Re: FARANG SOCIAL CLUB UDON
forgive me if i appear stupid , but was not the original idea to have a club for members and bona fide guests only ? how is that going to happen useing an existing bar , which by its nature is a public place ? and i agree with stan , what your proposing now is nothing more than a periodic social gathering similar to the night market meetings. sorry guys but the idea was good in principal , if thats your thing , but aint never going to happen in udon .Khun Paul wrote:Ok freddythe hound has some sound points and I for one agree a polace where we can go is a wonderful idea, but in poattaya unless I am mistaken they use a hotel or part of one to hold meetings.
What is the difference to utilising a bar with the owners consent, not the same as meetings in night market, but a large bar, ( sort of like harleys )the owner and staff are advised that we are there to meet not to partake in the attractions ( good they may be though).
When the place becomes to small for our needs we can then decide on our next course of action.
If as freddy says we are selling beer then we will need a licence and all that stuff, or the thai mafia and /or Police will soon jump on us.
If we are really serious about this, amybe someone would approach some bar owners and put the idea to them preferably someone with food as well makes it easier.
be positive but not silly, one step at a time is best.

I think its the same old story, farangs do not stick together, unlike other migrants that imigrate to your countries and do well, because they do work as a team ![Brick wall ](*,)](./images/smilies/eusa_wall.gif)

Re: FARANG SOCIAL CLUB UDON
I don't think you are NOT comparing apples to apples here Fredy. Most of the falangs in Udon are retired or will be shortly. Most are independent souls or they would not be making this trek to Udon anyway, where as most immigrants to United States, Europe or Australia are making the trek young and trying to do better for themselves.fredythehound wrote:I think its the same old story, farangs do not stick together, unlike other migrants that imigrate to your countries and do well, because they do work as a team
The immigrants have a need and a reason to gather with the like of themselves for company as well as social events and work groups.
The immigrants to Udon have been there done that and moved on. They enjoy each others company but are willing to let it be on their schedule and not a regular thing. When the monthly gathering started it was discussed of the frequency. The times drifted between one week to quarterly. It was actually debated a bit if a month was to often.
Again I wish you luck but just do not see it happening in Udon. There are a group of guys meeting daily at the mall. Maybe go join them and see what happens or join the golf league as they seem to get together regularly. I am sure there are others.

Re: FARANG SOCIAL CLUB UDON
Personally , I would like to meet some of the guys on this website , It would be in interesting to meet the likes of bob helm, beer monkey , and westerby, judging by my posts ( 20 x cider's and a 'slight ' right wing attitude ) I doubt that would be tenable , Is there any regular bar you drink in? I have 1x week in Udon Thani before my stay with the in - laws
, (I shall not be armed bottles and and bricks ) - probably a Tom Sharpe novel,

Hmm, it's not often I see my name linked with interesting. I always thought that my Thai Outlaws called me Steve Davis (pronounced Sateep Dayvit) because my first name is Steve but recently I've come to the conclusion that it's because I like to discuss the more mundane things in life (anyone up for discussing the merits of systems engineering methodology?).konstabel els wrote:Personally , I would like to meet some of the guys on this website , It would be in interesting to meet the likes of bob helm, beer monkey , and westerby,

Must be time for bed, is my cocoa ready, Mummy?
Moving back on topic, you'd need a committee to run a Social Club and adhere all the guff related to constitutions etc. Are you chaps really up for all that? Remember that some of you have come to LOS to escape all that mind numbing Farang bureaucracy.

Re: FARANG SOCIAL CLUB UDON
i notice committee, and membership puts lot of people off, idea of committee is to share ideas, and relate to varied interests, rather than 1 person, which other venues have, and membership is purley to stop the type of people you would not enjoy in your company, from comming to the club.

Re: FARANG SOCIAL CLUB UDON
I agree Fredy, if you're going to have a 'club' you need 1. members (I came herre to retire and don't really feel the need to join any more groups), 2. a committee to organize things and determine projects (I can foresee a number of areas where this could lead to many disagreements) and 3. if you're going to have projects, you'll also need to pay for them which means 'dues' (now we need to have someone we can trust to take care of the funds and someone else we can trust to be the auditor). No, I can see this going downhill fast.

Re: FARANG SOCIAL CLUB UDON
good answer but one has to be a member before he can become a troublemaker
being opinated could label you as a trouble maker to some that why bylaws are written
& only when you violate a by law you get suspended after so many suspension or serous
infraction you then get expelled from the organization but one must remember you are not going to like or be liked by all the members so what does that leave you pick & choose only those you like and leave out the rest

Re: FARANG SOCIAL CLUB UDON
i think there's plenty of good people out there who have time on their hands to be one of the 5 on committee, and give them an added interest ,you never know may suit you to be one of them, personally i would be happy to help out,or be just as happy being a member of a club with sense of belonging, and maybe join in some of the activities, sports or social, and enjoy the chat and drink with other members.
Re: FARANG SOCIAL CLUB UDON
when you deal in alcoholic beverages you open the door for problems also like Pak said you need to have honest people in control of the funds i am sure 99% of us would qualify to hold the funds. I also know that some will use the club for a place to hang there hat which is not a problem and some will seldom show up but since many of the people I consider my friends will not join so it would be of no interest to me to be a memberfredythehound wrote:thats the good thing about membership, people who look for trouble, dont get in or have membership taken away,i,m sure some of you have seen some go round bars cant handle their drink, and start argument on innocent bystanders,i know i have.

you think i actually come to talk to you? i can't afford cable tv, and 15 baht an hour for unlimited beer, that beats the night market.

Re: FARANG SOCIAL CLUB UDON
1 person does not pick and choose, who losses their membership, you have a group saying on this,so less chance of being biased, and its got to be bad to have at least 5 people saying,a certain member is a problem to other members, hopefully it might not arise,i found in clubs i,ve belonged to in the past, never seen any trouble and not known anyone loose their membership,so maybe we are looking at the worst scenarioaznyron wrote:good answer but one has to be a member before he can become a troublemaker
