Are Fly's Smart?
Are Fly's Smart?
It strange, when fly's are swirling around and you pick up a fly swatter, they all immediately disappear.

Re: Are Fly's Smart?
I did in fact do an amazing story on flies, they have the ability to lean the way they are going to jump a millisecond before they jump, with their 360 degree eyes, they can see and react quicker than most.
The ability to swat a fly, is knowing which way they ate going to move to avoid the swatter and then hit where they are going NOT where they are, but you have the same time span as them to make your decision. A millisecond.
This is documented fact and means that if we do in fact hit a fly we are very lucky.

My ridgeback catches flies on the fly with her narrow snout and eats them. =D>
Try the 10 baht place in the parking lot outside of Tesco's, we bought a couple of them there before we got the ridgeback.RLTrader wrote:been looking for a couple of fly swatter's for years. since the topic is flies they are the filthiest insect on the face of the earth next to sewer roaches
I use to buy coconut cake in the day market until I saw all the flies on the cake and no one bothered to chase them so now I no longer eat the cake which is good for me do not need the extra calories

It must of been good cake....as hundreds of flies can't be wrong...can they.?
Yes the flies in markets do put me off, and the Mrs always says i shouldn't eat the meat but i must say i never had a stomach problem through it, but did draw the line once when stopping off at the Pig man on the nong khai road to get a BBQ baby piggy, pulled up opened the window inquired about the one on display then he 'turned' it over and what must of been over 730 flies came out from the under side of the bbq pig....needless to say i said thanks but no thanks, never had one since just buy the uncooked ones and do it myself.
yes and i have seen dogs catch the flies too..lol.

Hi,
Animal Planet had a program on flies the other month, The basics said that flies see and register a lot quicker than humans, if you try to swat a fly, even if this take only a fraction of a second, to the fly it seems seems like 3 seconds or more, this is how they can get out of your way.
Cheers Doug.

Re: Are Fly's Smart?
Easy to train a fly to receive the "swat of death".
1). Move fly-swatter very slowly toward fly. He will haul ass.
2). When he comes back repeat #1.
3) After moving the fly-swatter slowly a few times you have "educated" the fly into believing
the fly-swatter is a slow-moving object and nothing to be feared.
4) Smash his ass full speed.......the fly was educated beyond his intelligence....kind of like
Phil Gramm........

Re: Are Fly's Smart?
Yup they do...the ones that Tesco see for 199 baht certainly kill the mozzies and flies, anything bigger they just bounce off the metal strings.
If its flies of jinkjocks or however you spell it use elastic bands and aim for them, after a few goes you will become an excelent shot, get the kids involved for whole family fun
