Re: New Expats Club 2009???
Have to agree Galee.
I play golf (badly), play pool on Tuesdays, go out to a bar to watch the football on Sats/Suns, and may go out to eat/drink for a couple of hours on some other nights.
When I came to Udon, I only knew my wife and her family, but now I speak/chat to 40 or 50 farang (some resident, and some back and forth between Udon and Work).
If you go out and do what you like doing, you will meet other like minded individuals.
If I have a problem/question that needs solving, I will ask the person that I think has the best chance to answer it. If they don't know, the chances are, they will be able to direct me to someone who does, and hey presto, another aquaintence/member off Statto's own expat club.
We in Udon are already a huge "EXPATS CLUB" Anyone can join, it costs nothing, just get out there and meet people.

I like Pakawala post I know him personally and I think his input would be a big plus in getting this started
and I also think it might work which is opposite of my previous post if people like Pak get involved

"WoW", Look at Expats Club in Udon!!!
I must say Thank You for all the replys and for all the e-mails i got home at:larsbrandt407@hotmail.com so far and this is only for a week!! There must besomething missing when 21 persons give you a great support on the New Expat Club in Udon and already came with suggestions and help for to get started. I must say i was surprised over this even thougth as i expected there is they who are against all of these so called "Clubs" but that will stand for them. I have succesfully been chairman in organisations like The Seemans Union Transport Worker Ass. , Healthcare, and even as a former politician and i know that people are afraid that joining something it will maybe come to near me!! But my friends,, Joining a Expat Club is Free and shall so be!! This is mentioned to be a serious request for to get people together and maybe get something useful of it in the future.
I can just say, That even if i have to work hard and look around my back i will with clows try to get tis started to show that as many told me, You have the guts, You can get the guys!!!
Visit us in january and see for your self! Time , place and more will be annonced in Udonmap.com and also at Tesco,Charonsi, Big, Airport and many other places. Even in so called locations down at Prajak Rd.
Live well,,, Lars Erik Brandt

Re: New Expats Club 2009???
So, organization or dictatorship? :-"Lars Erik Brandt wrote:Yes,, Now we have got a lot of response on the "New Expats Club in Udon Thani"!!! Thank you for the positive replies and even for those who think that, What!,Why! and "I dont need" anything like that. But to know what this was all about you still must read the announce, Rigth?
I know since many years back in organisations that there is always them who dont believe in anything exept them selvs and will never be a member of anything. Sad life, i must say. Ok you can find your fun and amussment at bars and other places but usually its for a short time and the day will catch you very soon again.
To join and be a member of an Expat Club is of course FREE for anyone and shall not force you to join against your will. I would say to those who are so negative to this, when we started up, come and have a look!! Maybe it change your mind!
Some of the e-mails took up about, Having my wife or my girlfriend with??? Why not? Its not up to me to decide, that is some question for the board but my opinion is this: Why leave the other part outside if she wants to go with you?
Some guys are also afraid(it seems) that now here comes something new! Maybe in can have affect on me in some way! People are always afraid and take distace to something new. This is normal, because if i join i maybe have to talk to someone or have to look at someone or maybe someone reqognice me as a later friend. So i will not join because of these reasons. Well, its ok! As i said its FREE for everyone to take their on steps!
I,ve been chairman for so many orgaisations before (now retired) like The Seemans Union, Swedish Transport Workers, Heart and Healt organisation and others in many years and it have been the same discussion in these org. Why shall i join?, What do i get out of this?, and other question or reasons for not joining!
The Expat Club shall absolutely NOT be political forum were you discuss politic! It shall not be any forum either to discuss questions of racism, Fire-arms or likely and it shall not be any Beer-club or likely!!
Should it turns out in something like that it will leave my membership!!Guarantee!!
How we going to proceed later on is up to many of those who replyed that they will join and help this and serious questions from people outside. What kinds of question i dont no today of course.
But anyhow,, Thank you again for ALL replys and those negatives just makes us a little bit stronger to go on with this process to start a:NEW EXPATS CLUB IN UDON.
May i wish everyone who read this a,, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!

