I don't think it's just the gaming shops, it's the drugs and until they get a grip on that
nothing will change. It's also certainly not just limited to the Pattaya area although there
does seem to be a preponderance of young males without work or the desire to work.

2 BAHT BUS GANGS APPREHENDED FOLLOWING ROBBERY OF 2 TOURISTS IN PATTAYA
On 30th January 2 foreign tourists were robbed on 2 different baht busses at about the same time. The thieves, a team of Thai females in both cases, were caught with the help of some Good Samaritans.

Pattaya Deputy Superintendent Pol. Lt. Col. Sutum Chowsritong received a report at 00.50 am. that a female pick pocket gang had been apprehended in front of a hotel on Jomtien beach. A Police team rushed to the scene to investigate.

In front of the Grand Jomtien Hotel, Moo. 12, Nongprue, Banglamung, they found two Thai female suspects, Miss Sowapa Saetung [18] and a 13-year-old girl, Miss Ya [alias], the victim, Mr. Craig Robertson [40] , an Australian national, and the thief catchers.

Mr. Robertson explained that he was in the Baht bus with his girlfriend and another two friends, traveling from South Pattaya to Jomtien. On the way, three Thai women joined the bus and one of them sat beside him. While he was distracted talking to his friend, he said the woman must have got into his bag which was placed on his lap.

He became suspicious when they rushed to push the alarm and got off the bus. When he checked his bag and found his wallet missing, he shouted for help from people nearby and they managed to grab two of ladies. The third escaped with his wallet.

The two suspects denied all knowledge of the theft and said they didn’t know the 3rd lady. Eye witness accounts confirmed the victim’s story and police took the two ladies into custody for further processing.

Only ten minutes later, police were informed about another pick pocket team apprehended by the victim and witnesses in front of Top Supermarket, Pattaya second road.

Mr. Frank [40], an American citizen, was sitting on a Baht bus alone when five women got on and started to chat with him. When the bus arrived in front of Pattaya Land Soi 2, Pattaya second road, one of the women picked his wallet from his pocket and they all ran out of the bus and onto another one.

Mr. Frank immediately noticed what had happened and shouted for help. Some bystanders came to help and managed to arrest most of the gang and retrieve Mr. Frank's wallet which contained about 1000 baht in cash, ATM cards and other documents. One of the suspects managed to escape.

When police questioned the suspects, Mrs. Sunet Kiewsaart [42], Sunan Kiewsaart [39], Miss Sunisa Juntarow [18] and a girl [14] Miss Da [alias], they denied any involvement and claimed that the thief was the one who had escaped and she had thrown Mr. Frank's wallet to them. Police didn’t believe their story and took them into custody.

Police believe both gangs are responsible for previous unsolved robberies of tourists and probably many others in which the victims hadn’t bothered to report the thefts to police. Similar gangs are still operating and tourists are warned to be alert when riding baht busses.

The ladyboys in particular are very clever. They "attempted" to pickpocket an Englishman sitting
across from me one day, I had my eyes open the entire time and barely got a glimpse of it. They usually almost sit on top of you for distraction, then with large handbags covering their movements, pass the opposing hand under the bag and try and fish around in your pockets. The English fellow felt the sensation and swatted his hand down on his thigh and the ladyboy begins squawking ALAI! ALAI!
But you know without the evidence on their person, what can you do? Unless you catch them with
the goods I don't think there is much recourse and the sickening thing is that they usually target old
folks or people travelling with kids because they're more easily distracted and/or maybe trusting?

MOTORBIKE BAG SNATCHERS TARGET JEWELLER‘S WIFE IN PATTAYA
http://www.pattayadailynews.com/shownew ... 0000008348

As part of a growing trend in Pattaya more and more thieves are seizing the opportunity to target victims on motorcycles, either stationary or while riding along the city’s busy roads.

Yet another incident occurred at 00.15 am on 31st January when Pattaya Deputy Superintendent Pol. Lt. Col. Sutum Chowsritong was notified that a foreign man and his wife had been robbed in front of the Tuk Com Computer Centre on South Pattaya road.

