I will answer a bit more now Stan. As for my "get out of town", statement has to do with with the security question.

Both candidates are using the "fear" card. This is pathetic. Neither one has any insight into this. However they put up some of the things in place and say they will improve them. More money being spent foolishly. so far they have spent millions, whoops I meant BILLIONS on the homeland security dept. It has grown by leaps and bound. Then you also have to factor in the increase spending for the FBI and CIA for a lot of the same things. Then factor in all the money sent to states and cities and this grows exponentially. Are we anymore secure? Now they want to grow these.

A few examples. TSA who inspects people and handbags at airports. There are some good folks but most have a govt job, feel they have a little power and try to show how incompetent they are. There are violations daily and every time the GSA or a TV channel want to prove this they take things through. It really is a joke. About a month ago, I went through and they found a tube of toothpaste in my carryon. Needless to say I have been taking the same size toothpaste through and have been flying at least twice a month for the last year. This great find could not be shown to just me, this genius officer had to give me a lecture for about a minute (being very loud) and when she finished with me she walked up and down the lines telling folks this is the stuff they are looking for and the folks that carry them. When she finished I did ask her if she thought she was making everyone safe with her dumb find and did it make her feel good doing her show. Her fine reply "was I looking to get arrested. I said no and just walked off. By the way still fly and carry the same size toothpaste and haven't been stopped. Even saw her once and wanted to rub it in but felt it might be better to walk off.

Another one of my peeves on this is airports that have one to four flights a day. Yep we have fully trained staffs full time to catch all the potential terrorist. I truely feel that you could train the local police dept (and help cost in more ways than one) to screen these people and bags. You are talking about 10 people for these types of airports for the 4 hours of work a day. They are full time employees. What a waste of resources.

Now bringing it down to the local level. Every Podunk town has increased their police force to fight terror with the help of a lot of fed grants. They go out and buy equipment and hire more law enforcement personnel just to use this stuff that never gets used except for drill. Sure larger cities need to equipped but these little town doing the same as the big boys is a joke. You would be surprised how traffic enforcement has risen to help pay these folks they now hired they do not need. Gotta help pay for their toys that they want to buy and give the folks here something to do. This even applies to larger cities. The other day I was driving thru Houston and they had 8 radar set up in a 10 mile stretch of road. Again gotta pay for folks and junk bought.

This go on and on. The answer from the candidates, throw more money into it. How stupid. Did the terrorist win, I think so. From listening to McCain and Obama, I need to improve security. Most things done are never risk rated. Just done because it sounds good.

Asking me if it is internal or external terrorist, it is both. Is our govt doing much real good? Yes!!! However they waste so much money for little return and to honest if someone wants to kill themselves to prove something, it is truly easy. Ask David McVeigh!!!!!

I could go on but you get the point. Tell me how you will tame this beast that has been created, risk rank to get priorities, use smart ideas and weapons and then I will be happy to listen. I do not live in fear of my neighbor as a lot of folks, however that is another rant to do with the dreaded word "FEAR".

FEAR

I think you're very accurate with that point, banpaeng -- if not for America's 'War on Terrorism,' the dollar would be in a far better position. The limitless outlays for all of the U.S.'s enterprises at home and abroad have probably resulted in a fiscal crisis that may well achieve ruin.

Bleak stuff.

I recently came across this in an E-mail by a guy named Gary North -- I won't copy his comments, apart from quoting his own headline to the article he wanted people to see: THE MOST FEARFUL SPEECH I HAVE EVER READ.

I'm not familiar with the 'speach-maker,' nor most of what he refers to; but it's just about impossible to feel cheerful once you get into this piece from late May entitled "Storms on the Horizon:"

I understand your complaints banpaeng!I think many people are p1ssed off at the inconveniences of increased security checks, especially when seemingly done by incompetent and/or power tripping personel!

I believe there is legitimet and realistic fear involving individual terrorists desire to commit Jihad on against American and her interests and inconveniences are part of the security package whether competently applied or not.I admit that I am puzzled at the lack of more attacks and I guess it has to do more with profiling than anything else!Of course to profile,we must cause more cayaus and inconvenience,so we look politically correct!

