Irish I would rather be called a expat then a falong I detest that label if my understanding is correct it comes from the locals calling the French that name since they tried to occupy and take control over S/E Asia namely Lao / Vietnam / maybe Cambodia

Ron I too hate the fahlang label... I have brought it up elsewhere and was blown out of the water ha ha ha. It is a big bone of contention. Just a little gripe I have.

IA, see you opened a can of worms on your link.

Light blue touch paper and stand back. Interesting topic that needs to be spoken about.

What is in a name, for the locals an indication that you are not a Thai person..OK
for us some see it as a slur, some do not care.for me as long as it is not derogatory I don't give a damn..............

With a couple of posters here. Farang to me is not derogatory and I do not care, just a name and I'm thin skinned. Now we hope the officials gather up the rest of the twats and no-gooders that are here on an extended free for all.

Funny how most Thai's use the term really, its aimed at the fairer skin 'visitors' and not Asian ones, but they(mostly women) want to be fairer/whiter skin...just like a farang, because it is more Beautiful...lol

how about splitting the topic starting with Irish Alans post, been covered before but always good talking points.
