jimbo boric acid is very good insect killer or repellent since they do not want to walk in it burns there feet
so it could be a useful remedy here. the only problem I see is were can you buy it and how expensive will it be. some times the cost out weights the problem

I made some cookies last week.(Actually resulted more of cakes.Put in a plastic container, But the little blighters got into it.
When I opened the container, hundreds of ants!.......all dead! must be something in the recipe?

If you can put the plastic containers into the fridge.
In the past we've put table legs into small bowls within larger bowls of water.
The best results we've had locally/recently have been with the tiny pellets that you put into a plastic tray and leave near their runs. They carry those back to their nests where it wipes out the colony.
The chalk sticks do kill them, but only if they cross the line and only for a few day, or if it's outside until it rains.

The boric acid (powder) is excellent for all types of insects but it needs to go in an area that stays dry and is not accessable by pets or children. It is deadly to humans. Great for applying around the inside of foundation walls in crawl spaces.
