thai tolerance
songkran is just around the corner, and who would have believed that it's gone from this -
thailand is being abused.
personally speaking - thailands tolerance is overwhelming!

Re: thai tolerance
I wouldn't bash your gums too much about it O-T, it's just a bit of fun....
.....except when the little Blighters use freezing water.
Bah humbug

Re: thai tolerance
Has anyone spent Songkran in Burma, Laos or Cambodia to give an idea of the way the traditional festival might have evolved in those countries compared to Thailand?

Re: thai tolerance
I spent it in Phitsanulok last year and it was very genteel. Lovely.

Re: thai tolerance
So Marmite, I'm guessing no one threw a bucket of water in your face as you were driving your motorcycle down the road? I got this treatment in Udon last year and there was ice cubes in the water!!

Re: thai tolerance
In the village, we rode around on mopeds and stopped at each 'station', where they would dab a bit of powder on our cheeks and pour some water gently over us (usually on the shoulder). The worst of the bunch, was a young man who asked me if I wanted a young lady to play with (or was he the best of the bunch?).
In P'Lok Town I saw people walking behind the revellers being completely unmolested.
I was very impressed.

Re: thai tolerance
It really was nice, but as a foreigner, you may not be able to escape a spot of water if you're in the town.
Re: thai tolerance
It will be a very different experience at Nam Prajak or just about anywhere else in Udon

Re: thai tolerance
The one time of year I donlt ride my bike. To dangerous get a face full of water then your on six hundred pounds of rolling steel and yuo can't see. You hit someone your probably going to kill them. We usually take the pickup out and let them soak that.
Re: thai tolerance
PK 5 last year was deserted during Songkran. No noisy workers, no partying neighbors, even the dogs seemed to have disappeared someplace. It was bliss for a few days.
Re: thai tolerance
I have been in NK for 5 songkrons and I have yet to see anybody with Ice cubes in their water. It seems to me that people are looking for those they know the splash back and forth. We drove through a couple of years and watch a lot of water spread around, seldom on us.The people seemed very respectful without any ''dangerous'' activity noted!
I have this idea that songkron behavior is a great way to determine the kind of community of people you live amongst.I find most people, here in NK, very respectful and therefore they are very respectful in their songkron celebrations!

Re: thai tolerance
Can anyone tell me how long it lasts in Udon and the dates
Re: thai tolerance
Official dates are from April 13 - 15 (Mon-Wed) but Udon? Probably kick it off on Fri or Sat and peter off by the 15th. My guess. Forget traveling by bus, train or plane. Booked solidly. Could drive but mayhem on the highways during that period. It's a fun time, tho.
Re: thai tolerance
i hope the streets are not deserted by the time i get there on the 25th
Re: thai tolerance
Thanks for that polehawk
