2009, official Songkhran is 13-15 April.... I suppose that means you get buckets of water f**ked over you from Sunday 12th to Friday 17th...

Hey, I know and you know it's all over on 15th , but to those little kids up the soi's it's not over till that little diaphram thingee breaks in there water gun...believe me Al ,if you think you can walk to Robinsons in your edible undies without getting them disolved by water on the 16th you go....garentee you wont make it out of your drive-way until at least 17th.....

My first blog on this forum, so, please be forgiving.

Had a look at the facilities of the Charoen Hotel at sawadee.com
pics look good. Reviews are good also.

What's the Flamingo cocktail lounge like; a formal place , or, a beer bar type environment?

Is the Charoen karaoke strictly karaoke, or, something like the infamous Cleos at the Sofitel in Kohn Kaen - a place that I happen to like BTW

Well don't think you will need a suit and tie..., and if you had a look at the promo photos on their website they are a little dated, and welcome to the forum toscanini.

you may want to look at some other accomodation options on this site before booking. not sure if charoen would be on my list of places to stay. their pool isn't that big, if that is a requirement, tho will cool you off. also wouldn't bother eating there, well the buffets anyway.

1000 baht rate, probably better if book direct. Irish Clock for 850, very nice, inc 1 brekkie or credit of to your choice. would be my choice for that price range, but no pool.

haven't got a clue about the lounge, but lots of options in town. will you be playing single or have family/friend with you. plenty available less expensive, if wanting, of closer to main shopping/restaruant area, tho charoen is also a short walk, a km or less away. no need for transport.

continue checking out the accomodation section, good luck, enjoy and let us know if actually wanting something from internet. maybe cheaper if booked locally, i/we or little lady can ring up and ask. 8)

If you do stay at the Charoen better to book in at the newer wing on the left called the Charoen Botanical.
Dont know about the Flamingo cocktail lounge but they have the Yellow Bird disco that includes a live band,a decent outdoor restaurrant plus the karaoke.
The Charoen is not bad but Udon lacks a really decent hotel like the Sofitel.
Agree with la on the Irish Clock....nice rooms for 850 baht which includes 100 baht credit for breakfast, also well situated for bars in the vicinity.

Thanks guys', your advice is much appreciated.

waza; personally never go with what 'friends' say , but , I'll probably try the Charoen karaoke, not for the singing, but for any similarities to Cleo's in Khon Kaen.

Will report back on this forum, however, really don't expect it to be similar to Cleo's , else , that news would be all over the internet.