I think many of the ''horrible''political incorrect things we have done in combination has helped immensely in our personal security, like wiretaps and rendition,Gitmo etc.!
I agree the gov't wastes alot of money and at times the return seems small, but 9/11's cost much more money and more than inconvenience in personal lives.War has always been wasteful because you have to act in a manner that covers most contingencies!

Unfortunately, what has to be done is being done!We are attacking them on many fronts, spending big bucks because a defensive shell is not sufficient as you have pointed out with the toothpaste!Smart weapons are not enough, real military minds with experience is needed both for defense and offense without consideration to politics and vote getting.Rumsfield is a prime example of attempting to do things surgically, politically and with lack of military experience!

Unfortunately, many people are apathetic until personally attacked, then they worry alot less about costs. As long as the threat can be diminished, they can't conceive the need for extreme precautions! They can't recognize things like ,more personel died in combat in one day at places like Guadalcanal, than died in 7 years of fighting in the ME!They don't or choose not to recognize that with individual WMDs a single terrorist with no concern for his/her life can kill millions at a time!

I feel that prudent fear of this possibility is better than succumbing to the fear that we can't prevent it,therefore living in a form of denial, while hoping it ain't so!And as individuals we have no choice but to rely on our gov't!

Personally,I don't want to see intellectual liberal theorists in charge of our gov't during these times!Whether McCain is worth a ---- or not,I don't know, but he is the lesser of two evils as I see it! :D

Am not trying to piss you off but I totally disagree with you.

I am not in denial. It is just a fact that as long as we live in fear we will vote for a person to do things right. Relying on a govt to take care of you is nothing but fear of the unknown. Sure spend more money.

I to am horrified by sept 11 and hope it never happens again. Hopeing will not prevent it. We need a strong counterintelligence to suppress this threat. Homeland security is not the one to do this. Leave it to the experts in the CIA.

As for the military, they are good at what they do and that is fighting wars. I doubt Rumsfeld could fight his way out of a wet paper bag. AS far as fighting terrorism, I would say the military is not the one to use.

Voting for the one that is less evil is something I have done many times. Lets see what are we really saying? We are voting for an evil. This time they are both to evil for me to vote for either and I feel sad about that. However I have said one needs to respect themselves before others will.

I do respect them for being humans (I think :D ) but past there both have whored themselves out so much it is just terrible.

This is IMHO a very sad election for the US.

Oh well it could be worse. Maybe it would or could have been you against me! We could then have a lot of laughs out of that one. :D In saying that I bet neither one of us would ***** out to win. :D

I forgot, you missed my point on TSA at the airports. That is a good thing. They need to do it properly. It can be done right. Not just a half ass job. I'm not sure how to accomplish this. These are govt employees and basically you can't get rid of the laggards. Oh well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Garnet, the speech maker, Richard Fisher, is one of the "rotating" members of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) which he sits on this year then every third year thereafter until he leaves office - the Chairman of the FOMC is Ben Bernanke and this is the committee that determines (most famously) the Fed interest rate.

I can't verify the figures that he quotes but, given his position, they will be pretty accurate and represent a clear and present danger.

They help to demonstrate just how utterly wasteful and irresponsible the combination of the tax cuts and increased spending of the last few years has been.

US forum members (apart from any wearing blinkers) have clearly seen how the USD has fallen as the budget deficit has increased markedly over the last few years.

Unfortunately neither of the main Presidential candidates has yet got anywhere near addressing the demographic time bomb that has just started to go off; currently both of their programs are just so much hot air as there is no money left for next year just another record deficit.

 I don't feel any animosity at all from you or towards you.I really appreciate these types of dialog!
You don't totally disagree with me,noir I with you, which is really irrelevant because we are only stating our opinions, ideas, perceptions and experience!

