Airport security pulled the muslim in front of me for extra security screening. That was a good experience.

Re: Good experiences with Muslims from non Muslims
Well, one of my best friends at the high school where I teach is a Muslim from Sri Lanka. We talk about everything and poke fun at one another without any rancour.
During Ramadan, when he fasts, he does not mind me advising him to become an Anglican atheist like me so he does not have to go through silly rituals such as fasting. I also tell him that life would be easier for him if he got a statue of the Buddha to pray to rather than get on his hands and knees to pray to nothing.
I like to tell him that Mohammed might be a Muslim, but God is an Englishman.
When he separated his shoulder slipping on ice, he did not mind me telling him this is because the Christian God was exacting revenge for him being a non-believer and following the wrong faith.
At the university there is a young Muslim lady who often seeks my advice on some of the personal problems she has had/is having with her former boyfriend, and whether she acted correctly in dumping him.
Back to the high school, one of the young ladies is from Iran, and likes to joke about her drinking and so on. Last weekend, for example, one of her friends took photos of her throwing up and ending up sleeping in the kitty litter. She does not believe in sharia law.
In London, England years ago, I met Muslims (women) from the Sudan and Saudi Arabia who were well-informed, interesting and very beautiful.
This is not to say that there are not fanatic Muslims out there because, obviously, there are, but I have not run into any yet.
I lived in Malaysia for over a month and had no problems with Chinese, Indians or Malays be they followers of Confucius, the Buddha, or Mohammed.

Re: Good experiences with Muslims from non Muslims
You're a brave man lighspur1 with this new topic. Anyway, where i work in London, our workforce is very diverse, and so you come across all religions and all different people from around the world, and i got to be fair, there is no problems at all with any group of work colleagues. I never have had any problems with muslim work colleagues, in fact one fella was among my favourite person to work with.
While many work colleagues notice the lovliest female customers coming through the station, some work colleagues noticing the lovliest male customers too of course, this muslim guy kept out of the enthusiasm shown by most of us! He is a honourable man, very much a family man, above all, the perfect Gentleman! He was able to talk about his religious beliefs, his local mosque, and i really enjoyed his company. Sadly he has transferred to another station, but he was a really nice chap, and by the by was muslim.
I don't want to be negative but, there is another muslim chap in the ticket office who gets many complaints most shifts. With him, what you see is what you get, everything is black and white, However, still a good family man, with a beautiful daughter that no-one could believe was his, (i have the same problem when colleagues see my daughters too!), and well, he's just part of the staff. So, the good experience i suppose is muslim, non muslim, doesn't matter, all work together okay!

Not quite what I was looking for when I started the thread. Any stories of how one stopped and fixed you car when you was broke down or offered you ride, gave more from a bussiness deal than you was expecting. Let you in front of him at the grocery becouse he had 100 items and you just had 2. Just going the extra mile to help a person or a stranger from a Muslim to a non Muslim. True Stories like that are what I'm looking for. Muslims were getting a bad rap on another thread and my own experiences with them aren't exactly endearing. Just wanted to hear from the other side of the coin.

Don't think you are going to get many stories like that.

Re: Good experiences with Muslims from non Muslims
Let's get some definition into this please.
If somebody does a good turn for you, how do you tell what religion they are? After all, not all Muslims are "ragheads".
Thanks for confirming your prejudices ms

If they don't know them to be Muslim then hopefully they wouldn't post it, as that would be off topic. If somebody does a good turn for you, how do you tell what religion they are? After all, not all Muslims are "ragheads".
Re: Good experiences with Muslims from non Muslims
I have posted it before, but I will repeat it on this thread!
I lived in a Muslim neighborhood ,in Bangkok, during 9/11!It was ,by far,the friendliest neighborhood that I have ever experienced in Thailand!
And I will never forget finding out about 9/11 from my Muslim neighbors that were so ashamed that Muslims were involved as reported by the media!
Their attempts to give me free services and apologies will forever be remembered as will their honesty and general friendly neighborness will be always fondly remembered!

