You can get your Chimay, Westvleteren, and Leffe from any good beer distrubutor in any of the 50 States, and Hoegaarden and Wife-Beater are now as common as tap water in the States, so there's no need to reinvent the wheel.
That, I would not doubt, as they would be available in most countries of the world (including some in Thailand ).The beers that I refer to as Belgian beers are the Trappist and micro brew beers, not the International (Interbrew) mass produced beers, which are, in general a fairly "watered down" version of their intended style so as to suit a larger number of personal tastes throughout the world.
This is starting to make me yearn for one of my regular trips to the Brugsbeertje or T'Oostendes beerhouse
What I'd give now for a nice FFlorefe Millieure, Corsendonk Pater, or even a La Chouffe or Grimbergen Optimo ......... haven't tasted one for 5 years

Belgian beer is for poofters. Last I saw in the US, people were serving it with fruit in it and I don't mean a slice of lime like they insist in sticking in watery Mexican piss. Just look at the names of the crap for chrisakes! Show us your La Chouffe!
Bottled Nigerian Guinness..... you gotta be kiddin' me. That's just watered down treacle. Guinness needs to be drinked through a head of at least half an inch. You should stick to the bottled sh!te because if you think that a headless draft beer is all about saving you money, you are missing the plot.

Americans getting the taste for Chang...
John Lennon...the president of Chang US...Imagine..that.New York, N.Y. (PRWEB) March 10, 2009 -- Chang Beer, the No. 1 selling beer in Thailand, has bucked the premium U.S. import trend in 2008 with a 140 percent increase in case volume in the U.S. in 2008. During 2008, sales of super-premium imported beer brands declined 3.4 percent in the recessionary environment, and sales of Asian beers were off 9.8 percent. This makes Chang among the fastest growing imports in the U.S., and by far the fastest growing of all Asian beer imports.
T
John Lennon, president of Chang U.S. importer New York City-based International Beverage USA, said that Chang Beer case volume more than doubled in 2008, and shipments in each quarter exceeded the previous quarter and the same quarter year ago. He also noted that depletions have risen progressively with each succeeding quarter since the U.S. launch of Chang in July 2007.
Lennon credits Chang's impressive growth performance in the U.S. to two things: a superior tasting, award-winning product and a committed sales and distribution network whose customers are passionate and enthusiastic about Chang. Chang Beer is now available through 60 distributors in 22 states, with an additional eight states to be added by end of Q1 2009.
"Chang is no doubt one of the finest tasting beers in the world. This was underscored for us in 2008 by Chang winning two international gold medals at the prestigious Beverage Testing Institute 2008 World Beer Championships and the MONDE SELECTION Bruxelles - World Selection of Quality," said Lennon. "But the real vote of confidence in Chang came from Chang consumers who, based on our strong depletion numbers, love the beer and are pleased to have it available in the U.S."
Chang Beer is an extremely smooth, crisp and full-bodied premium 100 percent malt lager and is the perfect accompaniment to flavorful Asian cuisine. Golden honey in color, Chang has a complex aroma - a smoky, peaty blend of sweet green apples and vanilla - and a beautifully balanced flavor which is crisp, smooth and incredibly refreshing. It successfully combines the flavor of a full bodied beer with light citrus notes which perfectly complement the exotic tastes and textures of Thai and Asian cuisine.
Lennon said the commitment of his sales team and distributors to carry out its rollout plan aggressively in 2008 put Chang in a position to build volume. Per plan, Chang is now available in more than 2,200 Thai and Asian Fusion restaurants, which represents some 72 percent of its targeted restaurants. Lennon noted that an impressive 97 percent of these locations are branded with Chang POS. Chang is now distributed in 22 key states, which represents 75 percent of imported beer sales.
Lennon noted that Chang is now available for sale in nearly 2,000 off-premise retail locations, including several major grocery chains throughout the western U.S. He expects off-premise accounts to grow in 2009 and that Chang will be available at more non-Thai/Asian on-premise locations.
For more information about Chang Beer, contact John Lennon, president of International Beverage USA, 60 East 42nd Street, Suite 2134, New York, NY 10165, tel. ......-3807, and visit the Web site changbeer.com to learn more about this super premium import.

Give me Timothy Taylors Landlord anytime.
The first time I tried Beer Laos I was impressed, the last time (Christmas) I was very much disappointed it had lost its taste and found a lot of gas.....shame it was a very good brew.
What's the brew place like in Koen Khen?

Not being a big beer drinker,I did develop a fondness for a ''ice cold''Beer Lao a couple of years ago.Enough to enjoy a can or 2 at home with an ocassional meal! But somewhere along the line,it seems to me.the taste of the Beer Lao changed so much that I don't like it anymore!
I wonder if it is me or if they changed the product??

Re: Beer Lao Dark
I don't think it is you Stan. As with most things in the beer world, even a slight change in the way it is produced can change the taste. Beer Lao have now opened a second brewery due to the increased demand. Even if they use all the same ingredients, the chances are that the water source will be different. They have probably also had to change various mixes (hops etc;) to cope with the increased demand.BKKSTAN wrote:Not being a big beer drinker,I did develop a fondness for a ''ice cold''Beer Lao a couple of years ago.Enough to enjoy a can or 2 at home with an ocassional meal! But somewhere along the line,it seems to me.the taste of the Beer Lao changed so much that I don't like it anymore!

Re: Beer Lao Dark
I guess there's also the taste difference between bottled and canned beer to consider. I am working my way through a case of 24 cans of regular Beer Lao acquired on my last trip; expiration is in July so no need for speed drinking yet. Tastes OK and I prefer it Aussie-style; in a glass from the freezer. However, I understand that bottled versions of (any) beer has a longer shelf life. This true? I also recall while working in the outback of Australia, bottled beer that had been frozen and thawed out again was avoided by the aficionados as undrinkable, no matter how hot it had been on the drill rig that day. They could see a bluish sheen on the brown glass of the stubbies that told them it was 'frozen piss' and best avoided.
Re: Beer Lao Dark
Stan,Same as when they first briught out " Black Beer "( Beer Dum here in Thailand) it was a VERY Pleasant drink,BUT IMO after a while they changed the taste, and loads of people stopped buying /drinking it,SO They ceased production.....BKKSTAN wrote:Not being a big beer drinker,I did develop a fondness for a ''ice cold''Beer Lao a couple of years ago.Enough to enjoy a can or 2 at home with an ocassional meal! But somewhere along the line,it seems to me.the taste of the Beer Lao changed so much that I don't like it anymore!
