An interesting idea!China seeks export carbon relief
Up to one-quarter of China's carbon emissions come from exports
China has proposed that importers of Chinese-made goods should be responsible for the carbon dioxide emitted during their manufacture.

i nearly fell of my chair with laughter when i read that - what they going to do, pack a little bit of their pollution in a crisp packet and send it with each exported item - so when the receiving country gets their goods they not only have their chinese import but a little pack of pollution that comes with it?

No, I think it would be a case of the purchaser/importer pays extra to cover the costs of the pollution generated in making the product!

Re: China's carbon emissions - importers should responsible
Uumm typical capitalist ploy.
Destroy the competition by producing cheaper than anyone else, then find "reasons" for price increases.
The world should be very proud how far China have come....

I think it is measured by a carbon footprint..... I agree with BH they have followed the western business model now they will show us how to do it..? it cannot be any worse than the biggest polluter at least they are doing something positive.

As Khun Old-timer points out, this is very, very funny.
On the other hand, it is also very ironic. Here is this former target of western capitalists, a communist state, about to outdo the capitalists, and perhaps in the not too distant future become the most powerful country on earth.

You see, other nations are introducing taxes/fines to their industries that spew out the heaviest amounts of pollution, probably on some sort of pro rota scale, to encourage them to find new, cleaner ways to make their products.
According to the report in the OP, China are only concerned with the cost implications and intend to just pass them on. Will they hang around until another nation has invested billions and come up with cleaner energy solutions and eco-friendly ways to make their products, and then, as the chinese do, copy it?

Good question OT, some say they have already been offered the latest Technology available but opted for the cheaper option. I fear the Chinese still think the West is trying to screw them even when it's obvious we're trying to help.old-timer wrote:You see, other nations are introducing taxes/fines to their industries that spew out the heaviest amounts of pollution, probably on some sort of pro rota scale, to encourage them to find new, cleaner ways to make their products.