At the scene the police team found Miss Pornkaew Mongkolkitt [31] , residing at 33 Moo. 4 Donghen, Konkaen and her husband, Mr. Brian Fewtrfee [58] , in a frightened state.

Miss Pornkaew explained that she was sitting on the back of the motorbike with her bag while her husband was driving towards Walking Street. Two men, wearing black clothes and with their faces covered by helmets, were on a motorbike following them.

The thieves managed to grab her bag containing a diamond necklace valued at about 70,000 BT, a diamond ring worth 60,000 BT, over 20,000 BT in cash, a mobile phone and ATM card. The total value stolen was around 200,000 BT. The thieves sped away towards Pattaya Third Road. The victims were unable to give a description of the theives’ motorbike.

Police sent out an alert over the radio but there was no sighting of the robbers.

Miss Pornkaew said she felt sorry for the loss because they were gifts from her husband who had run a jewelry business in England. "I really want the police to try to find these snatchers and bring them to the justice", she said.

PATTAYA TOURIST POLICE CLEAN UP BEACH ROAD AND SEND A STRONG WARNING

http://www.pattayadailynews.com/shownew ... 0000008344

On the night of 30th January the Pattaya Tourist Police rounded up about 50 people hanging around the Pattaya beach area to give them a serious lecture and a warning about their behaviour towards tourists.

At 01.20 am. Pattaya Tourist Police investigator, Pol. Lt. Col. Anan Aunsuwan, led his team, which included the volunteers, on a patrol along the Beach road, starting from North Pattaya and down towards South Pattaya beach. In the process they rounded up about 50 prostitutes, lady boys and teenagers.

They were given a strong warning not to bother tourists by pushing the sale of sex or drugs and not to fight, rob or cheat them. They must also carry their ID Cards with them all the time. Police also announced that foreign prostitutes would be arrested too.

Pol. Lt. Col. Anan Aunsuwan confirmed that tourists had been continuously attacked and cheated in many ways including robbery, the drugging of victims followed by robbery, snatching and pick-pocketing. The culprits were nearly always prostitutes, lady boys and teenagers and some tourists had been attacked by drunken gangs of young teenagers which had drawn a bad image of Pattaya.

This year there are fewer tourists than usual and officials would be making a serious effort to clean up the crime in Pattaya. As part of this process the investigator said procedures would be put in place to make Pattaya Beach Road a better and safer place for tourists and locals.

Friday 30th January 2009
Tourist Police issue final warning to Pattaya Beach Prostitutes and loiterers.

In the early hours of Friday Morning in the front of the Tourist Police Station located on the Pratamnuk Hill, Police Lieutenant Colonel Suwan, the Inspector-in-Charge of the station held a parade of men and women rounded-up earlier in the night from Pattaya Beach. Some were suspected of engaging in prostitution and others were known to the Police as troublemakers. They were told by the Inspector that they were rounded-up and taken to the Station for the purpose of issuing them with a final warning not to engage in any anti-social or criminal activities on the beach again otherwise they would be arrested. The Tourist Police are expected to conduct regular beach clean-up operations in the coming weeks and hope that this final warning will be enough to reduce crimes occurring on the beach from now on.

Monday 2nd February 2009
Bus drivers clash as they compete for customers on the Sukumvit Road.

Coaches that stop on the Sukumvit Road will often compete with others for customers who wait to travel to locations such as Bangkok or Rayong. Sometimes this can lead to violence and on Sunday Afternoon, Police stopped two coaches after an incident occurred in Bang Sarai sub-district resulting in a bus driver sustaining injuries following a fight with a driver of another coach. Both were attempting to persuade the same customer to travel on their bus. Na-Jomtien Police contacted their colleagues in Pattaya who were asked to stop a coach driven by Khun Kumpong aged 40 which was travelling from Rayong to Bangkok. He drove away from the scene after allegedly attacking the driver of a coach who was also travelling to Bangkok. Khun Ruem-mit aged 35 sustained multiple injuries after Khun Kumpong and two other men allegedly attacked him with a steel pipe. A financial settlement of 10,000 Baht was agreed by the two men who cleared the problem at the scene without further Police intervention. Similar incidents involving these coach drivers are on the increase and it can be only a matter of time until a driver is either seriously injured or even killed.

