Internet Shop Closed

Post by Cliffb21001 » November 28, 2008, 2:20 pm

A couple of days ago my wife and I were watching the Udon Thani news. An Internet shop which had all their computers confiscated by the police, and was fined 500,000 baht. The reason, for having games on their computers that is distributed by a gaming software company out of Bangkok. There are certain games the Internet shops have to be licensed to have on their computers. The wife asked around today to find out who and what happened. There were 4 other Internet shops that were checked besides the one that was closed down. The Internet shop that was closed down and computers confiscated was located behind Udon Phit school. Because of the laws and regulations, another Internet shop can not be opened at that location. (no Internet shop can be opened within 100 meters of a Wat or School)

The police may have closed them, but the gaming distribution company is the one that did the raid. They usually sends someone around as a customer, checks the computer. If the customer see a game on it, he walks out and calls his partners. Next thing you know, police and gaming company at their door. Out goes the computers and a heavy stiff fine.

Another Internet shop was hit by the police........the story is, a teacher was trying to find students and attempted to enter the Internet shop. The person running the Internet shop, tried to keep the teacher out (very big mistake) while he tried to get the kids (under 18)to go up stairs. Looks as if the teacher knew what was going on and called the police, on with the raid. The Internet shop was on Srisuk Road. There will be a fine of 20K baht, if not more since he attempted to keep the teacher out. Business will be very slow for a few days because of the raid. Parents don't like it when their kids ended up down at the police station. I got the information from Home News last night, wife translated, so maybe some loss in the translation.

Perhaps your wife didn't mention the more salient point in the newscast. The police also discovered a room where the school kids were permitted to smoke.!!!!??Who knows what?

I know that in Bangkok they have some Internet shops, most likely not registered for business, have them living in the back of the shop. The smoking room for the kids doesn't surprise me one bit.
