Would he get called a 'Farang' if he was on Holiday in Thailand....Yes but mainly No, so some would call him a farang and most would call him Farang Dum, and some Dua-Dum some even might use 'Farang Kow-Dum' ..and some might call him 'Hampsum Man' or 'Sexy Man'', "Lubbly Man",depending on where he was or 'Boss' if he was walking down Sukhumvit.
But when he does arrive in Thailand on Official Business i think he will be called Plesident Obama or 'Sir'..and obviously the word 'Farang' or 'Farang Dum' would be nowhere to be heard, in most places anyway.

Does anyone really care if Obama is a farang, who cares, will the world stop turning, will he still be sworn in as the only coloured President whose ancestry is also doubtful ( but definitely NOT american) .

Gosh, is it only 49 days? I'm looking forward to it already. I'm with Uncle Ron and Uncle Jack on this one, it doesn't matter whether the man is pigeon holed as a Farang or otherwise - judge him on his merits and future actions not his racial background. Good luck to the chap.

Actually, as his mother was American, and his father was African, Obama is one of the few truly African Americans in the US. As to whether he's a farang, well, that would be up to Thais, I think. A Farang wondering if another non-Thai would be called a farang is a bit like the pot calling the kettle...um, well, you know.
