watch out for the police map ref R15

Post by pompui » November 19, 2008, 7:15 pm

At the moment if you are coming into town from Big C, at the traffic lights for the turning to Soi Nong Bua,the police are stopping cars further up on the left going into town that failed to stop when the lights are turning red.As these lights do not have a countdown section,it is easy to be going through when the lights change. As the police do not want to hear any excuse you could be fined 400 baht.
Luckily the police are corrupt and are accepting 200 baht for you to be on your way.
Just a warning to slow down when nearing these lights, have seen the police here nearly everyday and it is easy money for them to save for their mianoys at the moment. [-X
The police ,by the way, do get a cut from how many tickets they do issue but ,as we are all aware,200 baht straight in their pockets is quicker and more plentiful than waiting for the limited extra money to come in their salaries at the end of the month.

Well they had to do something to replace their lost revenue as they have been told not to fine students riding motorbikes without license or helmet but to take their name and details of their school for the school authorities to punish them.

I've observed many of the students being stopped in front of the Vocational College =P~ . I'd like to step up and be the first to volunteer to meat out some of the "punishment". ;)

to be perfectly honest , im happy to see the police doing something at long last , that actually enhances road safety , kids without helmets only put themselves at risk , light jumpers put everyone at risk !!!! i would love to see them on the 211 and eastern ringroad intersection , i use that road daily and its guarenteed that someone if not 2 will jump the lights , and they are flying when they go through on red . so if the police read this , get your arses out there and earn some serious doe , and maybe save a few lives in the process .

The police are still stoppping and fining every student butt just away up from Rajhabat.

If you get pulled over on a bike yourself, pretend that you're French and that you speak zero English beyond Zee, I, ur, don't speak, ur 'ow do you zay, English.

Hold face for less than 2 minutes, and they'll usually tell you to piss off [in Thai, of course].

The police are about it full force this afternoon booking motorbike riders without helmets. I was driving behind a couple of girls without helmets and out popped a policeman from the side of the road, they slowed down but then decided to make a run for it to avoid the fine. In the blink of en eye the policeman grabbed the arm of the girl knocking them both off their bike and sending them both crashing to the floor. The policeman, smiling from ear to ear, moved the broken bike to the side of the road whilst the two girls picked themselves up and limped off to await their ticket.

A dangerous tactic...but everyone knows the score by now...they took their chances and it did not pay off...bet they still do not wear a helmut.

You can't escape the LONG arm of the law. :D

The only time I've seen someone drive past a stop point he managed to swerve around the policeman waiting along the road.

Sorry ya all.... my 1st post. Maybe my last ](*,)

But I couldn't pass this without putting in my 2 cents.

To me it's unimaginable that anyone in their right mind thinks it's OK for police to kick, grab a riders arm, or otherwise force an motorbike accident in order to give a ticket. Sure they deserve one, but come on guys, that's just way over-the-top. Nobody deserves that !!!

Thanks for reading. I'll craw back under my rock now

Well I just hope they undertook a valid risk assessment before jumping out onto the highway to kick out at moving motorbikes. Have Health and Safety been informed that this foolhardiness is being carried out?

I am inclined to agree with you and had the accident been fatal - would the policeman been in court for manslaughter as he deliberately forced the accident

Is it too difficult to have a second officer 100 metres further down the road for those who think they can run for it past the first ?

We have a long way to go...........

Ah you are putting a farang slant on a Thai problem does not work, kicking a motorbike is better than shooting at it, which I have seen.
Most bikes are going slow so the possiblke injury is slight but if they have no helmets then they are the foolish ones ( the riders).
I do not condone but just maybe jai dee is no longer working and about time too, I am fed up with being cut up, moving over and having to be careful cos the Stupid, uncaring, selfish, unqualified and unlicensed motorbike rider thinking that they can do what they want and if they have an accident it is ALWAYS someone else's fault.

it is a stupid thing to do...maybe a spur of the moment reaction, but thats what it took to stop them, if me working the stops ..i would have a few men dotted around at each end of the Soi/Road no escape, a few might slip through the net, the riders in question could of easly hit their head on the road/car/post (No Helmut) and had internal bleeding (wazza..)..and could of been in trouble a few hours down the road health wise..if me on the bike don't think i would run for it being so close to the police...up ahead...yeah you got plenty time to do a Ut, also it don't matter wether the rider has a shinning helmut or not...most still cut you up and drive bad and are selfish road users...tit....and will never change ever..!!! you just got to adapt, the girl in this case will do the same and same again, there is no teaching some.

Another example, Pops video(from outside his shop) he posted ..a bike doing a turn from cops...crashed it.. #-o everyday occurrence i suspect.

Hi,
"Is it to difficult to have another officer 100m down the road," When the rider goes passed him have a third and a forth etc. etc. until the rider runs out of fuel. How far are you willing to go before you run out of police. If people break the law they should pay. This is not the UK where the guilty gets support and the innocent get nothing. Also the lights do not suddenly go to Red, there is the Amber colour in between. But it etill means nothing to many Thias. Been waiting at lights they have turned green for at least five seconds and there are still drivers going the other way on red. I say book the lot for going through a red light but fined them 10,000B min. first offence.
Cheers Doug.

Agree with the Red light....i would put more effort into light jumpers than the Helmut situation....and i bet more money would come in too....and as a bonus bag a few helmut less riders in the process....but up to them.
Wonder how those cameras are performing in certain parts of bangers.

Hmm...so if you break to law by riding without a helmet (BM - note spelling :D ), you should pay by potentially having a bad prang because a copper pushes you off your bike, with no thought (or perhaps no interest) as to the consequences.

Somewhat disproportionate I would imagine.
