The reality of Heroin
Re: The reality of Heroin
If addiction is an illness then it shuold be dealt with by medicos and not police.
If addicts are sick they should be treated and not jailed.
Far better for a doctor to administer heroin at about $50 a pop, than the addict burgle $500.
Part of the deal of being a "registered addict" would be the loss of some social priveliges (say driving) and also the requirement to attend some form of counselling.
It would cost about 1% of the current "drug war" budget to administer and treat addicts.
The number of heroin addicts is miniscule compared to the number of users, and that number is even smaller than the number of alcoholics.
Alcohol is by far the most destructive drug in society and by far the most costly in social terms.
Many police have a vested in interest in "drugs" - in so much as they can build a career "fighting" it.
If addicts can get clean heroin legally as a regisered addict, then there is not a lot for the drug busting police to do.
Switzerland "legalise" heroin - they are not stupid and good financial managers - for them it is about the most economical way of trating an "illness", not a crsade or "war on drugs".
Humans have sought "drugs" since the beginning of time and will continue to do so. "Authorities" could not, and can not stop alccohol, its about time they changed their thinking on heroin.
I think all alcohol should be prohibited because a minority of drinkers will be alcoholics - its a sill arguement when you think about - so its better to control it, rather than let criminals benefit from "prohibition".

Until 1970 or so all kinds drugs could be bought legally in Laos. Fortunately, I know of no one from the American Official community who was using drugs. These drugs were readily available in the morning market.
Eventually the Lao Government gave in to US pressure and outlawed all drugs with the exception of marijuana. Certified drug addicts could continue to get drugs from opium dens which were still open. Thank God these addicts suddenly cut off from their drugs

Addiction is an illness and doctor's wiil explain that you have an addictive personality, nicotine, alcohol, prescription drug's,narcotic's porn, sex, gambling.I read once that when a hobby or any activity that interfear's with your normal day to day life is a addiction,it could be anything.Yes addict's should recieve medical treatment but it is common practice by police force's around the world to hold street addict's until they start cold turkey and give up name's of dealer's,this is a inhumane practice carried out by self serving so called law enforcement.
Right so supervised dispenceing of narcotic's for addict's
Perscription drug's are supervised ,yet you have a hugh black market in valium, xanx, various types of seditive's,viagra which has killed both prescribed and unprescribed user's.
Do we put a free porn channel on for porn addict's,free brothel's for sex addict's andfree betting for gambler's.
Up to last may heroin, opium,ya ba and weed was still freely available in laos.
Supervised dispenceing,if only life was that simple .

we can't even get healthcare free or at least reasonably priced in the USA and your talking about giving street drugs free to addicts I am not with you on that one as a sober alcoholic is was my choice to drink no one held a gun in my back I knew long before I quit I had a problem with it but I continue to use it until I had enough so if you read my post above that were I stand on street drug users as for GRASS I believe it no worse than nicotine and should be LEGAL

It wouldn't even come close to "$50 a pop", more like a couple of dollars.steveway2 wrote:...

As I stated in a previous post, opiates, its derivatives, and synthetics, are some of the least expensive of all prescription medications.
To be fair. Ulick do you have any suggestions as to the solution to the problem? From reading your post's, it seems like you are in favor of more of the same? The same "solutions" that have failed for close to 100 years.
Re: The reality of Heroin
anzyron - tend to agree about grass - but cooncern is ensuring it does not get minors
Re: The reality of Heroin

Re: The reality of Heroin
Illegal drug use is a crime and the users are criminals and should be treated and punished as such.
Until such time as the laws change.

But grown people can make decisions for themselves. If the benefits outweigh the risk -- up to you.
