Will be playing some techno/trance at the wedding. God knows what the in-laws will make of it. Look forward to seeing you strutting your stuff.Irish Alan wrote:That kind of thing is okay for you youngsters out galavanting in Mr. Tongs or whatever till the early hours. Yes BM he really was blind.beer monkey wrote:was he really blind..and thought she was a bit tasty when i was a wee boy.
Wikipedia wrote:Lennie Peters, who was blinded in an accident when aged 16, was a pianist playing in London pubs when he teamed up with actress and dancer Dianne Lee in 1970. They entered the TV talent show Opportunity Knocks, which they won easily. A record contract was signed with Philips and quickly followed by the number one hit "Welcome Home". Shortly after, a successful first album followed, called We Can Make It, which also reached the number one position. Their first year's sales resulted in two gold discs.
Peters and Lee also had a popular TV series, which made them household names, and frequent appearances on Top of the Pops kept their record sales steady. They reputedly turned down the chance to represent the UK at the 1975 Eurovision Song Contest.
The duo had five hit singles in the 1970s, the second biggest after "Welcome Home" being "Don't Stay Away Too Long". They also had a run of successful albums throughout the decade (including By Your side, Rainbow and Favourites) before splitting up in 1980. Lee then went solo, whilst Peters withdrew from public life. The pair would later reunite to perform on the 'nostalgia circuit', before Lennie Peters' untimely death from bone cancer in 1992, aged 53.
Their five UK chart hits were:
* "Welcome Home": May 1973, #1
* "By Your Side": November 1973, #39
* "Don't Stay Away Too Long": April 1974, #3
* '"Rainbow": August 1974, #17
* "Hey Mr. Music Man": March 1976, #16

Good to see old Shaky scraping in at the bottom of the page. The Pogues and Kirsty penned the best hit for Crimbo, though.Irish Alan wrote:The best Christmas songs ever!

Re: Favourite Music.
interesting....never knew this...and nicely linked in to timthebrit's(above post) location
no seatbelts back then....he probably would still be around today.
On Saturday, April 16, 1960, at about 11:50 p.m., while on tour in the United Kingdom, 21-year-old Cochran died in a traffic accident in a taxi (a Ford Consul, [reg. no. RBO 869], not, as widely quoted, a London Hackney carriage) traveling through Chippenham, Wiltshire, England on the A4. The taxi crashed into a lamp post on Rowden Hill, where a plaque now commemorates the event (no other car was involved). He was taken to St. Martin's Hospital, Bath, but died at 4:10 p.m. the following day.Songwriter Sharon Sheeley (Cochran's fiancée) and singer Gene Vincent survived the crash, Vincent sustaining injuries that would shorten his career and affect him for the rest of his life.
The taxi driver, George Martin, was convicted of dangerous driving, fined £50, disqualified from driving for 15 years, and sent to prison for six months.
The car and other items from the crash were impounded at the local police station until a coroners' inquest could be held. At that time, David Harman, better known as Dave Dee of the band Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich, was a police cadet at the station. He taught himself to play guitar on Cochran's impounded Gretsch.

Re: Favourite Music.
I remember it Beermonkey, though I was very young at the time. Rowden Hill is a 10 minute drive from me and fans still go to the memorial plaque every year on the anniversary of his demise. He had just done a gig in Bristol (which my elder brother had been to see) and was on his way to London when the crash happened.
Re: Favourite Music.
Alan, I found some Michael Jackson for you.
