Post by john2005 » July 13, 2005, 2:00 pm

Can anyone recommend a good place to stay in Nong Khai for friends visiting the Province?

I would have to recommend the Pantawee hotel:

http://hotel.pantawee.com/

Nice enough rooms and you even get a pc and dvd player in your room, just incase you need them .

I agree the Pantawee is a nice place. Clean, centre of town and has nice food. Paid 700baht for a room with Aircon, PC, TV.

Accomodation in Nong Khai

Post by StevieC » August 4, 2005, 9:16 pm

Greetings from not so sunny Scotland.
I agree, I have stayed in the Pantawee hotel Nong Khai many times. you can get a good room for about 450 Baht. Beware the restaurant though, from past experience, they are not very good at western food. The Thai food is ok. Beer is fairly cheap as well and it is open 24 hours. Not sure if that is a good thing or not.

was just up their checking out options, mutmee, pantawee, and prajak bungalows, just around the corner form pantawee, my bud went with prajack and i have to agree. larger, lighter room, 450 baht, cable, ac, actually 2 rooms, plus private bath w/hw. wise choice. on the 2 way street, just before you turn toward river to go to pantawee.

prajak sounds like good value for the money and in the centre of town too.

Somewhere decent like Prajak is a good thing as there was little competition in the past and so Mutmee saw no need to do a needed renovation or two.Still love Mutmee but needs some work doing and the lack of good alternatives may have made them lazy in the past.

I see there is a guest house that has been up for sale for some time in Nong Khai on the FBI real estate website.

Rent for next year paid?If the fixtures are half decent not too much to lose IF you have a good cook.

pantawee : flaming gay drunk and his trangendered owner

Pantawee has got a HIGLY obnoxious drunk manager (flamingly gay..not that would matter). I think he he is involved with the transgendered owner......depending on how you get along, your room rates vary...

Also, there is considerable night traffic at the hotel - and the staff makes sure they are marking up those services ...lots of real low life hanging out there...

The ADSL service is intermittent...no one knows anything, except a kid that somehow keeps it running. ADSL cables in the rooms are often defect...(I had to venture out and get my own cable).

The Pantawee is completely overpriced for what it is offering...I would stay away and use anyone of the almost free internet cafes that actually let you plug in your notebook computer for around 30 baht/hour...

My advice: stay away from the dump!

mumee - mosqito trap

Mutmee is scenic - no question. The food is actually not bad. However, even during the dry season it is a mosquito trap! They are cheap to the extent they are stingy with the coils!

The staff is trained to make sure to watch that you really only use 'one spon of coffee' and 'Harp', the waiter in a skirt - and painted inclipped toenails the size of your average chinese soup spoon doesnt make this place any more appealing. Too bad, the setting would be great.

Might still have a place for astrology-healing-arts-mediation crowd that appreciates the racist sign of not bringing in any female Thai nationals to the Mutmee...

Ok, enough said...

The last time someone started slagging all the hotels off in one town - it turned out that he had a vested interest in one of the others - funnily enough
I wonder if this is the case again -

Just wondering
