ichycoo park gets its status by being the first ever piece of music to be played on Radio 1.

I agree with what you are saying though saint - disk 3 could then be rightly used as a coaster....

Well, in that case you need some Brian Jones era Rolling Stones, the Beatles, the Yardbirds, Marianne Faithfull, Freddy Boom-Boom Cannon, the Moody Blues, Procul Harem, Van Morrison, the Who, that Fogarty guy (forgot the name of the group [that Lipitor is killing my memory]), Grace Slick, the Doors, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Elvis again, and so on.

Credence Clearwater Revival is the name of the group

Not quite right Bob, this is one that I got wrong for years even though I listened to its start!

Like most people I forgot the theme music played firstly for Radio One and secondly for Tony Blackburn both of which preceded the first record to be played as such which was actually "Flowers in the Rain" by The Move (the kind of minutiae you get in pub quizzes). The Move "transitioned" during the 70's into the Electric Light Orchestra (ELO).

The first track played was in fact Johnny Dankworth's Beefeaters, which Tony Blackburn used as his theme tune for Daily Disc Delivery. And before that, listeners heard the specially commissioned Theme One by George Martin.

now , that would be a C D i would bye !!! incidently , how can any compilation of british music from the 60s and 70s not include , the who , kinks , merseybeats , swinging blue jeans , jerry and his pacemaker , hermans hemeroids , and of course the creme de la creme the evergreen rolling stones , whom i personaly think were the greatest rock band of all time , with 19th nervous breakdown , there greatest ever track . just the opinion of an oldie who obviously had a grand old time in his teenage years , love and peace people !!!!!!

add to that sex and drugs and rock and roll , and youve got yourself a real party . :-" :-" :-"

Marianne Faithfull.

Saint, I agree, all good British bands that should be included on a 60's compilation. If you find one let me know, but I don't think it will ever happen. The producers of these CD's want to appeal to as wider audience as possible, hence you get the wide variation of artists.

Compilation CD's are great but as said they are aimed at the widest possible market.
I just got an 80's one which has 186 tracks, mostly the extended 12" remixes and there are some classic's on there. New Order, Depeche Mode, Simple Minds and the like.
Then you have the quirky ones you forgot about such as Falco, Men Without Hats etc.
Then the total dross like Samantha Fox

But a good choice all in all.

these are as vlad said all very personal to me . no stones in there simply because far to many greats to pick from . could pick 20 stones songs and still not decide what to include .
