Well as you asked, here goes. Should liven the topic up a bit.
Firstly I would apply a sartorial standard to all farangs. Yes a dress code. This could be applied at point of entry and enforced regularly at visa renewal time. Now I am writing humorously but before you comment let me tell you. When I first came to Thailand in 1977 there was displayed on the wall in immigration a notice that said " Persons with long hair or inappropriate dress will be refused entry to the Kingdom. I think ,from my current observations that if applied today, it would decimate at least half the farang population  Secondly, a litle more serious. I would make sure all incoming visitors had sufficient funds ie: travelers cheques etc.To cover the duration of their visa.Whether its 30days or 3 months.. It is obvious that many presently don't.
Currently I would set that figure at 30,000bht per month.(interested to hear serious comments on that one). I would also insist that proof of heath and accident cover was available.I never have heard of so many, mostly elderly, that are existing on a wing and a prayer over here.
Obviously these are farang only changes. On a more general note to the native populace. I would improve the educational opportunities for the poorer elements of society. Starting with going back to the traditional role of the temples as places of learning, not just about the Buddha but also what is known as the three R"s. I never cease to be amazed at the opulence of some temples compared to the impoverished appearance of the local school. If you want to make merit for yourself by giving tambon to the temple, I feel the monks also have a duty to the Lord Buddha to use that money for the improvement of the local people.Gold on the roof, is no substitute for knowledge.
I could go on and on in a similar vein, there are so many injustices here, but I think I have answered Aardvarks question enough to generate a few replies.

Val well then I better buy my ticket back to the USA because I do not have health care coverage in Thailand but I do have it in the USA it called medicare I just have to sign up for it again as for your comment on educating the poor I agree with you 100% I also would like to ad to the 3 R. is learning & I mean serious learning of the Queens English or the USA form of English which is accepted through the world as for the dress code not every one likes wearing a suit & tie but I do agree with appropriate
appearance as for pony tails & beards now you are getting in to discrimination which I DO NOT AGREE
WITH. / Jeans with holes and wrinkled shirts and printed logos on shirts sleeveless shirts I would agree is not appropriate dress for going to any Government office now you heard from me

trubrit , ive got some really bad news for you , we are now in the 21st century !!!!! things have moved on in the last thirty years , i know its a shock for you but its also a fact . you can dress an arse in a suit , but hes still an arse !!!! i tend to assess people on how they conduct themselves and not how they dress . most people now dress for comfort , especially in a thai climate . as for kids going to the temples to learn , are you being serious ? thai youth being taught by a bunch of lazy monks that have basically opted out of society . would it not be better to give them decent schools with better qualified teachers , and some proper equipment ? as for the rest of your ramblings , they dont even deserve a comment.

Just a couple of observations saint ....

1) I think you meant to say ....... "things have moved BACKWARDS in the last 30 years"
2)you can dress an arse in a suit , but hes still an arse !!!! .... but at least he is a respectable arse, and that's one up on the slob wearing shorts in the govt. office

And from one of your other posts .....

at least i caught the awards , the winners were , trubrit ,best dressed .

As a farang myself if i was handed the jon to become PM what im sure would be an intresting concept . I feel it is time to put my tongue firmly in the the side of my cute cheek as i ponder what to write . I sip my gin and tonic on the slighty warm sunday evening for this time of year well if i was the PM of thailand "HMMM" what would i change ok here we go!!

1. The sign "alien" at border crossings the relates to us farang as we are not from another planet. ](*,)

2. The same payment to enter national parks and zoo's etc (imagine charging a muslim more to enter the tower of london ) hahahah

3. A small booklet posted to every house hold that plastic bags don't grow legs in the garden and walk themself to the bin

4. Someone has gone to great lengh and in fact risk thier own life to paint black and white marking in the roads to allow the general public to cross the road with no danger .I would raise general public awareness that these markings are not just for decoration they are to provent injury or death ,while to allow the pubic to cross the road I would also send the contractor who took out the task to a psychiatric doctor to be section under the mental health act for such a time he signs of rational behavior.

5 . Any farang making problem in the good kindom of Thailand to be throw in jail and made it eat 100 year old isarn eggs oR starve to death

6 . Make the isarn word for yes (ERRR) illegal

7 . Try to vent the point that walking up escolater's is not such a bad thing and tend to get you to the pop 20% faster

I still dither like Timothy Lumsden as I wait for Eva to fly me home. Maybe I could put some boards up on my Brother-in-Law's Pick Up and drive slowly around Soi Nongbua exhorting (have I mispelt that?) the merits of future Isaan PM: Khun BM (the Sam Lor driver's choice).

As for dress code I dont think you should have to dress to the hilt but people should take pride in their appearance and some could use with a bar of soap.

I think it should be made possible to own a equal share in your house as your thai wife.(papers in joint names)

I would like to see the schools taught more about the world outside of thailand and english compulsary.
on the other hand farlungs who retire in thailand should be able to speak basic thai.

aren't we all so honest and stacked with good intentions, not one corrupt candidate among us.

Never mind Westerby. I do realise my postings require a modicum of intelligence to understand. So remarks like Saints come as no surprise to me.

Sorry, Barack Monkey wasn't born here so cannot become PM. Besides, he hasn't made his position clear on where he stands on the all-important dress code issue.

Sartorial splendor?

However, if farangs are allowed to run for office and vote then my choice would be Pop's who runs an award winning business, has all the moves (check his videos) and always gives out the alarm whenever he sees a truckload of redshirts pass his shop ("The redcoats, are coming, the redcoats are coming!!"). :D

I shall not seek, and I will not accept, the nomination of my party for another term as your Prime Minister.

Seriously? I'd bring back Thaksin as an economic advisor. There are one or two other things I'd do, but I am not allowed to post them.

Interesting, in an era when there's an economic downturn, a statesman/businessman might be a good choice to advise a Government.

westers , we both go to the night market , but as trubrit tends to think hes above most of us , he tends to sit alone or with his chosen few , whereas i will talk to most people irrispective of where they come from or how they dress . although i do prefer to converse with people who have thier head firmly on thier shoulders , and not stuck between thier butt cheeks . :D :D :D :D

OK, not my argument, I'll let it lie.

Back on Topic, 'Farang for PM': encourage more Farang investment in Thailand and relax financial restrictions on farangs with regard to business and land ownership.
