price is 20 baht and written in Thai language only. :(

Went to the Sala Keo Kou place today, must say its very impressive, was going to as the daft bat how old it was but didnt want 'it velly velly old' crap, dual price i do disagree with but at 20 baht it isnt that bad, maybe they should charge double for Thai's ignorance of thier cultural history.

I can understand a gov't site charging more for foreign tourists versus the residents since the gov't sites are sudsidized by the Thai resident tax base. What I can't fathom is the double pricing for any resident including falangs. To me,it is a racist policy and shows the true heart of the Nation for all those that actually believe that Thais in general have a warm friendly heart behind those beaming smiles! ](*,)

The site in NK ia private site and until last year, the entry price was a 10 baht donation for anyone!I wonder what changed?

1 entry price for all..., no tourist price, no farang price, no expat showing a DL price...just 1 price and thats it.

I was discussing this with my GF, and she tries to explain it away that farangs have more money. So I countered that with - well rich Hi-So Thais in Bangkok have more money, - do they pay more? v Do taxis and tuk tuk drivers ask how rich Thais are before deciding what to charge etc. What if were born of Thai parents in Europe. Do you pay more, etc, etc

My dictionary describes translates:-
racism - lat-ti-yiat-piu
racist - kon-tii-yiat-piu

I wonder how they would feel if we said "kon-tii-yiat-piu" to them each time we encountered dual pricing?

I know what you are saying but..
I Shouldn't think they would feel anything, just 'smile' and say...."up to you" or "mai pen rai" springs to mind.. ](*,)
