Boxing

Post by old-timer » May 2, 2009, 7:36 pm

Manny Pacquiao (Phillipine) fights Ricky Hutton (British) tonight at the MGM Grand Las Vegas. It's a complete sellout and anyone interested in boxing will enjoy watching this. Manny Pacquiao is the favourite and is a legend in his own country, after running away from home at the age of 12 because his dad ate his dog he has gone from being a street kid to top class boxer, he's put himself through college and has a masters degree, phillipino's are going as far as saying he could become the president.
Ricky is taking 15,000 british fans with him so it should be a right old knees up in Vegas tonight - I'm british so i'm backing the underdog, Ricky Hutton.

Undercard underway now on UBC/True Channel 63. Best guess is the main event will be about 10:30 am.

Manny a 2-1 favorite in Vegas. Hitman is the bigger man and, maybe, harder puncher. Throw away the Marquis Queensbury rules for this one, two battlers means toe-to-toe fight with maybe a few low blows, head butts and elbows.

Mayweather has already announced his comeback. A Manny-Mayweather fight in the fall? Or another chance for Ricky?

Unlucky ricky, im afraid you were a legend but today you looked an amateur, pacman just found it hard to miss your chin..... i wonder if theres been some skull duggery at play here with maywethers dad??? Just seemed like not the ricky hatton we all knew and loved or he had been trained to lose!!!! So his trainers son can have a easy comeback!!!!
Pacman was trained and prepared 100% to beat ricky hatton!!!

Seymourbutts, if you believe Mayweather Jr. will have an 'easy comeback' against Pacman, then I have some beachfront property in Arizona you might be interested in as well.

Personally, if this fight has ANY effect on Mayweather, it should be he knows he will have more than his hands full is he gets a shot at Pacman. The 'powers that be' haven't given Pacman the title of the 'Greatet Boxer of All Time' because they like his hair style.

I am no monday morning quarter backer but when I saw pacman drop the english kid I knew then were the winners corner will be and when he went down the second time in the same round well that was enough for me to know who was going to win. if I was Hatton I would forget about another title match that
Pacman is very good and just remember Hatten never went down until he met Pacman just some thing to think about

when you climb in to the ring to box a champ you better be 100% ready to get a good azz kicking
because you never know the out come until it to late. Champs earn there way to the TOP
and when they are there they are going to fight like hell to remain there there big money in boxing
my Father was a pro boxer he was a bantam weight and his was pretty good he use to train on the
heavy bag for knock out or TKO but he never made it to the TOP he got stopped a few times on the
way up I knew how hard he hit he gave me a few samples

Hatton's a bull in a China shop, not a boxer. ;)

Mayweather figured it out and now he's been exposed again. Pacquiao dismantled him in short order.

tex I don't disagree with you but I do want to say pacman must pack some punch to drop him 3 times in
2 rounds and the second round was not over. he certainly show what he got and the next boxer who want to try him out better be good & ready for a whipping. thinking back to Rocky Marciano who took
tremendous beating only to get that one punch and the fight was over BTW Rocky never lost a fight
in his entire Boxing career it took a plane crash to put him away

Ricky certainly got taken out in style. Lot of rumours persist over the US training camp run by Floyd Mayweather Snr - a shambles by all accounts. Still, a fighter of Hattons style usually doesn't do too well at this high a level after the age of 30 and with Ricky's well documented weight gain between fights due mainly to the booze - its no surprise that this happened against a quality operator like PacMan.

Floyd Mayweather is back soon fighting the very good but ageing (35) and lighter Juan Manuel Marquez. Ticket sales apparently not great.

Mayweather should be fighting other Welterweights like Paul Williams or Miguel Cotto but keeps looking outside of his own division rather than face the best. Pacquiao by the way is fighting Miguel Cotto next - credit to the man he has balls.

Our local boy Danny Green just won his latest fight in Mississippi against Argentine Julio Cesar Dominques by Knock out in the fifth round. This gives him his third World Title Belt, I believe only the second Aussie ever to achieve this. If Roy Jones jr wins his fight today against Jeff Lacey he says he will come down under to fight Green, probably in Sydney. Was wondering if anyone saw the fight as it was held at 9.00am this morning so nowhere was open to watch it ??

I watched it.Green looks relaxed and sharp.Hurt is oppenet in 3 different rounds. The other guy was game and got in a few surprising hard punches, but when Green hit him solid he went silly several times.
Jones fight is just starting now!
