What's it like to live in Udonthani?

I will also be coming to Udon Thani in March 2010 with plans to settle down there for my retirement. I have been in e-mail contact with a Thai lady who lives in a village west of there and it is my plan to visit her in March and if we get along in person as well as we have over the internet to hook up with her and rent a house in Udon. I will not be needed a job but I am interested in taking classes to learn how to read and write Thai. Do any of you have any suggestions about classes or rental houses for this soon to be expat newbee farang?

Yes, there is a wonderful university in Udon called "Waterbuffalo University", Its really expensive, but well worth the money for what you will learn there.

Thanks for the information on WBU. If I'm not mistaking, I think I may have taken a class or two at the Bangkok campus back in 1968 while I was on R&R. I was such a good student, that I was able to graduate with my BS degree after only two lessons.

I bet the curriculum has gotten more difficult and refined since then. A couple years ago I took Still a Virgin 101 and Brother got broken leg in car wreck 203. I paid my tuition and then dropped out.
