Reckons Pompey are a bogey side for Utd.

I thought their bogey team was Middlesbrough, or was it West Ham, or with Incey in charge maybe it will be Blackburn or Keanie at Sunderland ..... mmmmmm starting to look pretty bleak for their title aspirations this year isn't it

Yes,Portsmouth have been a bogey side for the Reds over the last few seasons. We drew there last time but lost the previous two years ,I think. Also Portsmouth knocked us out of the FA Cup last season.
Looking forward to the next two away games that should be a bit easier,Chelsea and Liverpool !
But the attack without Ronaldo and Tevez looks blunt. Also Rooney looks a shadow of the player he was a season or two back.Need to sign another forward pretty quick.....Berbatov or Henry ?
Look at last season. We beat Newcastle 6-0 but could only draw this time round. For someone like statto the excitement of that result must be like a
huge lottery win in the UK !
Lets see how many posts he does once the season has settled down and the "Messiah" has guided them to there customary position of about 15th in the table, probably below Sunderland and Middlesborough 8)

nibble ..... nibble ......nibble ....... did I just feel that rod twitch?

Always happy to add my two - penneth to any footie threads.

For info though, "The Messiah" as you refer to him, or Mighty Mouse as I prefer,
has NEVER guided Newcastle to anything like 15th

1992/93 Promotion as championship champions (old div 2)
1993/4 3rd in top flight
1994/5 6th in top flight
1995/6 2nd in top flight
1996/7 2nd in top flight Resigned early 1997 (after club was floated on stock market) but Kenny Dalgleish who took over used KK's players for the rest of the season before completely dismantleing ONE of the most entertaining sides to ever play in the Premiership :(

Afraid your just going to have to put up with me and my posts ALL SEASON even if we end up stone cold last

Good on you Statt my son. Once upon a time KK was my hero... My father bought me a life size poster of him and I still have it in my mother's attic ha ha ha.

Oh ya all have me thinking now... Maybe I'll leave Sol in place this weekend. If he shuts out United I owe Ralph a beer... :D

statto,
Man Uniteds first three results last season...

Reading H 0-0
Portsmouth A 1-1
Man City A 0-1

So a similar result for Newcastle as Reading who ended up being relegated 8)
Actually Keegan did a good job in his first stint as manager and Newcastle were a very entertaining team. But they say you should never go back.....

Of course, after that poor start United only managed to win the Premier League and Champions League last season :D

Irish Alan, not heard from you for a while, thought maybe Immigration had caught up with you at long last.Yes,certainly a title winning performance from Liverpool against Sunderland.Without Gerrard and Torres youd be mid table mediocrity but I think you know that already.

Make the most of the next few weeks whilst United get over their injury crisis.Once everyone is available youll soon find out who the best team is!
Once the heavy pitches start we'll see how the Chelsea Pensioners cope.
Terry and Lampard certainly gave world class performances for England midweek
Inter Milan have had a lucky escape !

Q) What's the difference between a Man Utd/Chelsea fan and a West Ham/Newcastle (or many others) fan?

Man Utd/Chelsea fans would prefer to see their team "going through the motions" and getting a 1 - 0 win, where as a Newcastle/West Ham fan would prefer to see the team lose 4 - 3 having been entertained, and knowing that the players wearing the shirt have given their best.

That is why KK is so highly regarded on Tyneside, he will never be a "World class" or even outstanding manager like Ferguson, Moaninio, or Scolari, but he gives the fans what they want for their money ........ entertainment, and after all that is (was) what football is all about.
It is probably because of KK's return that Steve McMahon and the "Profitable Group" want to tie up a deal to promote Newcastle in S.E Asia. They know they are on to a good thing as 90% of worldwide footie "fans" (and that includes many in UK), have no REAL team, and transfer their support to whoever is doing well at the time.

I have to agree that if Torres/Gerrard get long term injuries Liverpool will be a mediocre mid table team. That said, If Ronaldo comes back in October and gets injured again (like Michael Owen last year ....... and the year before  ) then Man Utd will struggle to be anything more than a "Mediocre mid table" team.

Berbatov looked every bit a Man Utd player last weekend, sulking on the bench, and then completely dissinterested with the game when he came on for the last 20 odd mins......... he should fit in very well at Old Trafford

ok, so I've used up half of next weeks two penneth, so I'd better shut me trap now b4 I stick me foot too far in :D

Man Utd beat Newcastle 6-0 and 5-1 last year.

Think you might be on a loser when arguing the entertainment factor Statto. :D

Yes,statto,I see that Newcastle are at home to one of the relegation favourites,Bolton, this weekend so anything less than a convincing win and you might be in for some stick :D

I dont necessarily agree that Chelsea and Man U fans are happy with dour 1-0 victories. For the last two seasons Chelsea have had their fair share of these results but were there fans happy with it ? Thats why Scolari has been brought in to get results with entertaining football.
And as for Man U they probably play the most attractive football in the league.Only Arsenal,on their day,can match them.
Do you remember when Dave Sexton was manager of United (late 70's ?)
They won their last seven games without conceding a goal and finished second in the league.Sexton got the chop at the end of the season because his team didnt play exciting enough football for the fans.

In the Premiership only the teams at the bottom would be happy to grind out 1-0 victories for survival purposes.

Well Galee's team are still out on top. This football management thing is hard on the nerves. I didn't think Stoke would do Villa (sorry Baz) and put in Ameobi and left out Delap. Ameobi didn't play a single sodding minute (   ) whereas Delap had 2 assists and scored 8 points.

Anyone know where I can get a flat cap and a sheepskin coat?

Thats nothing IA..i picked Drogba and played him for 2 weeks...then realized he is a bit of a lame Duck at the moment and not worth a toss so binned him for a star man, when you start studying the team players and do a little homework and settle into the workings of it ,it is very enjoyable, can't wait till next games to see what happens.

Used to play it in work 10-12 years ago. It was pen and paper then... :D This computerised lark is a good 'un. Click in click out... Adds a nice dimension to the league. Means I'll jump higher if Torres or Keane scores... :D Also need our Shay Given to keep his sheets clean... :D

I made one or two bad team selections last week that cost me points. Stoke and Pompey mucked me up big time.

Not too confident about this coming week. Would be nice to nominate a captain that made some points for once.

Quote I believe the league should now be considered complete

You stole my idea for the future! - but the likelihood of myself reaching No 1 is pretty remote. You didn't mention a prize? Perhaps a circuit of Udin in an open-topped tuk tuk?

Incidentally, perhaps the managers should agree whether to post on this site or Fantasy Football forum. Possibly the latter now (where I've just posted something), as most comments would be about players, team performance etc. What do others think?
