I follow the THB vs USD and a fluctuation of .10 is average, I dont think you can assume this news changed the baht to make it stronger.

The Samak deal and related political problems made the THB weaker vs the USD

Sometimes creating tensions with another foreign power, is a way of diverting the peoples attention away from the turmoil within that country. Could this be one of those occasions? :| :|

The article states that the Cambodia Prime Minister is threatening to wage war with Thailand unless it withdraws its troops (81 in total) from the Veal Intry area near the Preah Vihear Temple.
The Thailand foreign minister said no troops would be withdrawn until the dispute of ownership of this area between Thailand & Cambodia had been resolved.
It would appear that if there is any "sabre rattling" it is coming from the Cambodian side, rather than from Thailand..

Kris, this is nothing to do with "General Topics on Udon Thani", which is where you posted it.

Was it meant to be a news item, though I don't see any quote from a news source, just another Forum.

Was it meant to be in the Open Forum or a Debate/Discussion topic?

I'll move it to the "General Debates & Discussions Forum".

Or they were, here's a report from the BBC this lunchtime.

Source: BBC

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-p ... 668657.stm

Thai and Cambodian troops exchanging small arms fire resulting in casualties.

Warning: BBC reports might be too left wing for some US citizens.

i researched last night to post something, that from memory, i was actually correct. but it would not of been complimentary to thailand's position on the matter, so i refrained. especially since the 'thai police' thread disappeared ??????? so figued why bother, it wouldn't last long.

but the short version, the International World Court awarded that temple to Cambodia 46 years ago and all was peaceful and thailand has probably made more money from it that cambodia. but since they are now done building an access from the cambodian side and it is now a 'world heritage' site, baht signs and of course the universal domestic distractions by uniting everyone to some other cause other than domestic problems which abound.....(that sounds familiar).

simply google the temple name, and international court, and you get more than you need to form an opinion. you'll get wiki, whick i like and you actually get the world court desicion and everything else you can imagine, plus a bunch of negatives toward our host for even considering their present course of action.

Thanks for that research LA, and the sources you mentioned. Quite enlightening.

Maybe it's a tactic that some countries try and deal with internal strife, unrest and bickering, by getting into some external activity that they hope will stir up a more united nationalism within their country and deflect attention from domestic matters. :? Look at Argentina in 1982 for example. It didn't work though.
