Thats a long time for an Issan Girl not to go back home, does she not like it..?
I dont think its her mate.... shes a singer not really suited to the fields... it seems other members of her family dont go home very often either.... I could tell she did not"fit in" when i was there... like a diamond in a sea of cubit zirconia.... (nice cubits i might add)

best explanation i can give ATM

She's a singer, not suited to the fields? She's a singer that does'nt like men looking at her,I think columbo would have problem's with this one, fasanating story though.

Whats singing got to do with men lechering all over you because you are cute...

Are you saying every girl that can sing should enjoy being chatted up and perved at 24 hours a day???

Is it a pre requisite of being a female singer that you have to enjoy being pestered by blokes???

Im pretty sure you can be a good singer and not want perverts coming onto you, but maybe i am wrong.... and singers out there wanna give their views?

I actually think that, from whative been told by others on how good her voice is, and how she looks she could do the whole recording thing....but you only have to look as Susan Boyle to see great singers often go through life singing karaoke and getting nowhere.... and i dont think id cut it as a thai promoter/producer/manager

You mean people who make silly one liners??? cos i think it is actully two a minute...

Why would people who dont know me hear her do a karaoke song and her say she has a fantastic voice when she has not... are they in on some big plan to fleece the aussie farang of money he does not have??? Did she have secret meetings with them before the song???

I suppose when i offered her money in samui, and she turned it down, and when i actually said to her i had no money she thought... "well ill stick with him because maybe one day he WILL have money and then i can take it....and she did all that whilst ignoring all the other men chucking money at her...

Brilliant plan hey?.. feindishly clever in its brilliance.... stay with the guy who has no cash and ignore all the ones with cash.....its gonna make her a rich girl and her family will never want again

Goonersh. This is not a comment on your girl at all but I think you need to understand about the singers in the Thai style places. I have several male Thai friends that enjoy taking me to these places so I have seen first hand the set up. Yes the girl has to be soui mak to get a job there. Able to sing of course , but this appears to be secondary to her appearance. Maybe thats just my bias because the Thai guys seem to be quite enthusiastic. The girls are paid normally 6,000bht a month basic. They earn extra money on top by flirting with the customers, who in turn buy them garlands to hang round their neck. These cost 100bht each, of which the singer gets 50%. It is no exaggeration to say I have seen the girls given so many, they disappear under them. After they leave the stage they are expected to join the men at the table, where they will eat and drink with them and basically flirt. They get a further 50 bht for every drink they get.
Then its back on the stage for the next show. This goes on till late, after midnight. The girls in most places do not have to go off with the client but many do. At a,price, normally 5,000bht. They never go all night, normally 2 hrs max. Most of the guys are married and have to get home to their wives. Some establishments have short time rooms available. Now I am not saying all the singers go out. I myself have been refused at times, but that may be because I balk at the price. It is normal for the girls to swap establishments each night. Presumably to get more customers who wouldn't know she has already been out in the last place. They are expected to wear a cocktail style revealing dress which the place provides but the cost is deducted from her earnings.
I am not suggesting your lady works in this manner but I think you should be aware of all possible circumstances.

It was I believe what trubrit would call a "heads up". Note he says it is not a requirement of the job for the singers to go off with the clients, but that some do. Much the same can be said of some of the girls who work in the bars in Udon. Some places the girls would have no interest in going off with a customer, other girls will....
Realistically I would say it depends on the girl, the customer & the money on offer....

Goonersh,Well I Did'nt think you could be so naive, having already been here,Of course this is how the singers make a living,Otherwise how far do you think 6,000 baht a month would go in Bangkok,by the time they pay rent for room, food, transport to & from work, make up & then have to send money home to Mama & Papa.....Just do the maths for yourself,Yes unfortunately SEX is all part & parcel of a Thai girls life ( Unless She has a sponsor or three on the go ) Sorry for the bad news, mate !!

That is a little harsh 747...
The girl sings in 3 bars - so that is 18K a month. Could double that (if an excellent flirt & the bars get a good turnover of customers) on drinks & flowers, without being involved in going off with customers for sex. It is possible to live cheap in BKK as well, apartment she would probably not be paying more than 1,000 a month as no doubt would be sharing....
It is a "red flag" (as others have said) not a "red card" offence.... :D
