Hi Jack, welcome to the forum.
I haven't heard of internet access in any of the hotel rooms in Udon Thani. The Charoensri Grand has internet access in the lobby but not in the rooms as of yet.
The Irish Clock has free wireless ADSL internet access throughout the building and the City Lodge has one computer with ADSL on the ground floor.

Pantawee - adsl
Pantawee has got a HIGLY obnoxious drunk manager (flamingly gay..not that would matter). I think he he is involved with the transgendered owner......depending on how you get along, your room rates vary...arjay wrote:The hotel in Nong Khai is the Pantawee, which has PC's in most rooms.
Also, there is considerable night traffic at the hotel - and the staff makes sure they are marking up those services ...lots of real low life hanging out there...
The ADSL service is intermittent...no one knows anything, except a kid that somehow keeps it running. ADSL cables in the rooms are often defect...(I had to venture out and get my own cable).
The Pantawee is completely overpriced for what it is offering...I would stay away and use anyone of the almost free internet cafes that actually let you plug in your notebook computer for around 30 baht/hour...
My advice: stay away from the dump!

I'm not defending them upeka, but I must have stayed at a good time then, as I have done in the past, I did'nt have any problems with the internet connections, even the wireless dsl seemed to work pretty well once I found out you had to ask for the password
Never seen the drunken manager, but the owner leaves a little to the imagination, but the rooms seemed clean and well kept and it was nice to be able to hop out the room into that giant jacuzzi thing they have there..
As for prices, I usually only stay where I am for the night so I usually just pay whats displayed, not a lot of room for negotiation, I think I paid somewhere around 650 last time I was there..
Sounds like it's gone down the pan

Back to bm's question then upeka, a simple denial is fine. It just helps when people decide about a place to stay. Its a bit confusing whe Arjay mentions it, BB thought it was fine, and now this..............
So where is a good place to stay in your opinion, and why? That has internet access of course

Pantawee and Mutmee..
The food was ok - there is however, a food plaza, just across the hospital (3 minute walk) with far better service and less than 1/2 the cost.Paul wrote:Is it actually the hotel you don't like or the internet connection. You did not mention the room quality or food or anything just how bad the internet there is
just wondering
Rooms - depends where you stay: Pantawee essentially has 3 wings: the backpacker cottages across the street (dark, nondescript, no adsl).
The main old building: passable, old rooms with plastic chairs, could all use a major overhaul, paint job..and this joint could become a classic hotel..but apparently the owners are content and lazy..
The new wing with tiny swimming-pool...seems to be ok non-descript.
Warnings: there are some huge transmitters on the building next to the Pantawee - undoubtedly some cell phone transmitter covering the entire province. I talked to a brit who complained of bad headaches after staying there 2-3 days...and once he left, he felt fine. I must admit, at times I felt like having a hang-over..but WItOUT any fun or reason for it...
By thai standards the service is not good at all. Frienly demeanor is contingent upon tips..etc. And again, if someone has to stay there, by all means avoid the flaming drunk manager....
Mutmee is 5 minute from the Pantawee...hence I know both places...essentially, both place are traps for newbies to Nong Khai... overpriced,e tc...

When you talk about the transmitters on the roofs on next building, you mention that at times you feel like you have a hangover,it sounds as if you have stayed at this hotel a few times, If you do not like it that much why did you return for a second or third visit or if you only stayed there once, why not check out and book into some where else? Just curious to know.

No internet access yet in the rooms at Charoensri Grand Hotel and the public computer in the lobby leaves a lot to be desired. Found walking across/down the street to the several internet cafes a better option.jkingsle wrote:Hi,
Just thought I would see if there were any updates on internet access in the rooms at the Choeronsri Grand Hotel in Udon Thani?
Thanks.

Re: Internet Access in Hotel Rooms
Here's an update to inquiries regarding hi-speed internet access.
1. NB Residence (my choice) - Has ADSL in all rooms. You need to request it upon check-in.
2. Charoensri Grand - Can do upon request (from what I was told) but hourly is very expensive (person on other end of line very abrupt and rude when I inquired).
3. Udon Cabana - Has free access. I think they go through TOT.
That's all that I know of for now.
Hope this helps.
