I always liked westerns, High Noon, Shane, and Hondo.

There's a new original coming on HBO in Feb. I hope it will be show here in Asia. It's called "Taking Chance" starring Kevin Bacon, here's the trailer:

It's based on a true story, can be read here but you'll probably need some tissue handy:

I am not a critic; not an analyical one who can tell you what is good or bad about a movie. It is just that my head and my heart are grabbed by some and not grabbed by the others.
The first movie I saw was Greatest Show on Earth, the tale of a travelling circus with characters with some problems in their background hiding inside the circus family. Charlton Heston and Tony Curtis might have been in the cast along with some pretty trapeze ladies. Well, a short time after I saw the movie, a circus came to our small town. I snuck out of our home carrying a few clothes to join the circus. Unfortunately being in a small town a lot of people knew me; I was returned to my parents without even a chance to meet any of the pretty ladies.
Any psychologist, there was none in the town, could have told my parents that this kid will not fit into a 'normal' life and will eventually end up living in Udon.

Minor correction Ray, that was Tony Curtis and Burt Lancaster and Mr. Lancaster did NOT use a double. He was a trapeze artist before becoming an actor.

And yes, I would have guessed you'd end up in Udon...

"Trapeze" (1956) was the movie with Burt Lancaster and Tony Curtis, Pak. You're right about Lancaster performing most of his own stunts. Here's a couple of links:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0049875/

The Greatest Show on Earth (1952) did star Charlton Heston:

Check the cast which included many circus performers and even Bob Hope and Jimmy Stewart in cameo roles. Saw this one as a kid at the Saturday matinee. Probably saw Trapeze on TV long after it was released since it wasn't cool to go to matinees when you were no longer a kid.

Enjoy most films directed by Steven Spielberg. For me, sheer escapism, especially sc-fi.

Certainly groundhog day with Andie Macdowell had fantastic script and fantastic uplifting ending which i could watch again and again. Meet me in st louis is a classic for sure. My others would be Fargo with Francis Mcdormand and William h Macy, also vietnam in the Quiet American with Brendan Fraser and classsic horror Halloween with gorgeous Jamie Lee Curtis. 8)

Great one, Pak.

Friend sent me a link to the trailer the other day. I won't miss it.

Anyone looking for great action movie with lots of twists, try "Shooter." Movie Link

Groundhog Day? I always get the feeling that I saw it before and before and before. Good movie but not a Top Tenner, only in my opinion.

Anyone seen the Oliver Stone movie (W.) about George W. Bush yet? Unable to find it on my torrent sites. Good cast with Josh Brolin as GW and Richard Dreyfuss as Cheney. James Cromwell seems to be a good fit as former President George Herbert Walker Bush. I'm sure Brooklyn Ronnie will rush out to buy this one when it becomes available.

along the lines of 'W' non complimentary to current affairs

Iraq for Sale (haliburton/kbr/caci/titan/blackwater...tax dollars wasted, only reason for war)

and Zeitgeist, part 1, jesus and religion, part 2 WTC, nothing new there, just some fine points, part 3, central banking, was an eye opener, and explains so much of today's economics, purposely done for a better world, well, for a few people, have both 'iraq for sale' and 'zeitgeist' if anyone needs.

IMO Miracle on 34th Street staring Maureen O'Hara, Natalie Wood, and John Payne ranks near the top of best movies ever. Remembe that old b&w movie? The story script was centered about a Santa Clause hired by Macy's department store. O'Hara was adament that her daughter, Natalie, never accept any fantasy, incuding Santa Clause.

IMO children need to learn early that many a fantasy is being told which will prove untrue and possibly harmful. Along with Santa Clause and the Tooth Fairy, there are get-rich-quick schemes, quack medical remedies, and social security retirement. Having learned about fantasies, children will be better prepared to avoid some of the pitfalls of life.

Whenever asked my favourite movie I always reply "Pulp Fiction" (but I like all Tarantino movies - for ever pushing the boundaries of movie making), closely followed by "Blazing Saddles" (but, again, I like Mel Brooks humour which is maybe too childish for some). I also think Clint Eastwood has been involved in some excellent movies - particularly as a director.
As older movies go I always liked "Shane" - although maybe a bit moralistic for the cynical times we live in now.
