Inappropiate Comments
I saw the last post about max's gold or lack thereof and saw to my dismay a comment which stated
The police will probably be behind it
Now we have said it before and I will reiterate for those who think I am senile or stupid or both, and I am sure someone will say that anyway
Thai's do read this site and comments that infer that the Police or any govt organisation is corrupt or in anyway criminal could lead to the postee or wven the owner subject to unwarranted intrusion.
While we enjoy the freedom of speech, lets us be aware that it is not a right as in so many countries we live in , but granted and in some cases grudgingly.
So pleae be aware, I am full aware of the postees status for that post, and may Isay he is playing a dangerous game.
While we may think it is funny, some reaers may not for ulterior otives and the Police most definitely will not think it is funny.
please be careful. Thai humour is not the same as ours.
Just for info

I'd like to put my two cents worth in on this one.
Living in Udon for 6 years and nowhere else in Thailand, yet having met and enjoyed the occasional gathering's with police from around all of Thailand. I find them to be spot on in their attempt to assist we Farangs in time of need, and or, simply being courteous and pleasant upon meeting them in the street, always ready to return a smile.
Of course, a decent attitude towards them helps allot.
I believe we are so fortunate here in Udon, this is really easy living here fella's, possibly one of the nicest places in Thailand.
And, apparently better than even our own home countries, we're here, and most of us are very happy being here, aren't we, I am, with my wonderful wife Sawitta?
I say three cheers for the Udon Police. That's my stand.

With all do respect I do not share the above poster views. which i will gladly express at the N/M get together
as for being better than home country I disagree with that statement just look at the rules of law towards expats
and you will understand why I disagree. If the USA tried that the ACLU would be all over them AMEN

I have no problems with the local or provincial police. They have always treated me with respect and courtesy and handled their business in a professional manner.
Re: Inappropiate Comments
You're right Guns, it's probably not the most sensible thing to say about the cops. However, I don't think the powers that be will get upset about it, I reckon they have more important things to do (if you get my drift).Guns482 wrote:I saw the last post about max's gold or lack thereof and saw to my dismay a comment which stated

Could you please briefly tell us which laws are different towards expats from your experiences and not just hearsay. Visa, property ownership, immigration, and banking laws possibly would not affect Thai's, so I do not wish you to elaborate on those matters. they are expat problems alone.aznyron wrote:" just look at the rules of law towards expats".
Just jot them down in point form, that will be OK and we may be able to discuss them.

I don't like being told how much money I have to deposit in in thailand every month I don't like reporting to immigration every 3 months I don't like having to go to immigration to open a bank account or buy a motor bike or car Now you can tell me if I don't like it I have the right to leave & yes I do but I have a thai wife and as soon as I can get her out of thailand the happier I will be I am trying to convince her to move to VIETNAM were expats are WELCOMED and you answered your own questioncryptic wrote:Could you please briefly tell us which laws are different towards expats from your experiences and not just hearsay. I totally agree with you! ANS.Farangs here treated like doggies. This no good, that no good. Go fetch this ,go fetch that.
Having my time again, I would have retired to another country.Where They welcome Farangs.
But I have spent all my savings here now.Too late.No choice "go with the flow!" With so many stipulations for a visa here, I feel insecure staying here.It is a worry to think things can get worse!(:boost up the 800,000 baht to 100,000 baht!) ect. to qualify!
Just greed! All about money!Only rich people wanted here!

Re: Inappropiate Comments
aznyron,
I did politely ask you which laws you are not happy with and yet you just come up with the immigration bit, we all know about these laws. Get used to it, its their country and we must/should comply with them. You say about home back in the US, dont they have immigration laws that outsiders must comply with, you possibly would be one of the first to jump up and down if they did not comply.
My question was other laws, not pertaining to immigration, that you have trouble with. Maybe if you could ask them here, we could assist you in your problems. If all you have to complain about and express those views at the NM and on this forum is the immigration, you may be right in moving to another country. Wish you well in Vietnam, they also have laws.
Just because we come from the US, it does not give us any right to mock immigration laws of another country in that country. Discussion on immigration laws is fine, taking the discussion to a derogatory level is not good, Thai's do listen to us lambasting their country and would be or could be offended.

