Unfortunately strine is not really spoken by most young Australians. We have been swamped by the mcDonald's culture via TV. I think it is a shame.
If you can get hold of any Barry Humphries CDs or perhaps even read the old comic strip "The Adventures of Barry McKenzie", you will go a long way to understanding the Oz culture that is bquickly being eroded.

There was a really hilarious show from Australia shown on Canadian tv during the Sydney Olympics called, The Games.

It was very well written and acted. I taped a few of the episodes.

Does anyone remember this show from Australia? Funny stuff.

Tilokarat

The programme on the 100 m sprint being reduced to 94.87 meters or whatever, was so funny, had to do it to get the sponsors seats in etc....

John Clark was 1 of the guys who penned it ?? and appeared in it , as the Sir Humphrey ,

Brilliant series, never to be forgotton.

Australia is great, cheap petrol, cheap steaks, lots of sunshine and everyone speaks (sort of) english

All you have to do is to get used to unwashed, backward, racist, bigoted people who like to take the piss out of everything, except themselves and their country....oh, and the GOD AWFUL tv...which never changes... and always sucks

ive been here nearly 20 years... on and off... and its redneck city arizona.. EVERYWHERE you go, even in the big cities...

I love it here though

Obviously we ended up with some cheap migrants too :D

20 years ago - that would probably put you right at the tail end of the 10 pound migrants. Just 200 years after the first wave of your relatives arrived

I would agree there is no shortage of racists or bigots in Oz, but like many countries, the number and extent usually depends on who you are mixing with.

I wouldn't agree that most Australians would love to have a white Australia.

Id check out 2UE or 2GB a bit more mate and listen to the masses.... i see it everywhere, on the TV, in the papers, in the streets and even.. yes even with people i know.. but not to as much of a degree that i see it in the general population ....

I honsetly dont think you can see it if you are born and bred here... cos you were born and bred here.. does that make sense???

And Wazza, just cos a city has lots of races, does not change the fact that the predominant race is a bit racist.. does it???

Like i said i LOVE australia.. and only calling it how i see it

Goonersh

I wouldn't call 2UE and 2GB reliable stations, they do attract the red necks for sure, and people like Laws . Jones etc thru the bait every day at them. Thats also about ratings and advertising = revenue. Dont let the truth get in in the way of a good story. But does the western suburbs represent a cross section of the Australian population ? I think not.

Yes the Bondi riots were nasty and attracted a certain element of racism, etc

Aust is now over 50% migrants etc, inc 1st generation families etc,

I suppose the 5 weeks I spent in the UK in Feb, I also saw some ultra right comments in the media, press etc, doesnt mean to say that the majority of citizens in the UK are racist.

Most developed countries of the world have in the last 50 years seen a population change, with liberal immigration polices that have allowed a greater influx of immigrants into their countries.

Hmm, yes - women. Now I know a bit about Aussie girls.

Back in the days of convict transportation, most naturalised Australians would have looked like this.

But thank the Lord, Aussie women are now more fetching.

The first one is the great Les Dawsons Mother...

And the second one i am not a fan of i must say....same same stuff over many hundreds of years, not into cross dressing performers, don't mind a one off but it's been dragging on for toooo long, sorry to upset our Oz members i know you all love her dearly.....and not a patch on Kath + Kim.
