dates needed for the Naga Fireball of Nong Khai.

Post by poolshark » July 19, 2009, 12:37 am

anyone know the exact dates for the fireball experience this year?
is it worth seeing what all the fuss is about?
seems like an underwater firework display to me,
but yet my wife swears it's a dragon fly for sure.
any members gone to see it before?

i dont fancy the traffic jams at nong khai and wonder can it be seen in sri chiang mai,(about ten minutes drive from tabo) on the mekong river.

any input would help.

used to have a list of best viewing place, and nong khai municipality isn't one of them. phon phi sai is one, and bueng kan is another, but there is a list of about 5 locations. misplaced somewhere. sure more info will come out shortly before the event. 8)

I can't give you the dates for this year Poolshark as the missus is :sleepy: but I can give you my opinion.
I have visited a place just east of Phon Phisai on four occasions with a total viewing time of approximately 30 hours and witnessed maybe 3 fireballs. I say fireballs, they are more like blue golf ball sized lights that last for about 2/3 seconds.
Phon Phisai is apparently one of the best places to view them!
Traffic is a nightmare there and back.

The wife and the family love it though so who am I to rain on their parade and will therefore almost certainly be there again this year unless I can think up a mysterious illness for the day

Yes, traffic horrible. Drove from Nongbualamphu once, got as far as Nong Khai making for Phisai- and gave up! Just not fun.

Incidentally, whilst staying in a Nong Khai hotel once, net a Canadian? guy who was attempting to carry out a proper investigation into whether the fireballs were a genuine phenomenon or not. Heard him on the 'phone to a university professor and the like. I wonder the result of his investigation. I remain sceptical that it can be a a natural thing. :-k

Well, I'm not certain either way. But could it be the owners of restaurants, shops, accommodation and anyone for whom it's a source of income be those MOST offended?
Was that a flash of lightning? 8-[

When I read the title of the thread my first thought was, gees you're in Thailand so getting a "date" should be no problem.
