Don't expect too much.
If the stores in BKK are anything to go by, they will sell virtually the same items as Tesco lotus, and charge about B1-B2 more.
Like the website ......... you click on the Union Jack to get it in English ....... look at the map to find out where it is, and find it is located on a road with a Thai Name (No number) about 1 (something) from a junction that leads to somewhere that has planes. So assuming it is South of Udon (map drawn with North at the bottom), I think we can safely assume it is either 1) out past the airport on route 210 towards Nong Bua Lamphu, OR 2) somewhere past the air base on or near Route 2 towards Khon Kean.
I think their publicity manager and Web manager will not be in a job for very long

I was in their store in Pattaya last week. Not only was I impressed by the goods, especially fresh meat, cheeses and of course, the delicious range of breads available, but compared to the competitors currently in Udon, they were so cheap. Although I had no intention too. I actually filled the car up with produce to bring back.My wife commented"This will make the other two superstores sit up"
For our American cousins. They had a Sub sandwich shop in the complex as well.

Yes, their store in Pattaya is excellent and well laid out.
I think we will have to be patient, it may take them awhile before they are 100% and up to speed. For example, some of franchises at the Pattaya store, IE: Subway and the N.Y. Style Pizza place didn't appear at the Pattaya location for a year or more after they opened.

I'm a big Fan of Carrefour, despite the French origins, we had one close to us in BKK and I only ever shopped there. As previously mentioned the best bread products out of them all, the Croissants Yum.
Don't get your hopes up for Branstons, OXO cubes, Marmite etc, Its easier to get a mate to bring them from the UK and waaaay cheaper.

Re: Carrefour Udon Thani
In Bangkok the cheese was always that French rubbish or the same Aussie/Kiwi stuff that Tesco do.
Re: Carrefour Udon Thani
A whole counter devoted to cheeses. Must have been a 100 or more. fresh to, not shrink wrapped. The continental meats selection included many English favourite. Can't say I noticed the sauces. Too busy scoffing the apple tarts.mortiboy wrote:trubrit wrote:I was in their store in Pattaya last week. agree, a fresh break from anything else i've seen, except gourmet markets, and they're a bit upscale (location location location) on many things, but amazing selection.Yes, their store in Pattaya is excellent and well laid out.

Re: Carrefour Udon Thani
I sure do hope you guys are right about Carrefour, coz my visits so far have all been a waste of time.
Having read so many good comments in the past, and had so many glowing reviews from ex patters guys, I have made special trips to Carrefour on my last three Bangkok runs.
I have saved my pennies, and taken a big cold box with me each time.
The grand sum of my purchases ........... 4 lemons.
Think I'll wait and see if they can be bothered to bring anything worthwhile up to Udon before I get all excited
Hope their carefully chosen opening date doesn't turn out to be an April fools trick on everyone

Re: Carrefour Udon Thani
Both their Pattaya and Phuket locations are located in high density farang areas. Hence, the abundance of Western food products available in the grocery section and concessions such as Subway and the New York Style Pizza.
I have been told they will have a farang manager. It might be up to us to let him know what items we would like to see at the Udon location.Think I'll wait and see if they can be bothered to bring anything worthwhile up to Udon before I get all excited

Re: Carrefour Udon Thani
Just back from the grand opening. Literally every one was there , in many instances complete with Grannie and all the kids. The car park was bursting at the seems. The main road, cars were parked both sides for a mile in each direction. Yet in spite of this the manager and his staff coped very well. The trolleys ran out, but immediately a smiling young lady went and found one for me. Many farangs were noticable, some from the forum. Saw Pop Pops, Rito and Gay. Later on the way out met Git.Made my way straight to the bakery. Glad to say it looked as good as the one I mentioned last week in Pattaya. Whilst I was looking at all the delicious pastries the French sticks all disappeared, sold out. New batch due at 13 hrs. So went to the meat then the cheese counters. Having filled the trolley with them, went to look at the wine and spirits. What a selection. Every spirit you could think of and the wines, well, a lover of the grapes would be in heaven, They had at least 50 types from around the world all below the 500bht price barrier. Especially for Jingjai. They had about 10 different malt whiskey, including my favourite Glenmorangie Sherry Wood, all around 2,000bht.
Now back home , going to have a nice red wine, some French sticks and some German and Italian salami for lunch. Got to go now, but Carrefour, I will be back.

Re: Carrefour Udon Thani
The place was packed ,the first floor was just a disco noise of sales staff yelling through the loud speakers, went straight through to the Bakery section, only to see a long face Val telling me that there were no crispy bread rolls, brought some fruit, a Big Mac Burger and went home to relax, to much for one days work

What are the hours?
Re: Carrefour Udon Thani
HEY, whoever was looking for cous cous they've got it there...83bt a box.
Wife, myself and some cripple hanging with us checked it out this afternoon. First thing I noticed was the selection of electronic merchandise, very large selection as oppose to Tesco & Big C. Also impressed with the imported food selection. Saw real maple syrup, a good selection of tortilla chips, cous cous, the ready made pastas like ravioli, frozen pizza and even caviar. Wish we had more time to browse and shop, but difficult to take it all in with hordes of people with no trolley or aisle etiquette.

Didn't see any, but didn't really get a chance to really browse. They do carry both Dantes & El Charo tortilla chips.jingjai wrote:Yeah! Hey! Yo dude...! BTW Rito. Did you see any Mexican food products? IE: tortillas?
Happy to read that Carrefour is living up to all our expectations.
Think I'll also wait until next week....it will be more enjoyable in a few days...
Not Mexican, but a couple of other things that come to mind are feta cheese and Miller Genuine Draft beer (not my taste, but somebody out there might like MGD).
Re: Carrefour Udon Thani
So, Is there a McDonalds there then???
Could someone confirm please

Re: Carrefour Udon Thani
Sorry missed this one. On the board outside it said" 9.00am- 23.00 . every day.Haven't put it to the test yet so remember this is Thailand. Also on the big sign it does have a McDonalds logo, but I can't say I saw the shop.It is early days yet and there appear to be a lot of undeveloped units, and a lot of obviously temporary ones , on the ground floor. For those with kids. There is also a the Udon Thani Education Centre.Looked quite interesting and at the time a display of Taekwando by youngsters , all less than 10, was being given by the WTF.Very impressive.polehawk wrote:Seems that this one got trampled in the rush. Anyone know?mak wrote:What are the hours?
Guess will wait until novelty wears off a bit before checking it out. No Big Macs? Oh well, Harry's Bar isn't too far down the road from this place.
A large food hall. with all the usual, buy a voucher and choose your own stuff available, surprisingly on such a busy day, I still found a table. There was also a stand selling draft Singha, complete with promotion lady, by the jug 169bht.
In case you overspend, as I did. Plenty of ATM 's around and 3 major banks are in the process of opening sub branches there.
Possibly going again tomorow. Hopefully it will be less hectic and will be able to leisurely look around more.