Tuesday 3rd February 2009
Motorbike stolen from kind-hearted English Man who stops to help at road accident.

Just after 1.30 on Tuesday Morning, Police Lieutenant Colonel Pratip from Pattaya Police Station was called to the North Pattaya Road opposite the Mantra Pura Hotel to investigate the theft of a motorbike. At the scene officers were met by Mr. George aged 62 from England who was extremely angry as a kind gesture resulted in the theft of his bike. He revealed that he was driving his motorbike along the road when he spotted a motorbike had fallen on the floor and the driver was struggling to get their bike started again. Mr. George decided to stop to offer assistance and parked up but left the key in the ignition of his motorbike. Two men on a further bike pulled up close to Mr. George who thought they had stopped to assist as well. In fact, they had spotted Mr. George’s bike and intended to steal it which is what happened moments after the pair arrived. Mr. George was taken to Pattaya Police Station where he made a report of the incident and his bike now joins an ever increasing list of stolen bikes here in the Pattaya area.

Wednesday 4th February 2009
Necklace theft cases continue here in Pattaya.

As we reported earlier this week, necklace snatches are on the increase and we now report on two cases which occurred on Tuesday Night.
The first case comes from the front of the Siam Bayshore Hotel on the Pratamnuk Road in South Pattaya. Police Lieutenant Colonel Sutum from Pattaya Police Station was called to the area after members of the public had detained a Thai Man who was accused of an attempted theft of a necklace from a French Tourist. Police spoke with Mr. Mehdi Braqtar aged 33 who explained that he was driving his motorbike when a further bike came up beside his and the driver reached over and grabbed his necklace. The theft was successful and the suspect attempted to drive away, however Mr. Braqtar gave chase and forced the suspect’s motorbike to fall over. A fist fight then took place between the Thai Man and Mr. Braqtar. Members of the public realized what had happened and came to the assistance of Mr. Braqtar and detained Khun Sampan aged 23 who denied allegations of theft and claimed the two men had a road accident which was followed by a fight, during which Mr. Braqtar’s necklace was damaged. Police charged Khun Sampan with theft and his is now behind bars awaiting a court appearance.
The second case begins at the entrance to Walking Street in South Pattaya where Police met with the victim of the necklace snatch, Khun Jittar aged 27. She explained that she was sitting on the back of a Baht Bus when two men drove beside the vehicle and snatched a gold necklace from around her neck. Descriptions of both men were circulated amongst officers and one of the young men aged only 15 was spotted on Pattaya Third Road in front of the Xzyte Discotheque. He confessed to the theft and was caught in possession of the stolen necklace. He is now facing a charge of aggravated theft and is due to appear in court next week. A second suspect managed to escape and is currently being sought by Police.

I remember very clearly the manager of an apt. I stayed at in patters telling me (in his own words) that
the the town had changed so much in the 27 years he'd been living there and honestly, the biggest problem was in fact the Thais themselves, who came from every nook and cranny in the country to
"find money" in the city. Many of them not working and no intention to work only stealing off everybody
else. And other Thais I think are their victims even more often than the average tourist. He said the police were just overwhelmed and didn't have the manpower to deal with it all. True, oh so true.

MYSTERY FOREIGN MAN FOUND DEAD OFF KOH LARN PATTAYA

At 8.00 pm, on 4 February, 2009, Pattaya police were notified by Koh Larn villagers that an as yet unidentified foreign man had been found dead on a reef near the Nah Yak Beach. Police accordingly sent a team to investigate.

