Do you guys not think that all the talk of beer and hookers attracts people to the forum and Udon?No vicar is going to come up here as it sounds like the place is full of muggers, drunk farang and thousands or tarts. :D Everyone knows it goes on but why advertise. It's not allowed on other forums.Just a thought. :)

Thats fair comment Coot IMHO, but the question is, where do you draw the line between providing information, free speech and censorship?

Some will inevitably step over the line; the supposed anonymity of the internet just makes it worse.

 Perhaps Arjay has the right idea, it's actually a bit nearer the mark as to the reality

IMHO The majority of this forum contains decent, helpful and above board topics/posts. There will of course, as on most other websites, be postings about muggings and the happenings after dark, but as long as it doesn't break the forum rules then we will not edit, delete or move it.

Yes, very succinctly put Coot.

Maybe we should all give a little more thought as to the content of our postings, and not make the place sound like something it isn't.

Lee, what about switching the webcams from the bars and installing them in the local flower shops, (joke) and maybe one where these attacks are happening!!

I asked my uncle in-law (lives in Udon) and got directions to Robinson my Thai needs a lot more practice obviously.

Cobra Gold is when Udon gets swamped with American GI's.

Not a good time to be in Udon. Best if you can avoid those weeks in early May IMHO.

Can't see the Udon Forum being a contribution to the happenings in Udon of late,as the mindless, shameful, brainless, sad, desperate, lacking in something hooligans probably would'nt know how to turn on a PC let alone press the correct keys.

Beware unless the forum rules have changed you are treading on dangerous ground. I brought this subject (red squares on map)up in another post and was threatened with deletions and warnings from the moderator.

There again being a moderator is like being a premiership referee.

No matter what you do or how hard you try to be fair, all the crowd at some point in time is going to chant "the referee is a w*nker"

A good parallel TC, except its half the crowd, the lot where the ref's "by the rules" decision goes against them

[quote="TC"]back on docs topic

Sad times eh!

I hate to say it but you could almost see the writing on the wall.

Unfortunately Udon is becoming popular with an undesirable farang element, which will be a magnet for the Thai equivalent.

Going are the days when you can go out late of an evening and have a few beers, watch the footy and have a reasonable conversation with professional expatriates, retired or still active. Its getting to the stage where you could get a

I just typed in "girls Udon" and "prostitutes Udon" into google and it's Stickman's site that is right at the top.Enough said i think. If you type in plain Udon you get Udonmap with general info.

I am not for censorship, but you cannot moan if the boys from Pattaya turn up after the talk of Udon being full of young cheap girls from Laos.

Well thats amazing, three pages of responses in 2 days.I suppose its all a natural progression. I personally lived in Pattaya in 1977, saw the way it was going and moved to Kanchanaburi where I lived for 7 years, that changed but not going the sex way but the back packer way, hordes of people trying to live on 30baht a day as was advised in a certain backpackers bible, the natives reaction to farangs changed dramactically, time to move on. Here I am in Udon, but this time took care to locate myself well away from the Urban centre not to be unduly affected by future developements. In town we seem to be going the way of both my previous places of residency. On one hand we have the influx of Khi Noks, those who want the undoubted pleasures of living in Thailand, but don't want to pay big bucks for them, and on the other the ones who are constantly looking for younger, fresher talent, as mentioned in another subject forum. This again is changing the perception of us by the locals, even the so called normal decent people amongst us.The final part of the equation is of course, where the people go, crime , corruption and rip offs will follow. The answer?Time to move on guys, but where to and how long before the cycle starts again.Who knows? :?:

:yikes:
Val, What was Pattaya like in the 70's?

How would you define a Farang Kee Nok that is now moving into Udon?

How has the locals perception of us in your eyes, changed for the worse?

I hope it won't change too much for the worse 8-[
Overwise we might have to trade our houses for RV's and move around Thailand fleeing the skirt chasers and kee noks :D

I've been having those very same thoughts, BUT where to move on to is the big question, I have yet to find the answer to. :?

Its interesting to see that members who have been here for a long time thing Udon is getting worse . I only arrived in October and so far have seen nothing that makes me think Udon is not a place where I would want to be . Before I came here I read a great deal on this forum and thankfully got a lot of information from it. I looked at the bits about nightlife etc and I think what came across was very much , this is not bangkok , which was what helped me with my decision having never been here before. I think we tend to be in bed most night by 9 ten so maybe we just miss it all but I would say Udon on the whole is a well mannered and great place to live. We live near the centre whcih oddly I would"nt change ,the access to everything is great and in the main I find trouble free.
An undersirable elemant of faring arriving ?? Yes I think I understand the point, but surely that only makes up part of the face of a city . Look at soho in England . Park lane. etc. As any city grows then it seems to get this element and undersirables flock to these places , the answer I guess is well you dont have to go there. Maybe if I start going out later and start to see it then I will be suggesting to g/f we move to her village. That will cause trouble she likes the city. oh dear. Do villages have tiger girls ? I think I might miss the scenary of the city .
