Wow! For objectivity, I reckon this one:

is right up there with this one:

I have tried beer in 71 countries.
I stand by my opinion.
Since there is no objective yardstick my subjective opinion must suffice!

Good luck FB - can you please keep us informed of your hunt for the elusive Beer Lao Dark - it is indeed a good drop.

Darwinian - only 120 countries to go, in pursuit of your elusive quest for the world's best draught beer. Or perhaps your mind is already made up? Until then, your opinion remains subjective and cannot suffice - albeit you have a privileged position to report from. As above, please keep us informed as you further pursue the holy grail :guiness: :D :D

Oh Stan! What can I say? I wasn't criticising his opinion - only his objectivity. However, upon reflection, his statement is probably closer to the mark than yours :D

I have to say that my 'research' (records kept of over 2000 different beers in just over 2 years) would make me agree with Darwinian's statement, however that is only for "DRAUGHT" beers. When it comes to ALL beers, there is no doubt in my mind that there is only one nation that sits proudly at the top of the tree ......... BELGIUM. :guiness:

Why does the smilie never get a full pint .... :guiness: .... unlined glass should be filled to the brim

Main Entry: nec·tar
Pronunciation: \ˈnek-tər\
Function: noun
Etymology: Latin, from Greek nektar
Date: 1555

: the drink of the Greek and Roman gods
a beverage of fruit juice and pulp <apricot nectar>

a sweet liquid that is secreted by the nectaries of a plant and is the chief raw material of honey
— nec·tar·ous \-t(ə-)rəs\ adjective

mmmmmmmm I think this nectar stuff is getting to much positive press :-k :yikes:
I'll stick with the beer :D

Yes, I did specify draught beer.
I have to concur that Belgian bottled beer is the best stuff in bottles but I prefer the lack or gas in a good draught.
People who were brought up in less fortunate beer environments often continue to prefer the beer they were weaned on. Some of them later in life progress to enjoying better beers but many go thruugh life never having tasted a good beer. This is true of many Americans I have met. One can only offer such persons our deepest sympathy.
We are very fortunate to be living in an era when the variety and quality of beer has reached such heights,

It's Guinness so the top bit is the head. You like a little head don't you?

If you like German beer Aardvark, you will probably like beer Lao. The dark variety is my personal choice, but the "blonde" is not too bad, a bit less gas and more flavour than most. I find they both have a better flavour if you let them stand (warm) for a couple of minutes, as with most beers the colder they are, the less flavour.

Not if it means getting 10% less of the beer that I have paid for.

Without a doubt, the best Guiness that I have ever tasted was the bottle form from Nigeria. The barman managed to pour it so as it only had about 2mm of froth on the top, and it had a much more balanced, sweet taste, than the usual draught varieties available in Europe.

I don't know - while it's fun to slag Americans, if you exclude the mass market breweries I think that they've had the most innovative beer brewers of any country over the past 10 years.

Have to agree that there are several good micro's in the states, but they still have a long way to go to better the Belgian brewers. :guiness: fill the glass please sir!!

I don't think that they really need to better them, it's good enough that they compilment them. You can get your Chimay, Westvleteren, and Leffe from any good beer distrubutor in any of the 50 States, and Hoegaarden and Wife-Beater are now as common as tap water in the States, so there's no need to reinvent the wheel. While a few brewers in the States have been pretty successful domestically in selling clones of Belgian beers, what's interesting about the US craft beer industry is their originality and their new takes on old beers. "West Coast" IPA's, for instance, are great stuff an while they share the name of their British ancestor it's really an entirely new style (and a quite addictive one at that). Intersetingly, the Belgians have noticed a busininess opportunity in this and tried to take a stab at "American" IPA's too, primarily for the purpose of export to to the US, the most common one probably being a brew called Urthel Hop-It from Ruiselede. And on the east coast, there are some very distinctive pilsners, albeit ones that are a lot more hop heavy than your average German or Czech might prefer. And at the oppostite end of the sprectum, from across the States there's been a real renassiance in Russian Imperial Stouts - a "winter warmer" that probably wouldn't taste good at all in the climate here but really hits the spot after a day of skiing.