At the Nah Yak Beach, one km. from Samae Beach, the police investigators found the body of a white man, aged between 45-50, with fair skin, lying face up on a reef. He was clad in a blue short-sleeved shirt, and cream shorts with a black belt. Police inspected his body and found no evidence of foul play or any signs of his having been attacking. The only apparent injury was a few minor scratches on his face, which police assume were caused by the waves thrusting him against the rocks. Police estimate that he had been dead for about 5 hours. A lighter, a set of keys, Bt55 cash and a bottle of water were also found at the scene, which police kept as evidence.

After questioning people in the neighborhood, nobody was found who could identify the dead man. Police presume he was a tourist, who had wandered around the beach and might have fallen in the water and subsequently drowned. However, the body will be sent to the Police Hospital for an autopsy to find the real cause of death. Police will also continue their investigations to discover more information about the mystery man and hope to be able to inform his relatives and his embassy, when he has been identified.

Thursday 5th February 2009
Monk removed from his position after he is found sleeping next to a woman.

Late on Wednesday Night, Police Lieutenant Colonel Pramot from Banglamung Police Station was called to a rented room in Soi Kow Tha Low following numerous complaints received suggesting a Buddhist Monk was living with a woman inside the room. This is not permitted under the rules and regulations pertaining to ordained Monks and the Police were obliged to follow up the complaint and attended the location and found Pra Niwatidi-yanong inside the room sleeping close to a woman, Khun Chom aged 41. There was no evidence that sexual intercourse was taking place and the Monk claimed that the pair were very good friends but were not in a relationship. Despite his story he was taken to see the Chief Monk at the Suttawat Temple who ordered the monk to disrobe and was removed from the Monkehood. The Chief Monk also wanted to speak with the woman, however when Police went to find her at the room, she had disappeared.

Four pickpockets caught by Good Samaritans

Posted by admin / 2009-02-05

Police Lieutenant Colonel Sutham Chaosreethong, Pattaya Police Deputy
Four pickpockets caught by Good Samaritans
Superintendent of Crimes Supression Unit, Chonburi, had received a report that a group of pickpockets were under detention by good Samaritans on 2nd road near soi Pattaya Land in front of Thai Military Bank, South Pattaya. After receiving the report, the police arrived at the scene.

At the scene, there was Mr. Roy Trank Askuik Mobilenro, who was a victim, and good Samaritans were detaining 4 pickpockets. They were Miss Sunisa Juntaro, aged 18, Miss Sanet Keowsa-ad, aged 42, Miss Da (alias name), aged 14, and Mrs. Sunan Keowsa-ad, aged 39. They lived in inner city in soi 5, Tepprasit road, Jomtein. The police found 1 amphetamine in a pocket shirt of Miss Da and equipment for taking drugs. They also found a wallet which had 1,140 baht and ATM. They were taken to police station and the police performed urine tests on them and the results turned out to be positive for all of them.

Mr. Roy told the police that he was taking a baht bus to return to his hotel in South Pattaya area. When the bus reached soi Pattaya Land, 2nd road, a group of suspects got on the bus. They sat next to him and initiated a conversation and while he was not aware one of them reached into his pants pocket to grab his wallet. He realized what just happened to him and started to shout for help. The gang of 4 was then apprehended by good Samaritans who luckily happened to be nearby. Although they were caught red-handed, they denied all the charges and Miss Sunan Keowsa-add challenged the police to prove they were wrongdoers.
Four pickpockets caught by Good Samaritans

Police Lieutenant Colonel Chanapat Nawaluk, Pattaya Deputy Superintendent of Investigation, told the reporters that pickpocket phenomenon was a prolonged problem for Pattaya City. A gang of pickpockets usually has 4-5 members and Miss Sunan Keowsa-ad is very notorious and her gang even has its own call sign “Gang Family soi 5”. Their victims mostly are foreigners and when they were caught the police could not find the evidence on Miss Sunan, who is a leader of the gang. Nevertheless, they will be charged with conspiring of theft at night time and being in possession of illegal substances.

They're apparently notorious because they're immediately released to go do it again, and again.
Also I'm puzzled where they could have found 4 good samaritans? fellow was extremely lucky.