Stan thank you for that post it only proves that all people of any religion or race can not be evil animals
like they are trying to paint muslims. it like saying all Germans are evil because in WW2 they did not take prisoners because it was cheaper to kill them then to feed them and house them

Re: Good experiences with Muslims from non Muslims
unless i personally know someone, meaning grew up with them, i wouldn't have a clue to what faith anyone is, unless i actually got into a conversation with them about religion, which frankly, never interest me, so doubtful that will come up in conversation. so sorry, no stories of muslim or non muslim good or bad, sure i know a few, just don't know it. just don't care. i think most people i know are atheist, i'm a really sh*tty christian, or possible not even, and just agnostic. the only thing i'm sure about religion, is i haven't got a clue, and too many have died in the name of some F'g idiot's god.
no matter what religion people say they are, i think most do a pretty piss poor job of being religious. a bunch of hypocritical A-holes if you ask me. most can't get past their version of the 10 commandments and are always confessing or praying for forgiveness. or worst, praying for guidance from someone they know nothing about, some total stranger who they keep asking for stuff, and never get, think i'd stop asking.
hmm......
that was fun, i did mention, at best, i was a sh*tty christian, who probably doesn't believe in christ, so i think i need a new term. i hope there is a god and heaven, if so, he/she has a piss poor sense of humor and can be a downright a-hole at times. heaven would be nice, but not holding my breath, if this world is any indication of how good god works. i'll just have to continue to try making my heaven here, just in case. already been to hell, that sucks, so i hope that isn't in my future.

Re: Good experiences with Muslims from non Muslims
Interesting thread. Wonder how many have actually lived and worked in a Muslim country?
I worked in Iran for a couple of years back when the Shah was still in power and I got the chance to get to know some Muslims. My impression was that there were good/bad, just like any other group of people, and they believed strongly in their religion. One had to always be careful not to offend their beliefs. I remember reading in the Tehran newspaper about an Iranian female movie star who was stoned because she appeared in public without wearing the traditional chador or veil while she was making a film in Qom, a strict Muslim city. Also remember seeing a crowd of men beating themselves about the shoulders and back during a parade in the city of Ahwaz around the time of Ramadan. Westerners were warned to keep a low profile and not to take pictures. In general, I would say that the people there were more honest than people in other countries that I have visited over the years. Never had anything stolen or even heard about a burglary while I was there.
In one of my jobs, we visited small villages and gendarmerie (police) posts along the Iraqi border and Persian Gulf to install communications equipment. In most of these poor villages the people insisted on serving us simple meals of rice, vegetables with sheep/lamb meat or chicken even though we brought along our own food or c-rations. We were always being served hot glasses of tea. They refused any offers of payment and gave the impression that they were gracious and generous people. Our assigned gendarmerie counterparts all spoke good English and it was a friendly and enjoyable work environment. I would like to visit Iran again someday to see the changes and the places that never change like Persepolis, 2500 years old.

Re: Good experiences with Muslims from non Muslims
I have spent time in malaysia, where they are basically all muslims!! Just normal people with good and bad the same as western countries... They do have a strong sense of pride and they do have strange religious beliefs etc.. They have good familly values unlike a lot of western countries, they have a strong history and tradition. They certainly aint bad, vicious, hating monsters that some people believe...
Re: Good experiences with Muslims from non Muslims
There is a Mosque here, I believe it is on Sri Chomchun Rd.i'm a muslim! Is there any muslims over there @ Udon Thani! OR muslim schools? Restaurants!
Restaurants? I only wish.
One of my favorite restaurants in Bkk. is a Lebanese place. Is Lebanese cuisine considered Muslim food?
Anyway, whenever I have dined at a Middle Eastern restaurant, whether it be located in Bkk., Pattaya or Krabi, I have always been welcomed with cordiality.
What I wouldn't give for a good Schwarma (ke-bob) sandwich .
