Hi ,I have a very sore lower back.I`ve had this problem for a number of years(only occurs once a year or so) and its usually sorted by a couple of visits to a Chiropractor.Anybody know of one in Udon or a similar type muscular massage place.

There are not any chiropractors outside of Bangkok.If it is debillating,get some muscle relaxants,take a sleeper train to Bangkok.Otherwise,you might contact hospitals that have a Physical therapist that might be able to assist you.Acopuncture might be another possibility!

I found one in BKK some years ago. But beware. He was a farang and charged about 3 times what I normally pay here in the States.

You might find an "accupressure" massage in Udon. I knew one when I lived there and he fixed me up in 2 visits. He lived out on the Kut Chap Road, but that is all I can remember.

IMHO a good deep (real) Thai muscle massage on the lower back can do as good a job as a chiropractor. I have had back problems for many years and have found that this helps a lot and if needed do as BKKStan sugests and get some musle relaxers. But make sure you get from a doctor who is aware of any medical conditions, not just from the local drug store.

There are several in Bangkok!I lived their for 5 years!The most I ever paid was 1000 baht.If you decide to go,I will get you a contact number where you won't getted ripped off.I paid 600,then it went to 800,then 1000!

I tend to pull my back once in a while, very painful, literally stops me in my tracks.

Maybe a couple of years back, I got treatment at what I know as the 'Army Hospital' down the road from the Air Force Base. I was quite impressed. It seemed to be a specialist unit, rehab sort of thing and treatment not expensive. AND a few lovelies taking care too!

Thanks for all the replies.The Kutchap Rd one would be very handy as its where I live.Did he work from home or was it house/shop.I`ll have a look around with my wife shortly.Once again thanks for the info everyone and I`ll try the Army Hospital if i cant locate the Kut Chap Rd one.The pain going away and the lovelies seems like a very good mix.

also in bkk, Dr Oat, suk soi 38, very good, see him at least twice a year. if needing better info if planning on going, let me know. he is over 2 meter, buff, and can adjust with no problem.

Hi ,I finished up at the massage centre right next door to the Army Hospital.I think its also a training school for masseuse.If you exit the Army Hospital and take a left,its the next entrance on the left(at the end of the army hospital car park).I had a 2 and a 1/2 hour "massage" which was 100% the same as anything any Chiropractor has previously done.She spent 1.5 hrs on the specific place where the pain was.I`m not sure if this is where you meant Brian but I would highly recommend it for anyone with back pain who have previously used Chiropractors.200bt for 2 hrs and they weren`t going to charge extra for the 1/2 hour longer that it took.I paid 200bt and also gave a nice tip.6 mats in an open-plan area were always in use and mainly Thai custom which i think is a good indication.Its not for a nice leisurely massage,I`m sure there are many other places which cater for this but as I said for anyone with back pain or similar ,this place is as good any Chiropractor.Its busy though,I visited on Monday and got an appointment for Tuesday.If anyone wants the phone number please contact me and thanks again for the posts and suggestions .No pain today .

Along with the massage, did they actually alien your spine by popping the bones in your neck and further down the spine, with Chiropractic type moves?

Yes, Brian 1874, sure this is one and the same. I think I walked through the main body of the hospital and the building was at the rear, near the large lake. And, with or without popping bones, I'm pleased the pain has been relieved and you found the treatment good.

Hi Docta.Yes they popped my neck and spine.I should`ve written exactly the same as a Chiropractor.My Chiropractor in Edinburgh actually came to Thailand for 1 year "after" gaining his Chiropractors liscence to further perfect and hone his skills.He said all Chiropractors should do the same as he learnt more here than the training course back home.He retired at 65 last year after 30 years as a Chirpractor.

BKKSTAN One person only. "They".I was refering to her hands of course.
Ive been been visiting Chirpractors for a number of years,this place is very very good.Without me explaining my problem in great detail ,due to the language barrier she identified it .I have a spinal problem that can`t be corrected medically.She explained the problem to my wife on the phone afterwards,exactly as as it had been explained to me back in the UK by both medical and Chiropractor specialists over a number of years.
I think Masseuse and Chiropractor are lost in translation but thats only IMO.The ladies name is Daeng and she teaches masseuse/Chiropractor in BKK also.The place in Udon is where the Army/Air Force Top Notchers go for R&R.There are rooms and halls etc for functions.The masseuse/chiropractors is funded by the army/air-force and is only a small part of the place.If you do have to visit a chiropractor I would recomend it.

Hi guys,

I went to see, 'Daeng'', nice lady, and gave a soothing massage.
It had been posted she gives a massage/chiropractic treatment.
Possibly, because I didn't specify the added chiropractic aspect of the treatment, I didn't get it.
All the other ladies were working at the time, and I never heard one pop as one hears when the spine is aliened coming from any of the other treatments.

It's no big deal to me one way or the other, however, my experience at the location by the Army hospital didn't come close to a chiropractic adjustment, it was simply a massage.

For each his own, I guess.

From seeing the way Thai workers approach their work, the last thing I want is some street massage guy wrenchin' on my neck.

As I surely need chiropractic care from time to time, I will soon contact the American Chiropractic Assoc in search of a chiropractor who may be interested in semi retiring here in Udon.

If any one of us in need were put to the test, it just may be we could convince some chiropractor from one of our home countries to at least check us out here in Udon for a possible semi retirement scenario.

There's enough slingin' on this wonderful forum that at least one of us should be able to blue-sky just one chiropractor in the world to settle here.

No ladies, or jackrabbits on steroids sized chiropractors needed, only brutes that have the technical skills to do the job right.

Lets give it a shot, we might just be able to pull it off, sometime down the road.

If you don't ask, you'll never know.
