travelling with dog

We planned a trip to Nakhon Phanom next month and just acquired a small dog, a shih tsu, phoned the Nakhon Phanom Riverview hotel and no dogs allowed regardless size

BKKstan, how do you travel with your dog, also a small one I thought?
Hate to leave him with friends, although there is a dog lover farang in the village, we would rather take him with us.
we also plan a one week trip to Ko Chang, you recommended a hotel there, dog friendly?
How do find dog friendly hotels, if any?
And flying by plane is even more difficult and expensive from some research I did on the internet.
Found some airline who ask 100 usd/euro domestic and 200 international!!!

Thalenoi, Not quite the same,But FORGET about travelling by Plane,I Brought My Dog ( A Pedigree Corgi ) from the UK when we came over 14 years ago,The o/w Airfare for Myself & Wife were 160.00 gbp BUT for " Holly " it was MORE than DOUBLE that at 350.00 gbp,Had ALL The Vet's Certificates,BUT on arrival at Don Muang "Holly " was taken to Cargo & we had to go to an office were there were 4 " Gentlemen " Who Demanded 20,000 Baht each to sign various forms to allow Holly into Thailand......My Wife ( Thai ) asked what would happen IF we did'nt pay this TEA MONEY,And they just said The Dog will stay at the Airport and eventually Die !!! ( Ruthless Bas*ards ) Of Course I paid These GENTLEMEN their Whiskey /Tea Money ( No Reciepts given ) and we were allowed to go through.......Finally a nice gesture by TG They did NOT charge me a single baht to fly Holly from Bkk to Uth =D> =D> =D> .But a Sad end Holly did Die some 2 years after arrival,with a Blood Disease :-& :-&

Our travels have been restricted drastically because our dog is our baby and we go where it can go!We never leave her with anyone!

It is not unusual to find most hotels opposed to animals and I can respect that.Easier to find resturants ,but sometimes that is difficult to!

There is a guest house in Hua Hin that is dog friendly,I have not stayed there because we have a relative in Cha am.I have not been to Koh Chang since we had the dog,but I doubt if the Alina would be dog friendly!
There is a guest house on the Mekong in Chiang Kahn that is friendly and we have stayed there twice.

When we go to Bangkok ,we stay at a friends house and the same for Korat.

As I said before ,our traveling has been fairly resticted between the dog and the daughters schooling,but we all have priorities to adapt to!

Happy to hear you got another dog,Shih Tzus are really loving and easily trained.

Calling guest houses in area that you want to travel to,would be my suggestion.Good Luck!

People have different reactions to dogs depending on the culture or predjudices.

We put our dog above most people in importance,So if the owner of a business objects we respect that,individuals and their shows or signs of disapproval can go funk themselves,we pay our own freight and can do w/o them in our lives!
Our dog is kept cleaner than many people and is better manner than many people also!

We never take public transportation with her!

We have also stayed in some Thai ''resorts'',like small American motels,where they have seperate cabins and never had a problem!Usually,we just pull in for overnight stays and don't mention the dog!

Some of the hotel/resort booking sites have a search option, and quite frequently "Animal friendly" is one of the options you can select.

Aah, don't you just love Thai bureaucrats. Of course, they wouldn't have let your pedigree doggie die, but would've have sold him for big bucks because he was a Ma Farang. No consolation to you though.

No offence chaps but I thought it would've been nigh on impossible to get your pooch into a hotel because of Thai cultural attitudes to dogs. Obviously not, though.

My girlfriend and I have been invited to a glamorous weekend house party. However, it looks as if we will have to turn it down because we can’t take my girlfriend’s shih tzu, as the hosts have various cats and large dogs that they will insist are incompatible with our little chap. Everyone says to put him in kennels, but he was traumatised almost to death when we did that in the summer. As we have only recently moved house, we don’t feel we know the neighbours well enough to ask them to take him in. Is there anything you’d suggest?

Besides, almost impossible to have a pet put down in Thailand. I dunno about the truck full of dogs that travels up/down road here in paddyland. Wife says they "buy" unwanted dogs and take them to Sakhon Nakhon. They will give you a bucket for a dog.

Back to topic. We don't like to leave our house unattended when we make our trips so we're fortunate that we have reliable relatives to take care of our pets (two dogs, two cats and fish aquarium) and the house. Hardly a worry when we're away but wife calls back to check on them everyday anyway.

travelling with dog many times (big golden retriver) Normaly hotels say no. bongalows or smaller resorts don't got a problem.
But what if NOT TAKEING THE DOG on holiday..!!!!!!!

Hard to find somebody to take care of him.....
Thai people take it very easy about a dog. (tryed that and when I picked him up I found him in the street)
Feel sorry to leave him at a vet where they put him/lock him in a small cage.

Doesn't sound like you have much choice.Either find someone or place to board him(something that I am not able or willing to do),forget your trip or take a trip that puts you in places where you can have the dog with you(that is what we do,although very limiting)!
Being a responsible caring pet owner is not always easy,nor,IMO, are there that many people that really care enough!