Wow. That wipes the night market meeting out then
Re: "WoW", Look at Expats Club in Udon!!!
Do we really want to belong to a group that won't let us argue about things that we have no influence or power over? Where's the fun?
Most people decide to come together over a common goal, belief, service, sport, etc. I'm not sure that just being an expat is sufficient glue to hold a group together, but I suppose it could be a starting point.
Right now it seems a bit like trying to herd cats. Good luck.
I'll watch for a meeting time, date, and location.

I wish you well in your attempt, but would suggest that you get someone to "Proof read" any documentation before issueing it, thus avoiding statements like ................................
I have succesfully been chairman in organisations like The Seemans Union Transport Worker Ass.

For those concerned or interested there is no reason why the tried and proven NMM cant continue along side of a new club or gathering. After all, thats what democracy is all about. Show up where you want, when you want and enjoy the company of others, easy

Val you make me laugh you come say hello and go off by your self so what difference should that make to youtrubrit wrote:Wow. That wipes the night market meeting out then
yes it would make a difference to me since I sit and chat most of the evening with every one and as for having a club house which is all I think we are talking about simple rules & regulations are all that is needed like no sleeping on the furniture and the club can not be used for a short time hotel room and I know this one will annoy the smokers but it must be a smoke free environment as for shoes on or off we can vote on that one or then it shoes off as for cold drinks both soft and alcohol I see no problem with that one a little profit help the club and of course you must have officers to run the club and some one to hold the dues and profits of the club so the bills get paid and every one who is a officer of some kind should do it voluntarily with out compensation NOTE these are only my suggestions and I am 100%
sure there are much more smarter and more qualified people in here to offer better ideas
Re: "WoW", Look at Expats Club in Udon!!!
It seems some people are in to ''more exclusivity'',which is fine with me!They deserve their own club.
I think where people sit is based on their interests ,company and other preferences. If I am out for the evening and I am not enjoying the company that is most immediate to me,I move also.
Someimes when my football team is on the screen ,I wished that I was sitting somewhere else, but by then most seats are taken!Luckily I have ''rerun UBC'' and get to watch the game many times
Sometimes politic discussions get to involved when we are just out for a friendly visit, which can be quite boring to some and unsettling to others, therefore they change their seating arrangements

Re: "WoW", Look at Expats Club in Udon!!!
I reckon Val will have to google 'Ridgy Didge' and 'Hoon'...
Re: "WoW", Look at Expats Club in Udon!!!
I was of course referring to the topics that wouldn't be allowed in the "new" club.If they were banned then what would the night marketeers have left to talk about, other than the Tiger girls of course.trubrit wrote:Wow. That wipes the night market meeting out then
Yes BM, I am clue less on those Aussie expressions. Almost frightened to Google them.
Re: "WoW", Look at Expats Club in Udon!!!
Aznyron. Ron. I get to the night market earlier than most and sit at a table and await the arrival of my wife and kid, who, invariably are off shopping or chatting somewhere. Now when other members arrive, they see me and sit and chat, so like that the meeting comes to me. more chairs and tables are added, and I find myself at "The Meeting" So when my family get there I say my excuses and sit with them somewhere else. I do not go with the purpose of attending the get together. I am sitting there most Saturday nights, not just the 1st in the month. It used to not be a problem when the meet sat at the long blue tables near no 20, but the last two have moved over to the yellow chairs where I normally sit, bringing me, by default, into it. Perhaps I should make it clear. I enjoy the get together, always say hello to those I know and greet the new faces, but I find after a while, or a few beers, it gets a bit boisterous and loud for me and am generally happy when my other half arrives and I can take myself off somewhere quieter and sit with her.You may have noticed a few friends from the forum often join me , where I sit, for varying lengths of time. We have a good one to one chat, sometimes serious, sometimes crazy, depends who it is. and sometimes includes the others TG/TW who enjoys my ladies company. That I am afraid is how I am. If preferring that way, makes me look stand offish, then I am sorry for that, but I have always been so inclined and I am too old to change my ways now.
Re: "WoW", Look at Expats Club in Udon!!!
sorry Val i did not notice you were sitting with the wife my apologies I just thought you were bored with us

i had to look up 'lippy', then a word in the definition 'impudent', though i like that one, doubt if i'll remember it.
so you all got to start using little words i don't have to look up, with definitions that have words i don't have to look up.
I'm bored with usthought you were bored with us
