Three of my all time favorites in there....Best Years of Our Lives, Shane and Raging Bull. Would have included Treasure of the Sierra Madre. Groundhog Day in a best ever list?

Best years of our lives was very good as I remember though a long time since I seen it, Double Indemnity another good one but he has nothing after 1993 and Groundhog Day? No Great Escape, Platoon, Saving Private Ryan, Schindler's List or Departed. Oh well it is his personal choice... :-"

I think this is to difficult of an assignment.Different movies have different effects on people depending on their life experiences and predjudices!Plus there just to many great movies over time to say ''the 10 best.It would be more sensible and reasonable to ask for the best 10 of a decade!

I am a movie buff,always have been,but I have my predjudices that effect the type of movie thatI prefer!I like realistic type movies with great actors and direction.Bad casting of characters can ruin a great plot!

When I was a kid,I thought Hopalong Cassidy,Tom mix,Gene Autry and Roy rogers movies were the greatest and with different ''eras'' of my life many changes in preference and perceptions were made.

Today,I am bored with the unrealistic computer enhanced action type movies,also have little interst in ''fantasy'' movies,Lord of the Rings,Harry Potter and movies with the majority of actors that are very youthful!

Many of the old classics have famous actors,that,at the time touched an emotional chord in me,but today many of them seem overdramatic and shallow in their character presentation(

I think of ladyboys trying to act like a woman} compared to some good acting in the last 30 years!
Godfathers,Goodfellas,Ronan,most of Tom Hanks and Jack Nicholson movies,most Liam Neilson movies,most Denzel Washington movies and several other great actors have many movies that would make someones list!

3 of my all time great movies were Ben Hur and Lawrence of Arabia and Color Purple!I could go on and on,but as I said earlier,just to difficult to select 10 best!

''Taken''is my most recent recommendation,Liam does a great job!

Agree that a Best 10 Movie list leaves out a lot of good or better selections. The IMDb list shows Shawshank Redemption as the most popular (or best lobbied) movie in their interesting list of top 250 international movies. A good link anyway to get a synopsis on a movie, year made, actors in it, etc.

To be honest, I wouldn't realy know if a movie was "American with British actors", "British with American actors" or "Outer Mongolian with French actors".

What constitutes an AMERICAN MOVIE .......?

1) One that was filmed in America?
2) One that has American actors?
3) One financed by American producers?
4) One that is popular in American cinemas?

that is an excellent site. use it all the time. sadly, too many movies are geared to the american audience, there is 300 million customers though, hard to ignore if wanting decent profits. luckily, many non yanks do an excellent job with american language, sadly, it doesn't work that well in reverse. i'm suprised many times when hearing an actor/actress on talk show, only to find out they aren't american and have a hard accent, after seeing them in an american role. some excellent voice coaching and work.

Imdb also has a forum and you can enter into a discussion on a particular movie if you like. The one for Saving Private Ryan was vicious the last time i read it. The cross Atlantic slanging match!
