I agree now that Thai have re-introduced that mid afternoon flight. Anyone who booked a few months back and wanted an afternoon flight would have booked with Nok. Hence the transfer.thalenoi wrote:with Airasia 2 daily flights and Thai 3x no more need to commute between airports

Re: airport 2 airport
For anyone who wants to transfer between the two airports, the Van service that I previously mentioned, appears to be withdrawn.
On Sunday I used the bus outside Don Muang domestic terminal, which then went to the old International terminal, from there I transferred into a Van, which went to Swampy via the toll roads. Cost was 100baht, which i thought good value for me, suitcase and golf clubs.

Re: airport 2 airport
I fly United, because it is free with miles, but after two changes, it comes to BKK at around 11-00 PM, about 30 hours from my home. My lady meets me at the airport, we check into a hotel near her sister's place, rest for a couple of days, and then take a bus or a plane to Udon. This time, I would like to skip the stop-over in Bangkok, and go directly to Udon because I would have two large pieces of luggage. The earliest flight is AIR ASIA at 7-00am. What do I do? Sleep on the airport floor on my luggage? Find a cheap place to spend the night? Take a taxi to Udon, or what? The airport must have a "short time(!)" hotel? What will be the cost? Is there a left luggage place if I want to sleep outside of the airport?

Re: airport 2 airport
Ray, there is a hotel virtually adjoining the airport, (Suvarnabhumi), - the Novotel, see link below. I don't know the price. I'll leave it to others to update you on that. That would seem to be your best option, and take one of the early morning flights with Thai or Air Asia.
There are left luggage facilities at the airport, or take your luggage to the hotel.
See link for location and access details:-

I've never stayed in this hotel myself, but it's quite near Suvarnabhumi:

Otherwise the Novotel is close to the airport, but expensive....

That was very useful. I will leave my luggage at the airport, get picked up, rest up, and hope to get back without having to pay a ransom; they say on the website that they only provide one-way transprt. Thanks.

Ray,
I have stayed at the Queens Garden. It is a very basic, older hotel with no elevator, but has A/C and Thai style shower. Staff is very friendly and you can get free pickup at Swampy, but must pay for return trip. Did not eat there, but do not think that will be on your list of things to do with late arrival.

Here is another place close to Swampy: http://bangpli.com/sananwan.htm
I've stayed there a few times and it is good for an over nighter. 350-600 baht for A/C rooms, 200 baht for fan rooms.
Meter taxi to hotel and back to airport around 200-250 baht per trip or the hotel can pick you up for a little more.

Ray.Charles,
Two large pieces of luggage will be a problem with Thai Air Asia: you can purchase online max for 25kgs, think this adds 600? Baht to the ticket.
I flew in Swampy at 7.30 last month and booked a business fare with Thai Airways leaving Swampy 9.45, 3500 Baht, expensive but was winked through with 40kgs (2 bags) at check in. Nice rest in domestic business class lounge also, especially after 2x 6 hours flight from Europe via Middle East.
They serve a bit to eat on the plane also. NO need to pay for a breakfast at your hotel

25Kg limit in Air Asia would be a problem. By the way, the extra cost is B400. I would need to find out if I could take more by paying more,

I totally forgot that I once stayed at this small, nice, and clean hotel to catch an early morning flight out. A good value at B900.

Re: airport 2 airport
Galee I checked today as I returned through Swampy - the van service is apparently still operating. I saw the small desk right at the end of the terminal (outside the staff canteen), and there were several people working there.Galee wrote:For anyone who wants to transfer between the two airports, the Van service that I previously mentioned, appears to be withdrawn.

Although I didn't see any mini-buses when I checked - I was on Air Asia back to Udon, so didn't require the service to DM.

Thanks for that info Jack. Could be helpful on Monday. I can only assume that the desk has been moved at Don Muang?.