I worked 13 years for a state hospital and know full well the incompetence, laziness and political actions and inactions that take place!Getting people to do things right means having good administration and leadership.Unfortunately, without profit motive, getting Gov't employees to perform is near impossible as it is a cover each others butts situation.
It has been a longtime.pre 9/11 since I visited the states, but as I remember, most of the personel working in the ''security'' parts of the airports seemed to be immigrants from other countries with relative low salaries, probably interchangable with the janitorial crew! :(

I agree with you about this being a sad election choice! And I agree about the majority probably being ''*****'',so how does one choose but to accept the lesser of two evils!
When there is strong opposition,in order to accomplish anything, compromise must be administered, otherwise gridlock ensues and nothing is done!

I think my statement of pissing one off was a bit ofer the top. I am saying more of your second paragraph.

I still say we need to do one thing that an old man told me long ago. If a politician does not retire with years of service, then get a rope. Think that sentiment is proper to get the houses and pres to do things for the people and not to all the varied special interest groups. Middle America would make a comeback.

Have a good day and will be back on again another day.

sadly it all about money the conservatives want to pay very little and the liberals want to give the store away so we get incompetent employees either way and affirmative action does not work when
security is as stake only qualified people should be hired not some azz kisser because he is politically active in some party or nepotism is another problem. Banpaeng on the tooth paste issue
amazing how some one with little power can get out of control I would have told her don't lecture me I have socks older than you. that might have set her back a little LOL

Most of us have done the same - it's especially easy with politicians as the corrupt few are far more noticeable than the hard workers.

I've certainly made the occasional remark about them which has not exactly been complimentary

Stan believe we are at war with Islamic extremism and I support a type of ''martial law''that temporarily suspends many of our ''rights''in order to protect those rights and our Nation!I have more fear of The present danger from outside than I do of one from ''inside'' our gov't
Ron believes if we give up those rights to secure freedom we have neither so as for the Patriot act dump it as for investigating American citizens get a court order.
Now we invaded a country (Iraq) because GWB wanted to invade it there was no link from Iraq or saddam to 9/11 no WMD no meeting for plutonian rods no meeting with al queada but Saddam threatened his daddy when he was President so we went to war because of a idiot and 3000+ american lives were lost untold Iraq citizens (women & Children) killed for what a IDIOT and he is a bible thumper Jesus Christ is his hero I would love to know what Jesus Christ thinks of GWB

sadly there more people who know the soap opera stars than there own Senator or Congressman/women
these same people will go to the polls and vote and have no idea about the person
Now I will confess I was not sure who I want in the w/h but after today my support go behind John McCain
my reason are very simple I think he is the most qualified man for the Job Now I said I was not voting
and I will not vote but like LA said it makes no difference because of the electoral college so my vote will be casted in AZ John won AZ before any one voted so why bother. now some people will think as a white man I am voting against Barack because he is black that I would take offense to since I made my decision on what I heard in the both convention and they assured me that John will not & I repeat will NOT pick up the mantel of GWB and that was my concern about John as for Barack he has no idea what to do about the price of gas at the pump and he said he will not drill that concern me as for taxes he will NOT raise taxes which he was accused of I also want to say he is a much better man than GWB is and I will be very happy to see GWB gone so if Barack get elected the country will still be better off than the last 8 years of Bush

Try this for size.

A man died and went to heaven. As he stood in front of St. Peter at the Pearly Gates, he saw a huge wall of clocks behind him. He asked, "What are all those clocks?"
St. Peter answered, "Those are Lie-Clocks. Everyone on Earth has a Lie-Clock. Every time you lie the hands on your clock will move."
"Oh," said the man, "whose clock is that?"
"That's Mother Teresa's. The hands have never moved, indicating that she never told a lie." "Incredible," said the man. "And whose clock is that one?"
St. Peter responded, "That's Abraham Lincoln's clock. The hands have moved twice, telling us that Abe told only two lies in his entire life."
"Where's Bush's clock?" asked the man.
"Bush's clock is in Jesus' office. He's using it as a ceiling fan."
