Re: English Premier League 2008-09
The FA took no action against Rooney for his badge kissing incident.
Is this because he is in the England team or maybe because he plays for United.
Would other players in the EPL get the same treatment?
I doubt it. :-"

Yes,seems like an amazing game! Two late goals gave Spurs a draw.Harry Redknapps magic working already.beer monkey wrote:Arsenal 4 Spurs 4...
An excellent and well deserved win for Stoke over Sunderland 1-0.Stoke up to 15th now.
Defeats for Bolton,at home to Everton and Wigan, away to Fulham, have sent them into the bottom 3.Bolton for the drop,I reckon.
Liverpool beat Portsmouth 1-0,Man Utd beat West Ham 2-0 and Aston Villa climbed into the top 4 beating Blackburn 3-2.
Chelsea had a comfortable win over their nearest rivals Hull City 3-0.
In the other match Middlesborough beat Man City 2-0....two very inconsistent teams.

Re: English Premier League 2008-09
Liverpool’s result last night was imho every bit as important as Sunday’s win over Chelsea. Liverpool have shown in the past they can beat any team in Europe BUT then they follow it up with drawing or getting beaten by teams in the bottom half of the league in games they are expected to win.
In September they beat Manchester United and one week later could only draw at home with Stoke City. (Sorry Baz.) Champions of yesteryear can grind out results and win ugly. The ability to not play at your best and still win is what makes champions.
Liverpool has now a put string of good results behind them beating Everton, Manchester City, PSV, Wigan, Chelsea and now Portsmouth. They may face a Tottenham side on Saturday going through a renaissance then host Athletico Madrid. If they have positive results in those two games they again have to show their mettle when they host West Brom at Anfield.
Significantly there are those that say Liverpool is all about 2 players namely Torres and Gerrard. Well Torres did not play against Chelsea nor did he play against Man. U and for a part Gerrard didn’t play against United either. To say they are about 2 players does not do justice to Jamie Carragher’s performance at the back. He is proving week in week out to be a Colossus in the heart of defence.
Once again Champions in the past could get goals from almost any player in the team. Phil Neal could get 10-15 goals per season; mostly penalties and Tommy Smith could score and so on throughout midfield. The only conscientious objector I can remember was Joey Jones. On to Man U in the 90’s and Bruce and Pallister could score from set pieces, Denis Irwin’s free kicks and penalties and I seem to remember Andrei Kanchelskis getting 15 goals in a season and he played out wide on the right, the same with Arsenal and Chelsea in recent years.
Liverpool needs just that. Torres has to be allowed an injury or an off day and one of the supporting cast has to do his bit and chip in with a goal. On Sunday Xabi Alonso did just that. It is time for Robbie Keane, Pennant, Benayoun, Babel, Kuyt, Agger and Mascherano to move beyond being provider and find the net. Then Liverpool will have the ingredients of a Premiership winning team.

Kissing in the wind

Seeing Joey Barton bashing his chest like a neatly-shaved ape on Tuesday night made me aware of one thing that's getting me really riled about footie players these days.
All this badge-kissing is pretty hard to swallow, isn't it, from a bunch of well-moneyed no-marks who show as much loyalty to the cause as a tabloid-hogging-celebrity-one-night-stand bimbo.
If you're John Terry or Paul Scholes or Jamie Carragher or Ian Ashbee then maybe you've got a point. Trouble is, if you're a confirmed one-club man, you don't need to convince the fans - or yourself - that you're a faithful standard-bearer for your team.
Wayne Rooney kisses the Man Utd shirt badge
It's only them players who are a bit confused who seem to need to confirm their allegiance to whoever the hell is watching. Rooney at Everton was a case in point.
That 'Once a Blue Always a Blue' t-shirt will live with him forever, and frankly he could kiss the feet of Sir Bobby Charlton in an 'I Love Bestie' top whilst singing 'United, United!' and he'd still be a Toffee trying to escape his heritage.

Sean, you may be right.
Have a look at the latest odds for the top 4. Best get some money on. 7/2 could be a good bet, but the bookies normally know best.
Chelsea 5/4
Man Utd 12/5
Liverpool 7/2
Arsenal 12/1.

Re: English Premier League 2008-09
Liverpool, the team tipped by some to dominate the Premier League and Champions League this season lost to a late goal at Spurs and were replaced at the top by Chelsea who thrashed Sunderland 5-0.
Manchester United beat Hull City 4-3 in an exciting game with Ronaldo scoring a couple again.Fair play to Hull who seemed down and out at 4-1 for an excellent comeback.
stokiebaz,no doubt, nursing a bit of a hangover today after Stoke had a great 2-1 win over Arsenal.Stoke up to 12th in the table now.
Lets hope Arsenal continue in this rich vein of form for next Saturdays game against United
Elsewhere wins for Everton and Wigan who beat Portsmouth 2-1 away.Maybe difficult times ahead for Pompey ?
Middlesbro v West Ham and WBA v Blackburn both ended up as draws.
Bolton v Man City today and Newcastle v Villa tomorrow night......3am Tuesday morning Thai time

you are beiing to polite irish allan.i think what you are trying to say is"why didnt you keep your big mouth shut" ha,ha !
dont worry.just a very bad day.we could have been 3-0 up befor carraghers excellent headed equaliser and then them scoring in the last minute! words fail me.
but keep the faith irish rover.next weekend arsenal could beat the mancs and blackburn get a draw with chelsea.
weve got west brom at home so could well be clear at the top again.you will be able to go out in udon on a saturday night again without worrying you bump into rival fans.ha,ha!
be focused on the athletico madrid match.a win will all but put us into the next round.
to ba bob,one of the few good saturday nights in liverpool if you are an everton fan.watched the game in a local kirkby pub and a few bottles were thrown at the end and tables knocked over.
at least theres been no word from 747man and gozo, probably still in an alcohol induced coma ha,ha!

With 3 of the top 4 losing it just closes the field a little and makes things more interesting.
Everton scoring a few more goals would make me sleep a lot better. Time will tell and next weeks results could give more insight as long as Everton wins of course.