I really don't care what your opinion is of me i did not mock Thailand in fact I did not enter the question I only replied and I was kind enough to keep it private and not post my real opinion which is not very favorable I also want to say USA comes first in my heart and Thailand is far from second place and I will NOT reply to you on this issue it is ended for me
Re: Inappropiate Comments
The American Indians know all to well what happens when immigration laws are ignored;o)
Re: Inappropiate Comments
Well aznyron,
maybe just as well you do not post your unfavourable opinions about Thailand here, I think it would be inappropriate judging by your comments to date. You do sound like a bitter and twisted man with aggressiveness towards Thailand. There are things called aeroplanes that can move relieve you of your Thailand problem and carry you to perhaps Vietnam or back to our own country.

Re: Inappropiate Comments
Its not laws so much, that govern wether you have to get messed around at immigration, buying a car etc etc its attitude...i think aznyron has a valid point but i think its attitude towards us farang... we tend to use our own countries ways and expect them to be the same everywhere!!!! in my country if a shop sold goods at one price to white people but upped the price for non whites... i can 100% guarantee the shopkeeper would be prosecuted, go to jail if persisted and the business would be closed and the owner branded for life as a racist pig!!!!!!! Its quite acceptable even commendable here to be a racist, and charge farang more etc.... The worry is that its acceptable in this society...but really it is racism,.. mortiboy had a road accident which was totally not his fault!!!! Wrong !!!! Again racism... If this happened in uk every time a pakistani had a road accident that wasnt his fault, can u imagine that maybe the public would start to call the police racist??? The laws may even protect us farang here but the reality is the farang pays.. Full Stop....cryptic wrote:aznyron,

After that quick flaming ..... I take it that you are using the new forum and have put Ron in your Foes listcryptic wrote:Well aznyron,

Re: Inappropiate Comments
I fgeel that somehow the meaning fi the original post has been misunderstood, it is not what laws they have that upset us, there are many which I am sure needle us from time to time and rankle us monthly or yearly or whatever.
it is the injudicious use of this forum to post unfavourable comments against a particular arm of the Thai government, we all know that the Immigration Law sucks but it was made with for a reason as with other laws Thai's have made for a reason, the fact thet the reason is unfathomable is neither here nor there.Saying things about the law is not in itself attacking them, just the written law, BUT pinting a finger and implying that they are corrupt and seek to do us down is another matter alltogether.
The paot was made to just simply advise for what it is worth, that they do look and on occasions act on what they read, and judging by their new rules on internet usage in any place that offers internet access except for the home then I would say they look at a lot, as for home based comments, you can easily be singled out .
The electronic age is wonderful but it can be also be a millstone around freedom of speech.
Please be careful that is all i was saying [-o< [-o<

It is really necessary to read the complete topic because there are many 'ifs & buts' so I can't supply a definitive quote of the changes...

Guns, your OP was probably misunderstood because you didn't read it before you pressed the submit button. A quick sanity check (forgive the irony) and spell check before posting ensures that you get the meaning of your post across to your readers.Guns482 wrote:I fgeel that somehow the meaning fi the original post has been misunderstood,

i cant say i ever had a problem with the Local Boys In Brown, my only run-in with them was when i got a ticket for not wearing a Helmet, which i was at Fault
but i often bad mouth the Cop's from my home Country, i think most people do complain about Cop's Everywhere, not that they mean Malice, its just part of the Human Culture

Ok I am slightly eccentric not insane, but I do hope y'all get the point, I use some american parlance in order that everyone understands.Guns, your OP was probably misunderstood because you didn't read it before you pressed the submit button.
freedom is not a right here rather grudgingly given providing you do not cross the line.
it is the positioning of that line which is difficult to determine, hence caution is reccomnended.
