i got my bicycle heLmet in the u.k.it cost me 50 pounds ,the instructions with it state 'not for use on a motor bike' .here in udon tesco lotus were offering two motorbike helmets for 200 baht or nearly 4 pounds. did occur to me would teSco sell helmets of the same standard in the u.k. ?

It's not just they ride their motorbikes without lights at night!

We were driving towards Udon after 6pm and TWICE we saw a bunch of parked motorbikes with young people standing and chatting along the DARK 4 lane road from Sakhon Nowhere to Udon

yes, also notice that alot, seems locals have no common sense to their location, proximaty to dangerous or simply arrogantly inconvenient locations to park or stand and chat. and of course, not to be overlooked, the extreme parkng habits due to laziness. some farangs are assimilating nicely also.

how many times you are shopping and there is a family gathering in aisle, at entrance of escalator. cars parked on blind curves, or just after a turn. or double, triple parked as you exit anything. particular at schools, where they leave, then park immediately to buy food, usually double or triple parked, during rush hour, of all time.

we realize parking is at a premium, and not much many can do, but a little common sense goes a long way to being considerate. 3 vehicles parked on one side, allowing space to cars to pass, then the one idiot decides to park on other side, and blocks what little space was availble to begin with. or 2 vehicles coming down a street, obviously not wide enough to accomondate both, but spots for either to pull in to allow the other to squeeze thru, but do they yield, no, both ignore, then the stand off begins.

in my past existance i lived for 10 years in salou in spain,a friend who owned a bar there (The Rovers Return) Lenny was his name ,came here to Thailand for his winter holiday ,hired himself a scooter in Pattaya,did the usual got drunk,got on the scooter drove as normal as he did in spain(to fast) hit a car and killed himself,,,,,He should have been used to bad parking as the spanish park anywhere

Lamp consideration and driving do not go hand and hand here. No excuses for no helmets but has anyone noticed the yellow cycles on the red lights here. Way to fast, they don't allow sufficient time for a driver to get stopped. Before the red cycle goes on and the green for the cross traffic to go. Intersection I wait till the cross traffic clear.

Not making an excuses for running red lights but the signal have to be set to give a person enough time to stop. Timed one on ring road, 4 seconds. Speed limit a far as I can tell is 90 Klms an hour. You are not going to get that vehicele stopped in four seconds with reaction calculated in.

I have hit them where i just could not stop. Or have that idiot laying into horn telling you he is going through the light you stop he will rear end you.

On bikes if possible best to get in the bike lane slow before you ge to interesction if there is any doubt in yuor mind that it will turn red before you get to the intersection.

Helmets sold here will not be sold in th US or the UK, since tort laws would kill the manufactor in no time. We came here for freedom in a lot ways. Don't expect the same restrictions on some things you have to do or not do yourself.

Other then going down and chatting with the boys every 90 days I have had more freedom here than I have anywhere. I enjoy it but there are costs for it.

This is the crux, NO COMMONSENSE at all, it seems that this nation came bottom of that league totally, even when you watch them working their lack of the above never ceases to amazeme.
I have often said in relation to road accidents the Insurance companies do have the uppeer hand, while they continue to pay out for accidents that are obviously caused by stupidity then they will continue to be stupid.
NOW if these same insurance companies took the high moral ground and refused to pay out for death/in juriesd and even damage caused by these idiots.then just maybe the fact that the father/mother or even the children would spend time in prison because they could not afford to pay up, and they could not afford to have a GOOD BUDDIST burial/burn, then maybe they would start to take a little more care...........One hopes...jai dee is no longer an option on Thai roads.
