Thank you, Mortiboy, for blaming the US for the atrocious behavior of a ruthless dictatorship... NOT! :fryingpan:

I think what he was trying to imply was, if there is major significant oil and gas reserves held by the Junta that a higher level of international attention would be given. Travel Sanctions imposed on the Junta's General's doesnt really hurt that much, as they just visit the countries that dont enforce them.

The US just like the Chinese are trying to establish secure long term suppliers for their demands.

China eg, in its support for Sudan and Iran.

One arguement for the invasion of Iraq was to establish secure supply of the oil and gas reserves they have.

They do have oil and gas, but China already owns most of the leases although I believe Chevron has some exploration going on. The only reason for the U.S. to go in there at the moment would be humanitarian grounds but I think they have enough on their plate at the moment, dont you 8)

Chevron's "facility fees " to operate there would be huge, after all the Junta ripped the UN off with the cyclone relief programme, by giving them an Exchange rate which was less than 10% off the market rate.

The UN admitted they failed to pick this up until later.
