Utorrent?

Post by Bear » October 7, 2008, 10:00 am

Another dumb question for you guys. Im currently downloading a movie with Utorrent. My question is do I need any type of media player to view the movie? With music I downloaded I just right click on the music and select open and it plays back the music, same with movie or not? Thanks in advance.....

When Istarted downloading movies, if I remember rightly after the download there appeared on my screen a message telling me I would need to download VLC to watch the movie. Its free and should only take a few minutes to download.

Dave, First you will need the software to download the movies etc. Try utorrent or bittorrent, much the same. Once you have installed it have a look at sites such a http://www.mininova.org or http://thepiratebay.org/ where you actually obtain the movies.
All free. :D
Its a bit of trial and error to begin with but if you need a hand, phone or pm me.

If it's helpful, I've recently downloaded and installed VLC Media Player, (upon the recommendation of one of the Forum's Computer experts) which plays many different media formats.

As Roy said mininova and piratebay are both excellent! Being over in Saudi Arabia I use them both on a daily basis. Especially now as all the new fall TV shows are starting up in the US and some in the UK as well. A lot of times with the movies it's important to read peoples comments as some of them are fake and some require a password which at times can be a SUPER pain in the butt!! Also Nero is a pretty good program to convert them to DVD so that you can watch them on almost all DVD players. And if anyone needs any help you can pm me too. Also, on mininova, in the "search" box if you type in "Thai" you see there are a lot of Thai movies there too which is good for the wife and me too as some even have English subtitles. :D :D

As ergman said it is very very important to read the comments, it can stop you wasting hours downloading virus riddled, password locked BS.
Its also a good tip that if a movie has just come out at the cinema, it will inevitably appear very quickly online but is sure to be a copy made by some guy sitting in the back row with a camcorder hidden in his coat. If your thing is watching blurred pictures with muffled sound while a guy walks past the screen for his popcorn, go ahead and download it, if not don't bother.
Wait for the dvd, dvdx rips to appear and get decent quality.

you can get cheap dvd players that play divx files (ie .avi). then you can burn up to 7 movies on a dvd and watch them.

I have downloaded loads of videos, but when I copy to dvd says " no format" (NERO) only success I have is to convert video from either avi or mpeg to dvd. Also i think some blank Cd's are faulty.as when I replace another in the recorder it works.
